So I've got my Chicago floor tix and plan on getting there really early so I can get as close to the stage as possible. My question for you BB live vets is this: Is the vibe up front more "dancey" or "moshy"?

I guess I've had one-too-many-combat-boots-in-the-face in my day to enjoy a more turbulent atmosphere...

From what I've seen, you'll definitely get squished, and it is possible you'll have to put up with some real jerks. However, said jerks seemed to get tossed in short order and Talib and the Boys have both taken time out to tell the audience to back up and take it easy at the two shows I've seen so far. So, you won't have a lot of space, and it might not be entirely pleasant, but they make good effort to take care of your well-being.

I saw them in 94 at WUST in DC. I got some serious injury to my shoulder from being "squashed" into the metal barriers. I still have problems with it every couple of months, 10 years later.

I haven't been to any of the recent shows but if the crowd is the same as it was 8 years ago, it won't be an easy time.

My wife and I plan on hitting the floor and seeing how it goes. She'll stick close to me and I hope to take care of her. But if it gets too hairy, we'll back off...and I'll probably head back in.

Well, I went to see them in 98 in San Antonio, my best friend and I were up at the bars clinging on for dear life (both female). The worst part was during the opening act of Rancid, (where we were spit on by the lead singer and completly squashed against the railings). I guess adrenaline got us through the Beasties, I remember getting squished but I don't remember it being so bad it was unbearable. However, the next day my entire stomach and ribs had black and blue marks all over them.
Now 6 years later, I'm probably too old to be on the floor but I'm going to give it another shot at the United Center, I can always move out of the way if I can't handle it. The key is to hold on to those rails, no matter what! The vibe varies from dancey to moshy. :)
See ya on the floor in Chicago!

The 2 times I've seen the Boys the floor has been a dangerous place. At both Centrum shows all the fans in the seat rushed the floor. At the show in 1998 the Boys kept yelling at the crowd to stop being so rough. Glad I have a seat...want to enjoy the show and not get trampled!!

Thanks for the heads-up, everyone. Guess I'll proceed to the front with extreme caution. Damn you boys and your testosterone...

it can be dangerous..true indeed. the floor is packed to begin with when the show starts and then you have all those who rush the floor. but so far its all good......... i also opted for a seat this time around.

People like yourself ruin concerts. Nothing personal. But being a fan of some punk-type and alternative bands and going to their shows can be ruined by annoying people moshing or crowd surfing. I mean I'd love to just enjoy the show and not have to look behind me every 10 seconds to watch for someone who's gonna land on my head. Can't you people just enjoy the music and dance in your own space?

In Stockholm ('95) I dropped my glasses, but found them between the barrier! They were crushed tho'. When I met Yauch at a club after the gig he was worried if I was alright and he was ever so nice, took off his woolly hat when I came over! Such a gentleman. In Manchester '95 (http://img78.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img78&image=AladdinSane.jpg) I was at the front by the barrier and the security had to fish me up halfway. I saw Yauch signaling someone to check that I was alright.

Nope. The boys make it a point these days to make sure the ladies in the pit are taken care of. I bet moshing will be prohibited. So if catch a bad one wants to do his shit, he'll either be escorted out, get his ass beat, or both.

The Beasties have really tried to discourage moshing and pits since the quadrophonic tour in 95. They actually had a barricade come out from the middle of the stage to try and "split" the floor in two a little. They also had a tourzine they handed out discussing do's and don'ts

But as Blue Nun said hopefully the situations will be taken care of quickly. I'm too old for that moshing shit but i'll be on the floor at the United Center too!
