More prisoners released from Abu Ghraib (http://washingtontimes.com/upi-breaking/20041017-093732-4435r.htm)

Baghdad, Iraq, Oct. 17 (UPI) -- Approximately 260 more prisoners were released Sunday from the notorious Abu Ghraib prison near Baghdad.

An Iraqi justice ministry source said 120 of them were released on bail, while the others were permanently freed.

Iraqi officials said they were coordinating with U.S. officials for the release of additional prisoners from Abu Ghraib, were some U.S. soldiers apparently tortured Iraqi prisoners.

They said authorities wanted to empty the prison before holding the general elections in January as an incentive for participation.

They added Sunday's move was also to mark the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, which started Friday. What were they doing there in the first place?

Were they freed after being proven innocent?

Or were they arrested and imprisoned indefinitely without trial?

Anybody?

That's good to hear, but unfortunately I fear these people are gonna go ballistic Good to hear that they were set free, so that they could go and vote, after being arrested for no reason and detained for no reason and tortured, raped and killed for no reason.

How kind of Saddam to have those prisons built, so that the coalition could have somewhere to continue to torture and rape Iraqis.

You BET those people are pissed. And their families and friends and colleagues and every single fucking person in the entire world who hears about this is going to get so superduper pissed that some of them might just go out and seek revenge on the first American or Brit they see, wherever they are.

how do you win a war on terrorism when you keep making more terrorists? Why would you want to eliminate something which gives you an excuse to invade any country you like, imprison and torture innocent people and install a puppet government which will give you first option on all Natural Resources in the country, at whatever price you decide?

pris·on·er Audio pronunciation of "prisoner" ( P ) Pronunciation Key (prz-nr, prznr) n.

1. A person held in custody, captivity, or a condition of forcible restraint, especially while on trial or serving a prison sentence.
2. One deprived of freedom of expression or action: “He was a prisoner of his own personalityof that given set of traits that... predisposed him to see the world in a certain way, to make certain moves, certain choices” (William H. Hallahan)

Just checking to see if we could indeed call them prisoners. Funny, it is true for both 1 and 2.
"especially while on trial or serving a prison sentence." The only part that does not fit with the context in which the word is being used.

We should also address this same issue as it exists in the United States.
