It was the tightest show i've seen.
MMM played a set about 6:15sh on another stage. Pootytang and I got to meet him and took some pics with him. He was really cool.
I sqeezed my way pretty close before Green Day came on. And the got up to the barricade by the time Beasties hit the stage.
They played a very similar set list. Opened with Triple Trouble, the Sure Shot and Root Down. Pootytang sacrificed his VW chain and Mike put it on!!!
They had a little catwalk on the stage and the boys took full advantage of it.
Paul Revere on the Catwalk with Yauch down by the railing. Damn!
They didn't go to the sound stage or "upper deck" since was an outdoor show for Intergalactic. They closed with Gratitude and Sabotage. Very sweet.

I'm not sure if any of the pics have Mike with the VW chain on. We all got separated during Green Day.
Can someone PM me with idiot proof directions on how to post pics.
Thanks.

Well howdy all yall. I am left speechless after the Saturday I just had. I would have to say it was one of the best days of my life.
It started out when I got to meet and a hug from Julliette Lewis, wow she is a hottie! Then getting to rub meet the best dj ever and take pictures with him, holly cow I nearly shit myself. Then to top off the evening Mike D wearing my VW emblem on a hemp necklace for about 3 songs, that was fucking something else.
The Beastie's performance was unbelievable. The sounds were clean and nice. The show lasted for about 1 hour and 15 minutes which seemed like a half hour.
The Best song they performed clearly was "Somethings Gotta Give". That song would calm the beast in any human being. I actually cried.
I am ready and hyped up for the Austin performance this friday. Hopefully I will see some of yall there.

A couple of more thoughts on yesterday. I checked out the end of Northern State's set. They rocked. If you don't know who they are they are worth checking out. Old school beats and rhymes. We met them after their set and my buddies got pics with them.
MMM did about a 45 minute set on another stage. He ripped it up. Played a little No Sleep till Brooklyn. Nice laser show with him too.
Green Day put on a nice show although i don't consider myself a fan. They got three young kids from the audience to come up and play. One on drums, one on bass and the other on guitar. The drummer and bass player kids had to be about 14 years old. The guy who came up to play guitar actually got to keep the guitar.
The Beasties had their green and yellow adidas suits on...then switched to the powder blue tuxes...then to the orange shirts with game's names on them.
Alfredo had his 'fro in a ponytail kinda thing. And $Mark was trying to do handstands on the keyboard. He came out during the rap set and did a cartwheel too.
There was a guy in a "fat lady" costume filming. MCA took the video camera from him at one point and turned it on him.
Their energy level was intense to say the least. I don't remember and "hold up mike...bring that beat back" kind of stuff. I know MMM missed his cue on the fressssshhhhhhhh. And Mike tore into him for not "watching the finger"...it was hilarious.
They were very tight. I sent Mirmanee the pics and hopefully she get them up soon.

Thanks for your help Miramanee!!! Just for the record...I did not take these pics. My buddy had his wife up on his shoulders and she took the pics. I had a cheapie disposable camera (without a flash) I took quite few pics from my spot on the rail. If any are worth posting i'll try and get them up as soon as they're developed.
I also have another guy who is going to be sending some pics he took. I'll try and get them up soon too.

i got pics, too. i used a digital camera i had never really used before but i managed. it was hard to get good shots though they kept moving around and my camera would take like 3 seconds before it actually took the picture. the show was fudging awesome. i was on rail as well. mca put the mic up to me to sing part of paul revere...first person he gave the mic to actually. i was the one you couldnt hear cause my voice was pretty much gone by then. i just got home from new orleans like an hour ago from voodoo fest so im too tired to do anything. drove for 8 and a half hours straight after days without sleep and i gotta go to work soon. i'll share the pics soon. i got one with the VW chain!. i tried like 10 times to get a good one...wasn't too successful though. i'll be there for the austin and dallas show as well. i told mca that.. i was like "hey adam i'll see you in austin!..and dallas!" ok must sleep...too much rambling.

hey Laver, sorry we couldnt link up at the fest, i just flew back in to NYC this evening.
my thoughts on the show-
I agree that the Beasties were on point. Their energy was just as high as the MSG show, but I noticed the crowd just wasnt into it as much as they could have been.
i noticed this for Talib, DeLa, and Tribe as well.
Big ups to MMM, pulling double duty on Saturday with his solo show then going up and DJ'ing the Beastie boys.
There was not one mistake that I remember the whole night. there was one point during "Ch-Check it out" when D does his freshhhhhhhhhhhhhhh attire bit, he made MMM drop the beat and take it back again...
I wasnt far behind you Laver, based on your description of where you were located. i was about ten rows back from the catwalk, pretty close to Yauch when he came out the middle.
i was calling their setlist all night, when i screamed out "Somethings Got To Give" this guy gave me a weird look, then on cue adrock says"this next one is called Somethings got To GIve"
impressive.
Open Letter was fucking on point, i was giving big shout outs to NYC , wearing my "NYC Brouhaha Division" shirt i got for filming MSG.
i am still pumped up as could be, what an amazing week with the Beastie Boys!
De La Soul and Tribe Called Quest get bonus poits for putting up with the weak audience....
I know I did my part (y)

Yes! I remember seeing you. Jeebus, who could forget that shirt. Extreamly nice shot. You look like a proud man indeed. I was on the rail as well and shot 2 rolls of their set alone, with the zoom up action. I'lll be taking lots more during the Texas shows and will be happy to post them if someone could school me on how to do so.

Sorry I missed you too. From where I was, the crowd seemed really into it. But I can't compare to MSG since i wasn't there.
I was on the right side against the rail...when they were on the catwalk i actually had to turn around completely.
Also...my buddy is working on a website with additional pictures right now. He's attempting to put a short video clip (recorded with his digital camera) of Brass Monkey up. As soon as he gives me the green light i'll post it.

i was bummed about how the pics turned out but they are better than nothing. wish i had press pass, i was on the rail and had a little zoom. i could preview the pics on my camera and deleted several that really didnt turn out. i tried not to really worry about the camera though i just wanted to enjoy the show...and that i did.

I just wanted to say, we saw them at Red Rocks earlier this year, and they rocked the house, of course, but the voodoo show was even better! Besides there were crazy drunk fools fighting right next to us at Red Rocks, kinda ruined the moment, then some guy stole my shirt that I bought. Anyway, every time I see them they get better and better. By the way, my pictures were really bad, so thanks for posting.

By the way I just read a post in the publicity stuff, and I agree that the crowd was pretty laid back. We weren't in the front, just half way between the sound board and stage, but where we were, people were just standing there. Not dancing, barely singing. As a matter of fact me and my friend were going so nuts about 6 different people asked us if we wanted to get in front of them because we were hollering, so we said yeah. But even when we got closer most of the people were just standing there. Is that even physically possible as a beastie concert? What did you guys think?

there seemed to be a lot of dedicated beastie fans in the area i was at. and i could hear everyone singing along to most of the songs behind me...from what everyone else says i guess the rest of the crowd didnt have too much energy. so i start playing with that camera, and i find out how to take better pics. i figured it would be under setup or under menu when it is set to take pictures but no..you have to go under a whole different thing and change the settings. damn thing. i knew i should have studied it before i went. it's my dads so i didnt get it till the morning before i left anyway. now i'm mad knowing i could have gotten much better pics. hmm...should i try sneaking it in to the austin and dallas show? maybe disposable.

I did a disposable for Voodoo, but I have only gotten one camera processed and they turned out horrible. Maybe it's just my picture taking talent, or lack thereof. Anyway, you can probably get a pretty good disposable if your worried you won't be able to get it together.

i was in a WEAK section, everytime i would jump around or even sing lyrics people would look over their shoulder like i was some kind of fool. by the end of the show i had a chip on my shoulder just because the audience around me was weak, it was like i had to show them what being a fan was really about out of spite....
i definitely felt that vibe, but it was their loss, i still had a blast, i just couldnt believe all the people STANDING AROUND

You should have moved/squeezed yourself closer.
My friend has put together a little website with some various pics of voodoo.
I think it's still a work in progress...but here you go.

yeah, I think I definately broke a few eardrums, and possibly a few toes. But well, if your just gonna stand there....
I was able to access that link to the photos, those were great, I am sad I didn't get to see all the bands that came. But seeing Tribe was pretty much head to head with seeing Beastie Boys. I could not beleive they came out without even promoting a new album, just for the love of it. I was in a frenzy! At least everyone in that crowd was in the same state.

That's the think with festivals...everyone is there to see everyone. The Beasties drew a big crowd of folks just wanting to see the last show of the night. Some fans and some not.
I wonder how the energy would have been at the UNO arena for a true Beastie show???

That's true, when we saw them at Red Rocks last month the crowd was a lot more rowdy. I think they just should have let all us Beastie lovers in the front row, that way no eardrums or toes would have been hurt, and I would have been happy! ;)
Kay, I was pretty darn happy anyway, no matter what everyone else was doing.
