And notice that alot of the people who aren't from America, but engage in political discussions on this board regarding American politics, are largely Canadian, Australian or from a nordic/European nation. The UN charter is a treaty that is ratified by the US, and thus it is made provision for by the US constitution. This and other treaties clearly state what is and isn't legal for nations to do. These include the Geneva and Hague conventions.

It depends on how you define international 'law'.

That is like saying being a criminal depends on how you define 'law' - well, yes it does, but surprisingly it is not a term that is difficult to apply.

Now, as I assume you were not stating the redundantly obvious (That if you defined LAW as a type of man-carried anti-armour weapon, it would have little if nothing to do with international treaties being supported by the US constitution) I can only assume you meant that the *literal meaning* of the US constitution in relation to international law was somehow "not correctly interpreting it"

Which lead me to ask myself "Is there any more of the US Constitution that he does not think is meant to be taken literally?"

If suggesting that the literal meaning of the Constitution is a "less accurate reading" than some metaphorical twisting you choose to apply to it (in effect you are saying 'What I think the Constitution MEANT to say was...) - how is that NOT rewriting the US Constitution?

As for IceGargoylle, sure Bush will bring democracy, but at gun point. Its about as corrupted as Lenin's communism at gun point. And lets see how much success it has long term.

It's become a cliche but Iraq is another Vietnam, a civil war where America tried to fight with the support of a population that didn't really give a damn about ideologies. Sure, about 5% of Vietnamese people wanted democracy, largely the wealthy south vietnamese, and its the same in Iraq. But its not about what political system you, as the almighty Republicans, think is right. It's their choice, just as the presidential campaign is yours. If they want a dictator, or communism, or facism they have the right to choose it. If they don't, they should fight, just as the Americans fought against the British for independance.

Yet you cram democracy down their throats. How are they supposed to digest it?? They didn't fight for it, or even ask for it. It's like the old adage, if you want something, you will treasure it alot more if you have to work, or in this case fight for it, than if you were given it on a platter.

And may I restate that its illogical to think you can win a war against terrorism.
