There is a difference between Bush and Kerry. This difference will save thousands of lives. If you still think your wasting your time voting for the corporate candidate or your making a case for third party politics, fine. But remember, Kerry is very different than Bush. Kerry is a much smarter man, he is not going to embarass us or endanger us to the level Bush has.

White House Downplays Missing Iraq Explosives

The White House acknowledged Monday that nearly 380 tons of powerful explosives were missing from a weapons facility that American forces failed to guard after the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq, raising fears that the munitions could be given to militants or used for attacks against troops in Iraq.

U.S. officials say the explosives — which are powerful enough to detonate a nuclear bomb — may have been looted from one of Saddam Hussein's bomb-making plants when U.S. forces worked to pacify Baghdad and other restive cities.

White House officials downplayed the significance of the missing explosives. But coming eight days before the presidential election, the disclosure reverberated through the campaign, with Democratic nominee Sen. John F. Kerry calling it one of President Bush's "great blunders" in Iraq.

"The incredible incompetence of this president and this administration has put our troops at risk and put this country at greater risk than we all need," Kerry said. "George W. Bush has failed the essential test of any commander in chief, to keep America safe."

Bush, Kerry added, "talks tough and brags about making America safer," but "once again failed to deliver."

"powerfulenough to detonate a nuclear bomb" - WTF? Explosives don't trigger nuclear weapons. The Nagasaki bomb "fat man" used an implosion shell to reach critical mass, but the whole point of that is that the implosion charges are of an incredibly small power (less powerful than a conventional bomb) as they are only meant to push the out casing inwards to a small point in the middle. That technology was obsolete the moment it came out (hence the Hiroshima bomb, Little Boy, which entered development after Fat Man, being more effective)

They can't mean that "that quantity of explosives has an equal yield to a small nuclear device" - even the smallest yield nukes have several mega-ton (millions of tons worth of TNT) yield.

It makes no sense whatsoever.

It isn't very specific, This from ABC online,

"The explosives in question are given as: HMW (195 tonnes), which had been under IAEA seal; and RDX (141 tonnes) and PETN (six tonnes), both subject to regular monitoring of stock levels. The presence of these amounts was verified by the IAEA in January 2003," the letter said.

I know I was thinking the same thing, huh? That is quite a bit of weight, 380 tons....

Missing explosives (breakdown)

A glance at the destructive power of the tons of explosives the U.N. says disappeared from a former military installation in Iraq.

HMX: Also known as octogen, it is made from hexamine, ammonium nitrate, nitric acid and acetic acid. Because it detonates at high temperatures, it is used in various kinds of explosives and rocket fuels.

RDX: Also referred to as cyclonite or hexogen, it is a white crystalline solid usually used in mixtures with other explosives, oils or waxes. It has a high degree of stability in storage and is considered the most powerful of the high explosives used by militaries.

Plastic explosives: Experts say both HMX and RDX are key ingredients in plastic explosives such as Semtex and C-4, puttylike military substances that easily can be shaped. Libyan terrorists used just 1 pound of Semtex in 1988 to down Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland, killing 270 people. C-4 or its main ingredients were used in the October 2000 bombing of the USS Cole in Yemen that killed 17 U.S. sailors.
Nuclear use: Experts say HMX can be used to create a highly powerful explosion with enough intensity to ignite the fissile material in an atomic bomb and set off a nuclear chain reaction.

It makes no sense whatsoever.

It makes some sense. My point isn't detonation of short range nuclear warheads, I don't give a shit about them, I have very limited knowledge of detonation of a nuclear device.

The IAEA does,

While the White House sought to minimize the importance of the loss of the HMX and RDX - two commonly used military explosives that can also be used to bring down airplanes or to create a trigger for nuclear weapons - the director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Mohamed ElBaradei, took the unusual step on Monday of writing to the United Nations Security Council to report that the explosives were gone. He usually sends a report every six months, and his last was just a few weeks ago.

"He doesn't do that to report trivia," a European diplomat familiar with Dr. ElBaradei's views said. "It's something that is considered grave."

Kerry is not Bush. Skull and Bones, Corporate co-sponsors, monopolised debates (infomercials) aside, the difference in intelligence is evident if you see how these two men are operating now, at crunchtime.

Kerry is truly concerned about Iraq. As am I. He wants our troops out of their and he's talking about what is happening in Iraq.

Bush on the other hand is saying things like this, "Senator Kerry has turned his back on 'Pay any price and bear any burden"

While Bush talks this non-stop crap, he ignores the headlines and the news. He never once brings up the topic during his stump! This is the guy we want to run our country? How much more can he destroy? He isn't living in the same America as I am.

This shit concerns me, I think this shit concerns Kerry too.
