Your city sucks! My friend and I met NicRN77 before the show at one of only three understaffed bars within walking distance of the Centrum. Thinking we could get a bite to eat we found only one place that actually serves food and the wait was an hour long. You have a concert venue that holds up to 14,000 people and only one fucking restaurant?!!!!! Towards the end of the show I overheard two girls conversing about the possibility of an after party. After party?! There's no place for a before party. Three bars, J.J. Juggs which had a guy bartending with Romy and Michelle as his clueless sidekicks, and two other places which names I've forgotten but one place resembled "Moe's Tavern". Either way neither of the places are worthy of patronizing.
As for the concert hall itself? Think of the old Foxboro stadium with it's lack of rest rooms and beer lines long enough to miss an entire set of music. That's the Worcester Centrum. Back in the day when modernized venues like the Tweeter Center, Fleet Center and Gillette Stadium didn't exist, the Centrum is what we settled for. The hour and fifteen minute drive to the asshole of Massachusettes didn't seem to long back then. Of course, there was more open in terms of commerce back then too. Now, even the Outlet Mall is deserted. Bums won't hang out downtown anymore because there's no one to beg to!
Getting back onto 290W was a nightmare too. We headed back to the direction we came off the HWY only to find the there was a detour. This particular detour swings you about five miles through the most dangerous, crack infested part of the city. Whenever you see a pair of sneakers dangling from a phone line, you're in a BAD place. If every other store you see says "Checks Cashed Here" you are in a BAD place. If the only people you see are standing around a barrell fire on the sidewalk....well, you get the point. Worcester has officially leapedfroged Lowell as the second worst city in Massachusettes. Springfield is No. 1 on that list.

By the way, the show was cool!

My thoughts exactly......DITTO!

sad thing is, we all knew this prior to the show.

memo to Beasties.......Worcesters a dump, and the arena had to make you feel like a freakin high school talent show...Fleet Pavilion next time please.

"Whenever you see a pair of sneakers dangling from a phone line, you're in a BAD place." -halarious.

thanks for visiting. You should have asked first, I or anyone else from Worcester could have named you at least 10 bars in walking distance from the centrum. And Shrewsbury St about 1/2 mile away has over 20 of the best resturants in the region within 1/4 of a mile.

Either way your right, worcester sucks. Just not for any of the reasons you mentioned.

Sowhatchasayin? And better off, who cares? You had a good time at the show, right? Just let that be the positive and go with that.

the post was not so much about the show, but the choice of venue and the iimediate vicinity of the show. Im pretty sure this falls under Freedom of Speech...and i'm pretty sure it wasnt a "props to worcester" thread.

Yeah whatever. I'm just saying that I've been on the road for the past week going to the past four shows. I was in a bunch of different cities and I'm not bitching about which city was shit and which one wasn't. I had a great time and i remember the positive things.

I feel the need to shit on one city pointless and a waste of time.

Me too, as they have never played a Maine show. As soon as the tickets go on sale, give me a shout.

I couldn't agree more with the original poster. Worcester sucks. It is a 4th rate city not worthy of a 1st rate band. We were driving down one road that had a bump so big my friend's car bottomed out and now it drives funny. And the strip joints were atrocious.

were you there for the city or the show??? what is more important???? seein the bboys anywhere is more important than where the show is!!! you are only there for like 5 hours anyway. i know worcester isn't the best place in the state, but it's where they choose to play.....i also can't say that worcester is my favorite city, but the bboys are the best!!!! if that's where they choose to play, then by all means as fans we should go!!

Good point shadrach, and I did enjoy the show itself, except for the bathroom and concession lines. But sometimes when you go to a show, especially when you drive an hour to get there, you like to make a day out of it. At Gillete or Tweeter, you have the tailgaiting, at Fenway or Fleet, you have the bars and restaurants. At the Centrum, you have , well....

Thankfully we stopped at the Sports Depot in Allston before heading out. Otherwise, I'm not sure we would have eaten all day.

I dont know about you guys... maybe I'm just a super fan or something. But before I see the Beasties, I'm way too nervous to drink or eat. I guess it's just me.

I dunno.

I was for NYC..but for worcester i let it ride. I figured they would play down to the crowd anyways, but all in all they rose above it.

and really, like were hearing anything new about Worcester anyways.

State Theatre would be an ideal venue....other than the shittay acoustics.

Come to portland next time. I'll take y'all out for a sushi deluxe......yauch, you eat fish? :(

How many of you are tour managers/planners/organizers??? You all complain so much, yet, still go to the shows. Find something worthwhile to bitch about these days...gimme a break!

for real, who cares about the city or the venue, the show is what matters in the end. I'd PERFER somewhere closer then centrum but I have been there on the floor for pretty memorable shows, it isnt that bad at all.

but if the beasties ever tour again, and if their managers or whatever sees this, next time go to fleetcenter! It's only like 30 mins away from me!

I could do Portland. At least we'd have the Old Port. The Fleet Center has terrible sound. I agree...Worcester isn't the greatest city. I think the Boys have just played there for ages. They could always come up to Manchester, NH and play the Verizon Wireless Arena! Even though the bar scene was a bit lame, the show was well worth it.
