Republicans appear to be easing into a new strategy ,quite discreetly ,of telling uninformed voters that they SHOULDN'T vote.
There are a lot of "grass roots" organizations trying to combat declining interest in politics by getting more people to vote. Even MTV is doing its part with the "Choose or Lose" campaign. Of course, MTV has the ulterior motive of getting more clueless 20-somethings to vote in order to help its guys get elected.

All the while, these groups knowingly work under the false assumption that decreasing voter turnout is the cause for our politicians' ineptitude and give those who vote (who vote randomly for all intents and purposes) a sense of accomplishment. In this case, they are treating the symptoms to further hide the disease.

Because you have probably heard numerous times about why you should vote, I would like to take this opportunity to tell you why you shouldn't.

Maybe not you...but chances are—9 to 1—yes, you.

Do you know who your representative is in Colorado's House? If no, you may be an uninformed voter. Did you judge last week's presidential debate on appearances and style? If yes, you may be an uninformed voter. Do you believe in government-sponsored discrimination and civil rights? Yes? Or do you believe that people should make their own financial decisions but not their own lifestyle decisions? Yes? You may be an uninformed voter.

To Trey Parker and Matt Stone,

I remember a cordial hello when you guys were beginning to be famous guys around Hollywood at some party. I remember several times getting a few giggles out of your humor. I remember not being bothered as you traded on my name among others to appear witty, above it all, and likeable to your crowd. I never mind being of service, in satire and silliness.

I do mind when anybody who doesn't have a child, doesn't have a child at war, or isn't or won't be in harm's way themselves, is encouraging that there's "no shame in not voting" "if you don't know what you're talking about" (Mr. Stone) without mentioning the shame of not knowing what your talking about, and encouraging people to know. You guys are talented young guys but alas, primarily young guys. It's all well to joke about me or whomever you choose. Not so well, to encourage irresponsibility that will ultimately lead to the disembowelment, mutilation, exploitation, and death of innocent people throughout the world. The vote matters to them. No one's ignorance, indcluding a couple of hip cross-dressers, is an excuse.

All best, and a sincere fuck you,

Sean Penn

P.S. Take this as a personal invitation from me to you (you can ask Dennis Miller along for the ride as well) to escort you on a trip, which I took last Christmas. We'll fly to Amman, Jordan and I'll ride with you in a (?) 12 hours through the Sunni Triangle into Fallujah and Baghdad and I'll show you around. When we return, make all the fun you want. http://www.drudgereport.com/penn.htm
And there is one retort from Sean Penn.
What do you guys think? I think uninformed or otherwise goes both ways. There are people who will vote for Bush by buying into his public image alone as well, as if they will actually have a beer with him someday. Crazy issue to be raised IMHO considering what we are talking about, the given right to vote.

i have been trying to get more informed about local issues and canidates. now that i have been geeting survey calls and asked questions about it, i feel like i better be more decisive.

As far as my vote goes i just want to get the crooks out.
