Ok, for some of you HUGE fans, this will seem like a dumb question, but me and a friend were having an argument. So could someone please help clear this up, 'are all of the beastie boys jews'? I know I am right, but he is here and thinks he knows everything.

Thanks

what are you guys talking about? Mike is Jewish!
Horovitz is also Jewish (even though his mom isn't), and Yauch is a funky-ass Buddhist.

GENERALLY, in the Jewish religion the kids are whatever the mom is. So if the mom is Jewish the kids would be. I said, generally.

Obviously, you can be what you want but that's the "known" thing. It's because there is no question who the mother is.

Seriously.

I'm moving this to Frequent Post Archive.

I'm pretty sure Buddhism is more of a philosophy than religion, thats how its supposed to be.

They are All jewish....Yauch is not a buddist...in the early 1990's he was very much into Buddihism...but never converted. Come on...read the Q&A on the home page...gives all info there. ;)

They are of a unique race of individuals, known as "The Beastie Breed". Therefore , they are referred to as "Beasties" and are uncomparable to anything else that exists. That is just how phenomenal and special they really are ! (y)

They're all half-Jewish by race and they're all Jewish by religion, except Yauch who is buddist. (lb)
I'm also half-Jewish by race :D (y)

Adam: Biblical: name of the first man (Genesis 2-3). It probably derives from Hebrew adama earth; it is a common feature of creation legends that the god responsible fashioned the first human beings from earth or clay and breathed life into them. The name was subsequently borne by a 7th-century Irish abbot of Fermo in Italy. It has enjoyed something of a resurgence in the English-speaking world since the 1960s. In Hebrew it is a generic term for “man” (Genesis 5: 2) and has never been considered a personal name, although Hava “Eve” has enjoyed popularity among Jews. Derivatives: Irish Gaelic: Ádhamh. Scottish Gaelic: Àdhamh. Italian: Adamo. Spanish: Adán. Portuguese: Adão. Finnish: Aatami.Pet form: Scottish: Adif.

Yauch: means the americanized spelling of the southern German and Swiss surname Jauch. And Jauch means South and Swiss German topographic name from Middle High German jūch, a unit of measurement of land. Or from Eastern German, from a shortened form of the personal name Joachim. Joachim is German, French, and English, from the Hebrew personal name Yoyakim ‘God has granted (a son)’, which occurs in the Bible (Nehemiah 12:10) and was also born, according to medieval legend, by the father of the Virgin Mary.

Horovitz: Jewish (Ashkenazic): variant of Horowitz. Horowitz means the Jewish (Ashkenazic) habitational name from Hořovice in central Bohemia, now in the Czech Republic, which is named with a short form of a personal name formed with Hoř, as for example Hořimir, Hořislav.

Michael: English and German form of a common biblical name (meaning “who is like God?”) borne by one of the archangels, who is also regarded as a saint of the Catholic Church (cf. Gabriel and Raphael). In the Middle Ages, Michael was regarded as captain of the heavenly host (see Revelation 12: 7–9), symbol of the Church Militant, and patron of soldiers. He was often depicted bearing a flaming sword. Because of its sanctified warlike connotations, Michael was a popular name among early Christian military leaders, and was borne by eight Byzantine emperors, as well as by the founder (1596–1645) of the Romanov dynasty in Russia. The name is also borne by a Persian prince and ally of Belshazzar mentioned in the Book of Daniel. See also Michal. Cognates: Irish Gaelic: Mêcheál. Scottish Gaelic: Micheal. Welsh: Meical, Mihangel. French: Michel. Italian: Michele. Spanish, Portuguese: Miguel. Catalan: Miquel. Basque: Mikel. Romanian: Mihai. Swedish: Mikael. Danish, Norwegian: Mikkel, Mikael. Polish: Michal. Czech: Mich(a)el. Russian: Mikhail. Ukrainian: Mikhailo. Finnish: Mikko. Hungarian: Mihály.Short forms: English: Mike, Mick.Pet forms: English: Micky. Russian: Misha.Feminine forms: Latinate: Michaela (used in England and Germany); Micaela (used in Italy and Spain). French: Michèle, Michelle. Polish: Michalina.

Diamond: Jewish (Ashkenazic): Americanized form of a Jewish surname, spelled in various ways, derived from modern German Diamant, Demant ‘diamond’, or Yiddish dimet, going back to Middle High German dīemant (via Latin from Greek adamas ‘unconquerable’, genitive adamantos, a reference to the hardness of the stone). The name is mostly ornamental, one of the many Ashkenazic surnames based on mineral names, though in some cases it may have been adopted by a jeweler.
English: variant of Dayman (see Day). Forms with the excrescent d are not found before the 17th century; they are at least in part the result of folk etymology.
Irish: Anglicized form of Gaelic Ó Diamáin ‘descendant of Diamán’, earlier Dêomá or Déamán, a diminutive of Dêoma, itself a pet form of Diarmaid (see McDermott).

I would love to know why so many jewish people have last names that start as a gem / jewel or precious metal like Goldstein, Goldberg, Silverman, Pearlman, Silverstein, etc... or the whole last name is of a gem / jewel or precious metal like, Diamond, Ruby, Silver, etc... I mean I still haven't seen anything like Sapphire or Turquoise, Aquamarine, Emerald, etc...

I'm not hatin', I think those names are sweet  ... it makes a person sound freakin' rich or expensive. I was thinkin' about changin' my last name into something like that. Mine is so common. :(
