I hope the Beasties do not bash Bush at the ALT show tonight. The Atlanta Metro area and GA for that matter is majority pro Bush and will not be as receptive to the anti-Bush message.
I am going to hear the music and would rather they leave politics out of it.

what difference does it make? can't someone express an opinion contrary to yours without you taking it personally?
lets try..

not voting for Bush FWIW)...but, I am going to hear the music and would rather they leave politics out of it. It detracts from the concert imo

why? a lot of the rhymes are political - how does that detract from the concert?

about politics...and the one political rap..."in a world gone mad" sucks to high hell, so that too would detract from the show.

At the philly show they didn't talk too much politics. Just the one clip of Will Ferrell playing Bush and something towards the end. That's it. It's not a BIG deal.

maybe you should also advise the boys on what clothes they wear, what they eat before the show and what to do after.

What are some other songs that are all about politics? (I can think of a few that have a political theme about Tibet from Ill Comm...but not so much to the point it dominates the song or rap.)

You obviously haven't heard TT5B yet... "Right Right Now Now", "Time to Build", "We Got The", "That's It That's All", and I'd probably also include "All Lifestyles" since Bush wants to ban gay marriage. But they'll probably only play "Right Right Now Now" and "All Lifestyles."
And I hope you folks have a sense of humor, because the Will Ferrell video is pretty brutal in it's send-up of Bush.

Unfortunately, I don't think we'll hear much about Bush other than maybe a "Don't vote for Bush" shout out. It would be so fitting especially in Gwinnett. I think they should change the county's motto on their water tower to "It Sucks to Live Here." I was disappointed that they decided to play out in the sprawl, but I guess the ticket prices are cheaper and the parking is free considering that with the number of people who want to see them their only other choice would have been Philips.

Don't even get me started on the Gay marriage ban....it is not a ban...Gay people can get married all they want, the government is not going to stop them...in the sence that it is a spiritual endevour. What they are proposing is that it should not be recognized by government for taxation, legal (divorce), insurance purposes etc....
IMO, the governement needs not recognize anyone as married, it is none of their damn bidnez...

Well I would agree with that, but it's kind of a double-standard right now in terms of inheritance law, survivor benefits, having next-of-kin status, and yeah, taxes and insurance benefits. Like it or not, marriage is a legal status as well as a spiritual/religious status. The saddest part is the problems relating to next-of-kin status - two of my closest friends are gay, and one (who is kinda sickly) has stated emphatically what his wishes are for when he dies - but it's likely that his Mormon parents won't respect his wishes like his partner would.

First of all, if you haven't "examined" the lyrics, how do you know whether they're political or not? And, if you haven't "examined" the lyrics, how can you say you don't enjoy the album? I don't understand...
The Boys definitely made some statements about Bush at the Philly show. I tend to agree with them, and even if I didn't, it wouldn't have changed the fact that it was a fucking incredible show and I had the time of my life...

im sure you can still enjoy the music.. they're just expressing their opinion! my and my sister or more towards bush.. so we just didnt clap or scream out things like "screw bush!" at the occiasional times they mentioned him. and we thought the will farell thing was still really funny. And mostly.. they just told us to vote in November. which is what everyone else seems to be telling us so i didnt see anything wrong with that..
i think you just gotta loosen up a little.. if a couple statments about politics are going to completely ruin a night spent with the Beastie Boys, thats.. kinda weird.

If the Beastie Boys want to say something that they believe, let them. I understand most people would rather hear music, but it's not like they're up there giving a 40 minute speech on how terrible Bush is. If I had a forum where I could speak about what I think is important I wouldn't take that for grantid. And I hate it when people say "celebrities" shouldn't say their political opinions - if the majority of people who have that open forum shut up, which most of those people are celebrities, the rest would be politicians and the media, then nothing would change in this country. It's like the whole voting-so-your-voice-is-heard propaganda - we'll tell you all to vote but not to actually say what's on your mind.
Now I'm rambling. But does anyone really expect NOT to see some politics in a Beastie Boys show?
