For those who really care and want things to change for the better in Tibet,
let's come up with suggestions.
I for one, would like to see the remaining Beastie Boys shows raising awareness again for Tibet. Students for a Free Tibet should have a booth at every show with information.
If the Berlin wall could come down and Apartheid could end, then I am sure that great things can happen if we all use our minds. Tibet is being over run with Han Chinese. The young ones/new generation are losing their identity.
Cigarettes and alcohol are dirt cheap. Supplied by the Chinese of course. They are losing their culture rapidly. We either care or we don't.

I totally agree that having a Students for a Free Tibet booth at every show would make an impact.
I would also like to see more coverage of Tibet's plight in the press. When the Dalai Lama went to Mexico last week or so, there was no coverage in my local (Dallas) newspaper about it. The Chinese government completely overstepped its bounds and asked that Mexico not let him enter the country or address its lawmakers.
I have found that just by bringing up the subject of Tibet with fellow students I make others aware of China's brutality. Most of my classmates think that the Cold War is over so China must be OK with the rest of the world. These guys have no idea! It is our job to do what mass media will not, to spread the word and force people, young and old, to acknowledge the atrocities taking place in Tibet.
I made my own "Free Tibet" T-shirts too.

i totally agree. for some reason, most people aren't aware of how bad the situation is in Tibet. The Chinese out number the Tibetans by about 100 to 1. It's a shame that most of the Tibetans have to start a new life when their country is not accessible because of a much larger country who aren't happy with how much land they own, and want to take everyone elses. I think people who have such a high status as the Beastie Boys can help by informing the younger generation who may not be aware of it because it happened "before their time".
i have a friend who just got back from Tibet building walls for schools, I think money much better spent than having a 9 month backpacking holiday around Europe getting hammered. :)

Is this really about free Tibet or to get the forum more popular?
If it is for making this forum popular then I'll help because thats as close as I can get on freeing Tibet and I would really wish that I could do something to free them other than post.
If this is all about freeing Tibet would've you think that this forum would get more negotiating around here like every week or month.
So if you are serious and be willing to do something about this Tibet problem
please give this message board something to come up with to help.
We all can do it if we try.

Wow. I think that's great. I feel I can't help or do much considering my age and where I live. I hope one day I can do something to make even a small impact to help these people's lives.

It would make only great sense that the Beastie Boys libido... for lack of better word... get more attention than it seems here on the board or anywhere for that matter.... in regards to..... everything. You can only get the word out so much before talking seems futile from the get go. Not to dampen spirits here, but there's so many avenues of opportunity, but it takes capitol of course to implement. The world doesn't play on bigger terms per se when you get higher in the world of finance... it just seems bereft of trust and love of one another compared to the money. It can all be done in benefit... and reap bigger rewards if conclusions were met with the proper solutions. Your testaments here are certainly appreciated in my eyes, and I can only offer ideas. I don't have the whole history and fact sheet to the exact politics and current details of China's unjust annex of Tibet, but know all I need in in certain regards... as to what governments, corporations, people in the private sectors have thought of, I am not privy, but that the results do not exist wholy. Time is what we don't have and yet it seems to consume everything with nothing meaningful and that indeed matters... I won't stop there. For a temporary answer, has anyone.. given an offer to the Chinese government to buy Tibet back? No, that's wrong. China needs a wake up. Hell this country needs a wake up. I swear, doesn't it make sense that a tremendously organized call to action in America take place with all in affinity, which this polarized country shouldn't have too much trouble with, over rule our government impeaching Bush with indictments galore?!! And replaced with real mandates... you know, an overhaul. How overt and deep must this injustice be. The people gotta put their root down again. 'Tis the season already. We can do this. It's the only thing and we must get it done! We as a world are so far behind due to this wrought course, we'll never make par with truth and justice or ourselves if we don't. If everyone knows, then there must be White House sleepers imbedded everywhere, and no one's minding the hellish hang up really. Where has moveon gotten anyway in the real timing of things. Good for them, BUT... It's gonna take legalese and distilled effort by all those in affinity for simply what's right. I keep it in sight, and the Beasties do too I believe... Something real has got to give it up. Well, this will go about as far as... hell, I don't know. I do know what is what and then what down to my own being and reasons, and they've been through more than nescessary to know...

For anyone interested check out the Tibetan Aid Project, http://www.tibetanaidproject.org. A non-profit organization that raises money to preserve Tibetan culture and provide sacred texts to refuges. You can help support the cause by attending fundraising events in the Bay Area, donating, or buying prayer flags, etc. from their gift store.

I think the problem is, that most think it's too late to do anything. And those with free tibet stickers etc are seen to be just 'trying to be cool' and shift their focus elsewhere.
Hopefully with the Olympics in China soon it will become back into the sopt light.
Another thing would be that those who active against it in their early 20's grew up, got a girlfriend or boyfriend, got pregnant, got a mortgage and the focus shifts else where.
I'm starting a business at the moment on selling ethical goods and 15% of the annual profits will go to charity, given once a year in April. At the moment it's Amnesty International and when my website is up and running, I'm going to be asking for suggestions on a new charity and then a poll. So the next lot of funds that anyones charity, after AI will be given is April 2007 (as April 2006 is to A.I.). Also when I say charity, it doesn't have the a registered charity, it could be an organisation. So anyway, if anyone wants to suggest anything then email me adam@gethical.com with what it is all about and the information and a link. And it'll be made available as a vote, and I'll let you know when the poll would be up to vote. I know all this seems far in the future but I know this night not be looked at much.
I have no other suggestions though so maybe I should't be in this thread. I'm just pointing out what might of happened to the support/pressure and that only help people like me can give in monatary which is not very often publiced how it directly helps.

No one is going to tell the Chinese what to do. sure human rights will be mentioned as a topic at various meetings, but fuck that, China does what it wants. Countries around the world recognise the value of the Chinese marketplace and suck their dick accordingly.
sorry to sound pessimistic but I see this issue as a lost cause.

Brandon.... how the hell is what you said different from just saying "free tibet"? Seriously, what exactly is everyone going to do after we are "aware"? Sit around and post about it on message boards? The real problem is that no one is willing to get their hands dirty.

I feel that buddhadharma's following suggestion is insightful:
We must learn to cultivate unconditional compassion for all beings. If all of us do this it will spread like a wildfire. If you don't believe me then try it for yourself. Tomorrow find 5 strangers and pay them a sincere compliment. When you are done, look at their faces and look within your heart and see how you feel.
