Why do the vice presidential candidates always seem to have their shit together more than the presidential candidates? Same thing in 2000.
Not that I'm voting for this year's republicrat candidate (so to speak).

I heard and chuckled. But I did not criticise Bush for doing as much (although everyone else did) - such lignuistic errors when a topic is in the forefront of the mind is common. I often make such errors myself (those resulting in immediate self-correction) and it is not inhuman or "stupid."

I think they're both doing pretty well. However, Edwards is scoring big for me, just because of how freakin' adorable he is. I just wanna pinch those cheeks.

The trial lawyer vs. the war profiteer.
VP Cheney's big scripted zinger was ill timed and really went over like a lead balloon, the part where he said,
"The reason they keep trying to attack Halliburton is because they want to obscure their own record. And Senator, frankly, you have a record in the Senate that’s not very distinguished. You’ve missed 33 out of 36 meetings of the Judiciary Committee, almost 70 percent of the meetings of the Intelligence Committee. You’ve missed a lot of key votes on tax policy, on energy, on Medicare reform. Your hometown newspaper has taken to calling you Senator Gone. You’ve got one of the worst attendance records in the United States Senate.
Now, in my capacity as Vice President, I am the president of the Senate and the presiding officer. I’m up in the Senate most Tuesdays when they’re in session. The first time I ever met you was when you walked on the stage tonight."
Then Senator Edwards shot back with, " That was a complete distortion of my record. I know that won’t come as a shock. The vice president, I’m surprised to hear him talk about records. When he was one of 435 members of the United States House, he was one of 10 to vote against Head Start, one of four to vote against banning plastic weapons that can pass through metal detectors. He voted against the Department of Education. He voted against funding for Meals on Wheels for seniors. He voted against a holiday for Martin Luther King. He voted against a resolution calling for the release of Nelson Mandela in South Africa. It’s amazing to hear him criticizing either my record or John Kerry’s."
Odd part is the question was about Israeli-Palestinian conflict. I think Cheney felt he had to try and ruffle Edwards feathers with this remark. It was a failure as most Beasties fans know, lame. Edwards sent him packing.
fact check Voting Records
Mr. Cheney said correctly that Mr. Edwards had missed most votes in the Senate this year, as well as many committee meetings. Candidates for president and vice president generally skip all but the most important votes because they are on the campaign trail.
Mr. Cheney said that Mr. Edwards had been absent so often that he had never even met him before last night. Mr. Edwards said later last night that he and Mr. Cheney had in fact met twice before, at a prayer breakfast in 2001 and at the swearing-in last year of Senator Elizabeth Dole of North Carolina.
Mr. Edwards was correct in saying that Mr. Cheney, as a member of the House, had voted against such measures as the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, Head Start and creation of the Department of Education.

Key exchange right there. I believe Edwards came out on top of this one. Cheney appeared a little unnerved by Edwards who was as charming as a prince of yore. Cheney even seemed genuinely touched by Edwards' reaching out to him about his daughter.
Key thing for me as a father of 2 beautiful young girls and married to a most voluptious wife was health care. When Edwards said "you know what I'm talking about out there" I knew exactly what he was getting at. Health care costs have skyrocketed over the last 4 years. Cheney had little to no response on this issue, only some crap about senior prescription drug plans. BOOOOOOOOOOOO is what I say to that. Edwards was right, they are in the pockets of the insurance and drug companies.

"To you,Senator Edwards.....and remember, don't mention your canidate by name...."
Edwards: So, Me and John Kerry...Doh!....O.K., Me and Senator Kerry...Doh!
"Aww, shucks, did I break the rules again?.... ;) lol
What a Brownie-hound! :D
That was funny...

Commenting the debate, the BBC's Washington correspondent just called Cheney the "designated driver" of the Bush administration. Thought that that was an interesting choice of words.

I don't know if I can respond to all that in 30 seconds.
TOO BAD CAUSE 30 SECONDS IS ALL YOU GOT MR. BURNS!
I also liked it when our pal Dick said "You probably weren't there to vote for that one"
Ha Ha Is this you posting, or have you invited the whole trailerpark back to your crib to do a bit of trollin'?

yeah, haha...
i laughed hard at that.
i also liked how when speaking of gay/lesbian marriage that cheney doesn't support the presidents stand on that...and though its just one issue, a leader with two heads, two views is not going to get anywhere.....
p.s. i didn't know that cheney's daughter was gay...i thought it interesting that edwards brought that into my public view...it changes things a lot on how i look at cheney *(not negatively) but its interesting that he (cheney) supports a candidate (((((bush))))) that is so anti-homosexual, yet he himself is not...its almost hypocritical...and thats why edwards brought it up.
i think edwards is a little sneaky, but not weasley...and im pretty confident in my vote for him.

oh and the israel/palestine question that cheney answered without even mentioning israel or palestine...and the question lady tried to say edwards didn't mention it, but he did...and cheney didn't .
funny how their answers are like the threads on this board, starting out on one defined subject, then traveling down a road that leads them to a subject completely unrelated to the original question.
"i know you asked about palestine/israel, but lets talk about edwards' attendance record"
what??

It's pathetic that people are trying to spin this into an Edwards win. Cheney clearly won the debate hands down.

Maybe its my imagination, but a lot of pro-Bush people tend to use "won hands down" a lot when describing the debates. There were two people who wrote letters to the Times the other day that used the same phrase.
Hands down.

Well, even though Bush lost "hands down" the other night, these same pundits were saying it was a draw. This VP debate was pretty much the draw of the debates with an edge going to Edwards for SUBSTANCE. All Cheney did was attack the records of Edwards/Kerry. While Cheney was very convincing in his arguments there was no substance to it.

Absolutely not. Cheney won. HANDS DOWN.
It's funny how when Bush makes the "Sadaam/Osama" mistake he's a "bumbling idiot," but when Edwards does it, it's acceptable.
Also, why can't Edwards follow a simple rule of not mentioning Kerry by name? TWICE WITHIN 2 MINUTES??!!! If Bush made that mistake you fuckos would've jumped all over it.
Edwards' little nervous fake laugh thing every time he fucked up was annoying as hell.
KERRY & EDWARDS ARE A JOKE!

Edwards is a Senator who is running for Vice President. Bush has been the president for four years and still doesn't know who he is attacking and its not the only time he's mixed the two around. And his administration seem to get Osama and Saddam confussed. Often during policy making.
Yea, Edwards slipped and said Kerry twice. Pfffttt, who wants a person like that in office.

Absolutely not. Cheney won. HANDS DOWN.
Cheney managed to actually look and sound more intelligent that Bush. That is a win for the Republican party. Cheney also served in the Nixon White House, was chief of staff to President Ford, Secretary of Defense under George H. Bush and he also is a former six-term congressman from Wyoming. He and Bush (W.) are in sync completely. Cheney has amassed a solid conservative voting record over the past 3 decades. Dick is 63 years of age.
John Edwards was trial lawyer, 1977-1998, then elected office: U.S. senator, elected 1998, he is 51 years of age.
With all of the experience and resume VP Cheney brings to this debate, I found Edwards to be more concerned for Americans than Cheney. On all issues including the war on terror. A heartbeat away. Cheney comes off as a bully 24/7 365, except this 90 minute break, where he appears cordial. He was on the attack the minute he walked off stage.
Here is a NYTimes editorial link I thought summed up the evening quite well, especially this part,
"During the final summation in last night's vice-presidential debate, John Edwards focused on the new Kerry campaign theme: that a vote for George Bush and Dick Cheney would mean "four more years of the same." And Mr. Cheney, when his turn came, said it was important to re-elect the president so he could keep doing what he has been doing. It was a rare moment of agreement."

Actually the joke is Bush saying" He forgot about Poland" when in fact Poland wasn't in the initial force. This is incompetence. Edwards wasn't at all incompetent.
Look, it comes down to who is most qualified to lead this country. The choice is obvious.

Stupid but priceless.

Not particularly too difficult. <-- Look I just sounded more intelligent than Bush.
And as for edb... just another troll, with whom I will not waste my time on, since he hasn't wasted his reading enough into it.

The fact that he voted like that; is that supposed to be a bad thing?
Don't answer this, please.
