A while ago I contacted the publisher to ask specifically if the book was a new publication or the same booklet published with the original CD and vinyl anthology sets. Somehow I never got the answer to that question, but I did learn that the book's publication date has been pushed back. Powerhouse says the book should be available in November.
The anthology book appears to be the same publication as the anthology booklet. The publisher has posted two pages' worth of photos from the book at its web site (page 1 (http://www.powerhousebooks.com/titles/insidebeastieboys.html), page 2 (http://www.powerhousebooks.com/titles/insidebeastieboys2.html)). I'm fairly certain that all of those photos were published in the original booklet, so I'm guessing it's the same publication. That said, it doesn't make sense for a book that is basically a reprint in new clothes to have its publication date changed several times. So maybe the book is different?
I suppose I could contact the publisher again and press them for an answer. I had the impression the first time I asked the question that they didn't know the answer; that is, they weren't familiar with the original booklet.

Thanks M,
Maybe it is different, because pushing the dates back says to me that they are updating it, maybe it include this album and some new photos?? Guess we will have to see.

i wish someone would write a book about the creation of PB, just like they've done books with The Beach Boys "Pet Sounds" and "Led Zeppelin IV".

What in god's name is PB? I'm sorry maybe I'm too young or something. Dont mean to sound like and idiot. Just someone fill me in. Thanks

Another thing that made me think it might be a new, or at least updated, publication is a comment that I read in a recent review of the book. The review credited Yauch with the art direction of the book. I don't recall any such credit for him in the booklet.
Yauch needs to get on the board and clarify the matter. :D
Hey, Yauch! Book: new or old?

ok, i see that this is a little confusing. there are now 3 versions of this thing. the CD version that came out first, then the LP box set version with the book came out, and now i guess this one is like a hybrid.
it's the same as the book that is in the LP box set thingy, except it is a little smaller. the new book is like 11x11 instead of 12x12. and it has the CDs in the back of the book.
the layout of the book is a little different from the original CD booklet. but when i say a little i mean a little. they are almost the same... and again it should be almost identical to the book in the LP version.

In the LP version of the book is an introduction page written by Yauch where he tells about compiling the cd and the booklet.

So the LP box set thingy will also include the CDs?!? Very nice.
Yauch, do you know what the release date is for this? And do you know the tentative release date on the DVD and what's going to be included on it?

not exactly. you could think of it like the book from the LP box set with the CDs. but it doesn't have the records or the record sleeves or the slip case... it's just the book with the CDs in the back.
do you know what the release date is for this?
not sure of the release date, but it must be soon. it's being done by powerhouse. wait, hold the phone, i will check the world wide ether web;
http://www.powerhousebooks.com/index.html
they don't say when it is coming out.
And do you know the tentative release date on the DVD and what's going to be included on it?
not sure about the DVD. maybe some time next year.

I am still confused, so this new thing is the same music but a slightly different book than what I already have (with the Sound of Science CDs)? I believe that I can count on one of you to buy the new one and report back before I have to decide?
BTW -- I saw the vinyl LPs listed as back ordered/ not available and listed at around $130 when I was looking for something else a few weeks ago.

Who owns the vinyl box set? I don't. That sucker is hard to find. I never see it on eBay.
Here's (http://www.beastiemania.com/registry/) some of us that owns it.

It's still for sale if you search around on internet.
I got my copy 1,5 years ago from a Canadian store.

Every time I've seen it on eBay they wouldn't mail it to Europe (propably high postage or customs reasons, but those would be recipients problems) and the start price has been like $100. In the beginning of this week I found one with a starting price at $50 and when checking further it turned out to be my local record and cd-exchange here in Stockholm! I went to the store to enquire about it and they told me it was on their mailorder side. They brought it to the store and yesterday I could buy it for $70! I haven't been so happy for ages! It is my baby now! It was still in it's original seal and my # is 1982.
They still have another copy for sale on eBay, but I'll warn ya, it weighs an awful lot so the postage is gonna be dear!
Looks like there's several of them on eBay right now!
One in Canada (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=306&item=4049113902&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW) and one in Stockholm (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=306&item=4049023206&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW) and one for really low start price in the US. Thanks for the clarification.
So I guess that means we should take the booklet that came with the CD set and use it to prop up an uneven table and buy the new book for our libraries and coffee tables. :D

I bought it sealed for $90 Canadian (which would be even less in American money) this past August from a music/electronics chain in western Canada called A&B Sound. They had Paul's Boutique as well for $15 about a year ago (most likely a reprint) but at the time I didn't have a turntable (my dad gave his old one away, I ended up buying one used for myself).

I ordered mine directly from powerhouse books. A co-worker of mine is on their mailing list and told me about this book ages ago knowing I would dork out over it. Yeah, now I got it and I'm dorkin alright! (y)

There were two different vinyl box sets on E-Bay this past week. There is one there for the next 12 hours with no takers (going for over $90 new). I think the last one went unsold with and asking price of $125.
There are all kinds of new ones for sale all over the internet at various prices.
