Very mature answer, I know this thread is kind of childish but I hope you all know that it's all in good fun...

You don't think the "well done" is a little patronizing? ;)

Hey, I didn't mean it to be. Don't talk down someone who's exercising his rights, man - even if you don't agree with his choice, you have to respect the fact that he was able to make it. Voltaire and so on.

Voltaire was being paraphrased, and was talking about freedom of speech, not about getting a pat on the back for being an asshole. White slavers were "expressing their rights" - does that mean I have to respect the fact that they were able to do so?

Moral:
Voting Bush = Owning Slaves
Not Voting = Not Owning Slaves
Voting Kerry = Freeing Slaves

Ironic that you speak of "fact" and his "choice" in the same sentence.

That may be so, and in the same spirit I shall say that anyone who votes for Kerry is equally not so smart.

Ready to bet?
virtualbookmaker.com has the odds on the election, we should put our money where our mouths are! Or do our own pool. Right now if you bet a buck on Nader you can $2000 (if he wins)

We should all put our money on Bush. He is a sure win. Also I'm not too keen on gambling, but are the odds dynamic?

One of my roomates will vote for Bush. I brought in the mail and saw his absentee ballot. I almost threw it out, but decided to be fair.
I guess it depends on your definition of fair. Me, I would have trashed that ballot. But then I've always had really lousy self-control.

Voting for Bush doesn't necessarily make someone an asshole, and there is absolutely no comparison to be drawn between voting and slavery - that's totally ridiculous. I think Loppfessor deserves a pat on the back for turning out to vote at all - if the last election was anything to go by, half the people eligible to vote aren't going to bother. Since when was it such a sin to vote?

Read what I said again. I wasn't saying voting for Bush is like slavery. I was merely illustrating that saying "voting is good" is a stupid thing to say. You can vote for evil things, and just because it is democratic doesn't legitimise it. Voting for a policy of baby-eating doesn't become "valid" just because you have a right to vote for it.
If you voted for a baby-eating policy, you'd still be well within your rights, and you'd still be a sick asshole.
And Lopprofessor is an asshole anyway. Check his posts, the guy's a grade-a prick.

You know, it really does look like you're drawing a comparison between a vote for Bush and slavery - or at least being an asshole. But even if all you were trying to say was "voting isn't necessarily a good thing," I fail to see how that has any relevance at all to the context of the discussion. It would be relevant if voting for Bush was indeed an evil thing to do, like slavery and eating babies - yet you say you didn't mean to make it out as such. I wouldn't participate in any of the three myself, but I must disagree. I don't think voting for Bush makes Loppfessor an asshole, I do think participating in the political process of choosing a head of state is a good thing, and I find your point rather immaterial.

Merely that "just for voting" he doesn't deserve a pat on the back. "Just voting" is nothing special in itself. And "just voting" is what allowed Hitler to come to power.

You said killing innocent people was ok when you said you supported the chopper blowing up that Bradley "to protect its secrets."
People were killed, standing on a totalled Bradley is not a crime, therefore you support killing innocent people.
So yeah, if you weren't such a prick, I might take your criticism onboard. However, I don't tend to listen to the judgements of people who condone war crimes, as they are invariably assholes.

I feel I must interject here (so to speak).
I would say a vote for Kerry, or for that matter anyone who would do nothing to end the unconstitutional traditions that are income tax, social security, medicare, etc., is a vote for slavery as much as a vote for Bush is.

Well, at least I know my absentee ballot cancelled out something! With mrs. marsdaddy's vote, Kerry's ahead by one, at least.
Now, what color is Ohio, again?
So, do tell me why you voted for Bush. Was it the "better off today" litmus? The "strong economy" litmus? The "world is a safe place" litmus?
As you can guess, my vote for Kerry was related to my litmuses (litmii?).
