Well, this was my final time seeing the Beastie's live on this tour, caught them in Atlanta & Miami too, and the Tampa show was the best of the 3. The GA seemed a lot more crowded than the previous 2 shows, and added to the great energy of the crowd. Granted, probably about 40-50 people got down to the GA floor when an unsuspecting STAFF member turned his back and then all hell broke loose as fans rushed down fromt the lower level. MMM came down to open the show from the first level, drinking a beer! Hopped right in to Egg Man and the crowd was jumping. A basketball got thrown up on stage during Triple Trouble and MCA started dribbling which was awesome. Then the GA crowd started getting rowdy, so they stopped after Sure Shot to try and calm the crowd down, at which point someone threw a plastic cup (I think that's what it was) and it hit Mike D right in the head. But the Boys hopped back in to the set and they were loving it. Nathaniel Hornblower's illegitimate son hopped up on stage and started dancing, I think during Time to Get Ill. He was dressed up like Hornblower and Adrock loved it. Highlights for me were Root Down which was tight as hell, Lighten Up (a surprise to hear it), and Paul Revere had the whole place singing. Of course So Whatcha Want, Sabotage etc... Rocked like hell!!!
It was a fantastic night, great vibe and energy all around. Probably my second or third best Beastie show I"ve ever seen. Nassau Coll, NY '98 is tops that I've seen, but this Tampa show was great. Here's the setlist:
1. Egg Man
2. Triple Trouble
3. Sure Shot
4. Root Down
5. Time to Get Ill
6. Pass the Mic
7. Super Disco Breakin'
8. Posse In Effect
9. Shake Your Rump
10. Sabrosa
11. Lighten Up (Yes, that's correct)
12. Something's Got to Give
13. AOLTNYC
14. Body Movin'
15. Paul Revere
16. RRNN
17. 3 Mc's & 1 DJ
18. Brass Monkey
19. So Whatcha Want
20. Ch Check it Out
21. Intergalactic
22. Gratitude
23. Sabotage
While walking out of the arena I overheard some guy say "Damn, those guys still put on a great show, and they jump around a lot, eventhough they're old!"
They certainly do put on a great show. Thanks Beastie Boys!!!
