Just got back from the Madison, WI show. It's nice to drive 5 minutes home from a show instead of three hours from Chicago. Anyway, the show was fucking amazing. I'm not going to attempt to list the set, I was too manic to note the order. It seems like it was similar to other posted sets. They played Pass The Mic, I'm not sure if that one has been in there.

They didn't spend a lot of time on the election, which was good. Adrock just kept telling everyone to relax and just party, so that was cool. MMM amazed me once again. He was doing this weird shit where he would bend the record...strange and fantastic.

The greatest part was Intergalactic....our seats just happened to be 4 FEET from where they busted out to do the song. It was one of the most amazing experiences I've ever had at a concert. People were going absolutely ballistic. The song seemed to only take 15 seconds due to the adrenaline in my system; my legs were shaking. A truly magical moment.

I also thought that the fucking floor was going to collapse during Sabotage. There were some crazy fuckers down there! Calm down, you wacky kids! ;)

I was also impressed by Kweli. I think he's a great opener for the boys. Better than I was expecting.

Anyway, i thought they were really energetic and in great form. I would estimate a crowd of around 7,000.

I felt kind of old (i'm 27), but then I thought of how MCA must feel. That calmed me down. Hopefully someone will post the setlist.

Hell yeah, I just got home myself. Fucking amazing. I wasn't feeling Kweli though. I've never heard any of his songs and when he went on those long yelling sprees I really had no idea what the fuck he was saying. But the Bboys were fucking amazing. I was probably 12 feet from 'em the entire time. Before the show they videotaped song requests by fans that were just entering and I take pride in being in one of the background shots. The biggest downer was the insane amount of weed that people were smoking. It was suffocating down on the floor. It would take one helluva concert to top this one.

I forgot one thing. I don't know if this was a staged thing or if it was unique to this show, but something funny happened during the taped song requests mentioned above. One girl said "I wanna hear Ill Communication!" Cut to MCA in the dressing room, who says: "What the fuck are you talking about? Ill Communication isn't a song. Do you want us to play the whole album?" Adrock then came in and yelled "Dumbass!" It was fucking hilarious.

Oh man, tonight's show was SO amazing! I saw the Beasties in 94 at Lalapaluzza in St. Paul, and there's just no comparison with tonight's show.

The energy was just incredible, and I loved it when Adam got on the fans to have fun and not just stand there! When they came out into the crowd for Intergalactic, I wasn't able to see because it was right above my head, but how freaking cool is THAT?!

There was the yucky cloud of smoke coming from the crowd at the bottom, that was the only bad thing about tonight. I'm SO stoked. I haven't seen a better show. (y)

The other cool thing was when the Boys came out in 70's style tuxedos and played under those lights on the moving stage. I could not have been more impressed!

-Still a fan! =)

I posted this in the other Madison thread...but here are my thoughts.

I think I got same great pictures with my disposable. Once developed I'll post them.

I had a great time last night. The setlist was outstanding...except I think the only PB song they did was Shake Your Rump.

They did open with Alright Hear This from IC. I think this might be the first time they've played it. As well as Pass the Mic with studio-version music...until MMM changed it up.

They also sported their brown sweatsuits in the beginning. I'm not sure if these were new or not. I don't recall seeing any pics from other shows with them.

The crowd was little on the light side. The entire upperdeck was empty...but the floor and lowerdeck were packed. The whole venue was GA.

There was a family of five (mom, dad and three kids with the youngest about 7 years old) there. And props to Earl, Beastie Security, who got them out of the pit area and into the side Pageant Pit.

I met up with Blue Nun and her husband, Elvis, as well as Miramanee. Blue Nun was definitely dressed to impress and the boys noticed. Blue Nun and I got on the roving camera thingy too.

I was a bit disappointed in the sound quality of the venue. I was on the rail and right in front of the wall of bass speakers. I'm not sure if it was my location...but the sound quality was not that great. But what I sacrificed in sound was made with being close and really feeling a part of the show.

Now....it's on to the Chicago show!!!

This is my eleventh Beastie show and I would put any Beastie show up against any other bands best show, but last night was my least favorite. First, the sound was terrible. In the past they have had the best sound of any band. I too was front row center so maybe it was just a bad spot but the bass was so distorted I missed have of MMM beats because they were unclear. Throwing in Master Ace’s Born to Roll in the second half of Paul Revere was money though. The set list could have been better but overall pretty cool. I liked the screens and the pit was fun except for one meathead. What killed the show though was the incredibly weak crowd. Maybe I’m just getting old but when songs like What cha Want and Paul Revere hit you could feel the electricity in the room. I don’t know if it was the sound or if the younger crowd is just more into the new stuff but it was weak. I think the Beasties performed great and in no way are blaming them at all. Overall a good show but I had been used to great.

well after going to the Madison concert last night

- My group and myself were center stage in the PIT 1st-2nd row. About 4ft from stage

- It was f@#$# awesome

- It was not cool how people had to get escorted out of the pit

- People smoking up, that crap is horrible

- Let me mention the person i punched in the face because he was trying to push our group and talking crap to me

- this Kweli guy only needed to do like 2-3 songs max, other than that he just sounded the same and peeps couldnt understand his words. Come on bro, you can go gangsta on a group full of white kids :D

- Oh ya, ****The shirt that read, "Let me get some action from the back section" my gf made those shirts up. So props to her!

IF YOU GOT ANY PIX POST THEM UP, I WILL BE GLAD TO HOST ANY PICTURES AS WELL, MY PIX from my CAMERA phone did not turn out so well.

I was there last night, and it was fucking FANTASTIC. From where I was standing(floor, half way back), the sound quality was perfect. I"ve seen other shows there where I sat near the back or on the sides, and it got a little echoey, so maybe that's the problem some people had. Great setlist. Energized rhymes. Great scratching and beat changups. Hilarious video clips. I'd put it up against any show I've ever been too, and that's in the 50 range. Thank you beastie boys for a spectacular night.

p.s. the smoke didn't bother me- hehe

i think that often happens at concerts. the guy mixing the sound is usually at the back of the floor. so his spot "mix position" is the best place to hear a concert from. they try to make it sound good everywhere, but every room is different. so there are likely to be spots where it sounds bad. next time if the sound is shitty you could try walking around.

also, front and center, unfortunatly might be the worst place to hear a concert from because the PA is either above you or next to you. so most of the sound that you are hearing is actually going past you, hitting the back wall and then coming to you, which is bound to sound like shit.

Ok, this is the first time I've actually posted anything  Well I went to the Madison show last night and it was fuckin awesome!!! I'm gonna marry Ad-Rock. Probably not but he is definetely do-able.
It was a really good show, I saw them last time they were in Milwaukee when Hello Nasty came out and this one was way better. I don't remember them doing as many of their old skool stuff as they did last night. And that guy that said "I wanna here Ill Communication" was sitting next to me, it was flippin hilarious! So was the guy who had his pregnant girlfriend that wanted to hear Shake your rump. I was in the first row of seats. I'm not that tall and if I'm on the floor, I always get stuck behind the tallest guy there. It was awesome, I got to see everything. And hell yeah there was a lot of weed smokin, I guess it would've been alright if I still smoked it but my eyes were burning by the time I left. Anyways, the show was pretty slick, I'm thinking about going to the one in New York, I'm sure they go all out when they're there. Piss out~

Yeah the guy with glasses that requested Paul Revere was right in front of me and the kid with the Run DMC hat was to my immediate right.

I was right up front near the center by the end of the left speaker, stage right. There is so much satisfaction screaming the lyrics at the top of your lungs with Adrock looking right at you.

What I really really loved about the show (other then being so close and MMM being amazing and the stage set up awesome) but you could really tell they loved every second of it. They love what they do so much and you could feel it. It was awesome. And shit did we go nuts when Sabotage dropped.

PS It was all skunk weed. You could smell it in the air and it was the cheapest grossest shit.

I would agree this show was not the greatest, I'm thinking worse concert I've been too. First of all, I'm surprised at the weak turnout. Also, why did they play all new songs for the first hour instead of mixing old with new like bands usually do. At least get the crowd fired up with Sabotage first, not last. I also was disgusted at the political references here. This election thing has been going on for almost 2 years, it's over, Bush won, get over it. I wanted music, not their opinion. They may not believe it, but some of their fans voted for Bush, just saying. By the time they started hitting the good songs, the concert got better. I almost left early, especially after hearing that crap-show of the opening act. I've seen way smaller shows at the Rave bar in Milwaukee and had more fun. Good luck all.

Just flippin' amazing....I think I'm still in shock that I FINALLY got to see them live. Re-affirmed their #1 spot on my all-time favorite groups list.

I was a little bummed that the crowd wasn't bigger, and I wasn't a huge fan of all the smokiness. But, since I'd about have given my left leg to see them live, I guess it's a small price to pay. One of the coolest things was seeing the age-span they appeal to. Little kids there with their parents...old biker dude...young kids who look about 11...just awesome. I felt old (at only 23) for a while....I ran into a bunch of kids I used to babysit when they were little tykes. :)

I dragged my bf to it...I think he's now a fan!! We were on the floor, center stage, about 20 ft. back - great place to be! Just on the edge of all the craziness, and I only had to 'fight' off one out-of-control, wanna-be mosher. The sound quality there was pretty decent, actually. I got a little emotional, too...teared up a little during Sabrosa. What a powerful group these guys are. It's been great hearing their progression from the first big break out of "Fight for Your Right" to the much more complex, socially-aware stuff they're putting out now. I'd go every night for the rest of my life if I didn't have bills to pay....

Peace.

BigSexyZ-- I could also feel the electricity during So Watcha watcha want and Paul Revere, and also Sabotage....oh yeah, I was on the highest high...my feet were barely on the ground at all....everyone just bouncing and bouncing....some say it was a lame crowd??? I don't get it. you must have been at a different concert cause I am surprised the place didn't cave in, at least where I was standing. I also went to the MSG show (section 334) and Madison (all GA), I kinda got pushed around and couldn't see very well at madison(I am a shorty) so I had a different experience. But the energy was there last night- at Madison, exactly the same as MSG (maybe it is all in your mind....I was just happy to be there! 2nd best night of my life, the first being in NYC). I could practically put out my hand and grab it. Oh, wait, maybe it was just all the 'dro I was smokin. AWWWW YEAH. that was me.
....still waiting to hear "Get it Together".....(AKA Ill Communication- HA!)

I was waiting for someone to say it, because I was starting to think it was just me. The Kerry and Bush references pissed me off, because I voted for Bush- I believe he is the best one out there for us ALL. Adrock seemed like a disappointed child in my opinion. One reference would have been fine with me (I expect that much) but to keep it going all night- I did NOT like that. Let it go. Bush won. No point in going on and on for the next 4 years.
ANyways, what a SMALL concert! There was hardly anyone there! I would not say 7000, I'd say more like just over 1000! Not even 1/2 the place was filled! I've never been to such a small concert in my life. BUT- all the better for us all there. My daughter and I were 2nd from the front, before this WONDERFUL 6'5 gentleman asked us if we'd like to stand in the front. That made the concert for me. We were 3 ft away from all 3- it was so awesome! And the people around us were great (except for the tall sweaty guy next to me, who hit me in the face a couple times- gotta expect that though). We stood next to the family of 5- I thought that was great.

I'm not really adding anything new to the thread, but I just felt like posting anyway.

First off, I thought the Beasites were great. Great set list. I did kind of get the vibe that they were a little down from the election, and I think the somewhat lackluster crowd (as other have said, there wasn't a soul in the upper deck) might have had something to do with it. I was expecting the crowd to be fucking bloodthirsty for them. I thought the place would be packed full with people going nuts the entire time. However, people just didn't seem to be getting excited for all of their songs. I was a little disappointed with this aspect of the show.

As for Talib, I've seen him live once before, and the sound quality definitely hurt him in Madison. Granted I was bout 8 feet from a huge stack of speakers, all I could hear and feel was esophagus-rattling bass. I couldn't hear any other parts of the music, so I had a tough time enjoying myself. That's really too bad, 'cause Talib has a lot of really sweet songs.

The floor kinda sucked. People got way too damn pushy. I mean, we're all on the same side man. We all love Beastie Boys, there is no reason to push and kick and elbow your way past people who have been waiting patiently at the fron of the floor since the doors opened. Show some respect for your fellow Beasties fans!!!!

Oh, and I must say, I met a lot of really cool people at the show. I didn't catch anyone's name, but it was nice to just hang out with good people in line and on the floor before the show started. Thanks guys, hope you all had as much fun as I did.

I was also at the show last night -- stage left.

As others have said, I was also hoping to hear a better mix of old/new.
My favorite disc is Boutique and I wanted a lil' more off of that -- but hell, its their choice what they play, I was just happy to be there.

About the crowd -- for the most part lame. I'd assume it would be a room full of some of the best peeps around, but not so much. Me and the trio I came with spent some time getting some 'fresh attire' to be ready for the pageant. There was only purple wig/sparkly glasses and Elvis-chops by me -- I didn't see anyone else dressed up. I was hoping that spending the concert in sunglasses and full-body velvet would seem worth it. Instead, upon getting there I was given lots of stares, like "wtf are THEY wearing?"
There were nice people by me, so props to them, but about halfway through the show a girl came in and pressed her elbows into me and another girl's lungs until we moved over -- some respect, damn! One row isn't going to make much difference. ... I just feel the beasties didn't get as good as they deserved in the good ol' WI.

About the Bush references -- I agree, its their opinion, and you pay to hear it. 48% of the audience (or more due to it being WI) agreed with them.
I myself got a little emotional at times, just because the new disc is political, that every time they played a track from it, I thought of the high hopes I had until Wednesday...... :(

But whatevah, I love these guys more than I can tell you, and they didn't disappoint. Both moving stage breakouts really impressed me -- as much as I love the rhymes, its great to see them getting back to the roots of it all, with instruments and such.

MMM still rocks my world as well -- I remember in 1998 going to see only him in the basement of the Rave... there were only about 250 people there!
... God**** that DJ made my day. day . day .. day

Nah, I'm done. I dont like to talk politics because it usually leads to an arguement, and I must agree that they entertained me plenty. :p I guess I'd like to see a show when politics wasnt all the hubbub. And yes, maybe to a bigger croud- they deserved better. Plus, I was thinking, they probably didnt get much sleep either, watching the results of the election. Sorry to bitch, I was just putting my 2-cents in there.

I gotta say that I didn't enjoy the Madison show very much. There was a weird vibe. Maybe it was just me and my complete disappointment with the presidential election.

Some people have commented on the empty seats in the house. I think the venue was more full than most people believe. Because the show was all general admission, you could go anywhere in the house, which equaled madness. The floor had twice the amount of people it should have had. People stood shoulder to shoulder. It was so packed that you could barely lift your arms or move. I think a lot of the people on the floor should have been in those empty seats.

Laver1969 (http://www.beastieboys.com/bbs/member.php?u=31), Blue Nun (http://www.beastieboys.com/bbs/member.php?u=20793) and her husband (who came in from Vancouver to see the show), and I got to the venue early. We bumped into Mr. James B (http://www.beastieboys.com/bbs/member.php?u=20074) filming for the shout-out clip and had a nice talk with him. He's a very nice man. You should say hello to him if you see him at a future show.

Arriving early allowed my group to get a spot at the very front of the stage. I stood against the rail in front of the bass speakers with Laver1969. The rail played an important role in my surviving the show. If I hadn't been against the rail and had the "open space" in front of me, I don't think I would have lasted long in the crush. People were being passed over the crowd and to security. It wasn't what it might have appeared to be from a distance. They weren't surfing; they were trying to escape the crush.

IMO Beastie Boys security waited too long before trying to do something about the crowd crush. And all they did was say something to Yauch, who asked the crowd not to pull that shit. At least, that's what I think Yauch told the crowd. I didn't really hear a lot of anything at the Madison show except bass. (Heed this warning: Do not stand near the bass speakers!)

I didn't keep track of the setlist because I expected Jamie would take care of that for the board. I attempted to keep notes in my gig diary (something I have kept for many years of concert goings) but had to forgo the idea because I needed my arms to fight the crush. After the show Jamie said he hoped that someone from the board had kept notes because he didn't think the official setlist was correct.

I only kept notes for the first few songs. I was pleasantly surprised that the B Boys chose to open with "Alright Hear This." Hmm, something different for the tour. Finally. :D Also, later we got "Skills to Pay the Bills." Kewl, kewl.

As Laver1969 noted, the Beastie Boys took the stage in brown track suits with numbers on the back. Horovitz was 3, Diamond was 24, and Yauch was 28. Horovitz' suit was quite ill-fitted, which contributed to the funniest moment of the show for me. During "Triple Trouble," I saw London, I saw France, I saw Adrock's underpants! His pants slide down, right in front of me. And I don't mean that they just slide down a little; it was a lot. Funny stuff... If you want to know the color and style of his underpants, PM me. Nah, please don't PM me.

Another funny moment in the show came during "Ch-Check It Out." In Mike's extension of the "fresshhhhh..." bit, he and Mix Master Mike couldn't sync the "attire!" part. They must have tried to get it right three or four times. MMM smirked at Mike -- a look like "It's YOUR fault, not mine" -- which cracked Mike up. He was really laughing hard at their inability to get it right.

I came to the show all prepared to give my love to Yauch -- you know, for being a part of the board and all -- but Mike D totally was the man that night. He had fun and it showed. I also have to give props to Horovitz for exciting the crowd. Wherever he stood on stage, the crowd directly in front of him suffered the crush the worst. He probably would not be happy to know that.

I was happy with the way the band treated the election stuff. I liked that they acknowledged that Kerry won Wisconsin, asking who had voted for Bush and who had voted for Kerry -- with the crowd roar and clapping raising to a thunderous level at the mention of Kerry's name. Horovitz said something about not letting the election result ruin our fun that night, and Yauch made a comment about Kerry's concession speech. He referenced Kerry's saying that America needs to support its leader. His response to Kerry's words about supporting Bush was "Fuck that shit!" (i.e., we're not going to support Bush), a sentiment I agree with completely.

A lot has already been said about how crappy the sound was. The bass was unbelievably loud. It was particularly bad during the first instrument set. I thought my ears were going to bleed. I remember thinking "Someone!! Please unplug Yauch!" :D

Friends of mine who had seats at the back of venue also commented that they thought the bass was too loud, so it wasn't just me and all the other people who were down front that thought it was bad.

The shout-out clip shown in the middle of the show was really funny. What martim07 posted is correct, although I'm fairly certain it was a guy, not a girl, who said he wanted to hear "Ill Communication." Horovitz saying "Dumbass!!" to that request was the best part of the video. Another funny part of the shout-out clip was a little boy (maybe 6 or 7 years old) saying he wanted to hear "Boomin' Granny."

Did anyone mention the show intro video with Mix Master Mike? The video started with the MCs in their dressing room looking for MMM. The camera panned the room and then Mike D opened a big trunk to expose MMM hiding inside it.

The show had the potential to be a really great show because the setlist was more mixed up than any previous show and the show occurred on a unique day (result day), but the sound problems detracted from all the good stuff. I don't blame the Beastie Boys for my disappointment with the show. They did their job. If I could have heard the music and their banter, I probably would be saying it was a great show.

It was next to impossible to take photos being crushed and against the rail with security people standing in front of me. I managed to take a few photos at the beginning of the show. Here's one (http://home.centurytel.net/miramanee/Photos/madison1.jpg) and here's another (http://home.centurytel.net/miramanee/Photos/madison2.jpg).

Great review- you were standing RIGHT next to me- I was the mom with the 13 year old daughter against the rail, gettin' crushed. We were holding hands so I wouldnt get pushed adrift away from her. I guess she was screaming PRETTY damn loud (I couldnt hear her, just the bass!), so much so that the guard jokingly made a comment to her. YES- Mike D was the man- he was SO much fun to watch! I was impressed. I was upset I couldnt hear ANY of their comments- I dont know if I'm getting old, or if it was the bass. Thanks for the pic's, too- I was too excited to get my camera out!

Hey, I remember you! You seemed pretty calm during the crushing. If it had been me with my child, I would have been freaking about people hurting her.

You're a cool mom to brave the pit crowd for your daughter. Or was it the other way around? She's the cool daughter for going into the pit with mom? :D

I'm going to talk to my friends who weren't down front and ask if they can remember any the comments we couldn't hear.

It's a shame that the show has to be a trade-off. If you're down front, you can't hear anything, but you do get to see things well and, to a certain degree, get to interact with the band. If you're out in the seats, you can hear well, but you can't see the funny expressions on their faces and you have a harder time connecting with the band.

Actually, it was a lot better than I thought it was going to be. I was the one freaking out- she was fine! I was in front of her pushing back so she wouldnt get smooshed so much. She wanted to be in the front- if we'd be in seats, I would have probably brought my 3 year old son with, because he loves these guys too!
Which one were you, now? I've seen your name on here a thousand times- but dont know which one you were exactly at the show.
I think it was still worth it being in the front, even if we couldnt hear the comments.

Same numbers on the track suits in Chicago, but again a different color. I believe they were grey and blue. Interesting, very interesting.

I am so bummed that this was the last show I would get to go to on this tour. I'm back in California and back to reality. I ended up going all by myself and am feeling like such a horses caboose for not being a little more outgoing cause it appears I was standing right near you, Miramanee, and I've always admired your presence on the board and your constant contributions. So anyway, I guess I can now say 'hi'. :)

I have to agree with you that the vibe seemed a little weird but I dunno, I was a little off my game that day due to the kick-in-the-gut results of the election, and maybe so was everyone else. I also had to say good-bye to my family earlier, that always sux for me. Once the boys took the stage I just got nuts. The floor was pretty crazy alright. But I was in the same spot at the Long Beach show and that one seemed worse if you can believe that! And talk about bass in yo face! I personally am still trying to collect myself from seeing London seeing France seeing Adrock's you know whats. *fans herself* Whoo! Not that I would ever complain about that or anything... maybe he could invest in some suspenders, eat a little more or get smaller pants? Just a thought.

The opening song was refreshing 'Alright Hear This'. I thought it would've been rad to completely switch it up and open with Sabotage because of what happened. I really loved the new Adidas suits with the embroidery and all. Talk about sportin that fresh attire! They played a clip of a guy taking the biggest bong load and coughing so hard he lost a tooth; which was pretty hilarious. Oh yeah, and speaking of video clips, I was on the big screen with my requests! It was cool to meet James and chit chat, he's a really nice guy, but I think I got completely stoopified at the sight of that camera. Probably not really reppin myself like I should have. Kinda cringed at the sight of myself up there but none the less, that was unbelievable.

I travelled all the way from California to go to this show and without a doubt, the Beastie Boys were worth every last mile! Kinda kicking myself for not going to the Chicago show.... Hello Brooklyn?! Damn. I was at an apartment that day right down the street from the Metro too where the secret show was!

Being in the front row at a Beastie Boys show is something all y'all should know. Still weak in the knees and completely smitten is this kitten!

PS - Please oh please B-Boys don't make me wait another six years!

That's a very Pootytangish thing to say about seeing my name on the board all the time! :D

I was to your right. Dark hair, red shirt w/a monkey on it, jean jacket. Originally I planned on sporting pageant gear to the show, but in the end, the weather dictated that I dress more appropriately.

Agreed. It's a thrill to be down front.

I barely remember- short hair?
I was going to wear an Adidas dress- green and yellow- and I'm SO glad I DIDNT wear it- esp since we sat on the floor for over 2 hours!

I thought the Madison show was awesome! Other than a couple of jack asses sitting behind me trying to guess all the songs and being wrong on at least half of them... I was so pumped to be there. I've listened to so much of their music and it was almost surreal to see them in front of me in my hometown!

Does anyone have a copy of the set list? I missed the tour blog posting of it. If someone could e-mail it to me at eurokates<at> yahoo <dot> com I'd be forever greatful!!

Well, that was a waste... and all because you couldn't bear to hear an opinion that differs from yours. I don't think you'll find a lot of sympathy on this board.

Actually, that's not why I didn't go you buffoon.

But thanks for your pennies..

;)

And I think there are plenty of people that tired of the election in General and din't need to hear more about it at the show. Whether for Bush or against..

I'm glad it didn't interupt the vibe of the evening...Sounds like it was a good show!!

No. Long hair. Let's not describe me on the board anymore, ok? :D It might be more interesting to discuss why you have two profiles on the board. :p

My daughter has one of her own, sometimes I forget to log out!
I've seen pics on here of you now- I remember!!

I'm guessing mad town is more of a drinkers stop? Who complains about weed at a show anyways?
Excuse me in advance to any cheeseheads, but I certainly associate Madison, and Wisconsin in general, with large quantities of beer. That's in part because my friends and I could drive across the border and drink at 18 yrs old.

At the Chicago show, my friend started to complain about the smoke during the dog act, and claimed she'd die or some kind of drama. I'm usually a good friend, but having traveled so far, it being my last show of the tour, etc., and having had a few cocktails myself, nothing was going to spoil it for me. So I turned to her and said, "if you need to leave, that's cool, but you ain't seen nothin yet" or something to that effect. She was pretty crabby for the next couple of days. She also thought the encore was too loud. So that's the kind of person who complains about weed at a Beastie show.

And Happyrunr, you not only brought your kid, you road tripped! Female Beastie fans are few in Mpls., so you give me heart.

Ok, tell me about it. I'm starting to feel stupid (or really smart) for being the only female I know that likes and enjoys them. At least I got my daughter off to a good start. My girlfriends are like- who are the Beastie Boys again- what do they sing again? These are the same ones who like country, or classic rock, or "easy rock". Are we suppose to DIE after 30? I refuse!!

Man, my heart stopped for a second, thinking there was a THIRD female Beastie fan in Mpls!!!

Keep feeling really smart. You are. Ever so often, I meet a fan, and it's really cool. And my coolest friend is 35, female, and a rabid fan. But you can imagine the reaction I got when I took time off work, to go to NYC to see them. But I was so giddy I just told the truth when I needed the time off. For my last show, I just kind of slipped away. I didn't lie, but I might have let them believe my mom had a medical thing . . . .

I'm guessing we would be an interesting group, based upon my limited sampling thus far.

When I was maybe the third-oldest person at the last Foo Fighters show, I decided that this was probably going to be the story of the rest of my life, because I'm sure not staying home and falling asleep in front of the TV. But then I saw Emmylou Harris and felt positively youthful.

Well, clearly this is a popular idea. :D 30-something female Beastie fans unite!

Happyrunr I can totally relate to not bothering to tell anyone. When we decided to fly out to Chicago to catch it and the Madison show, we told a couple people and either got blank looks or they reacted like we'd just sprouted a 3rd eye in our forehead. I found it interesting that if just said we were going to Chicago for a few days people were all, "Oh, how lovely." But if we added the bit about going to Beastie concerts the reaction almost always changed to, "Oh... er... really... why?" We just stopped telling anyone.

Why does hitting your 30s mean having to act like a walking advertisement for Eddie Bauer stores to so many people? I will not become the pleated khakis wearing soccer mom with the glazed, vacuous look pasted on my face as Celine Dion plays on the 'less talk, more soft rock' station in my mini van.

I am with you on this!!! The people I did tell at work really didn't understand at all. Most of them said "Beastie Who?" or "What do they sing?" Shortly after, I gave up explaining. I wish I would have been able to fly to see another show of theirs, unfortunately the cash wasn't available.

Oh my gosh, can I relate! Esp the Eddie Bauer thing! HA! A lot of my good friends (grew up with since high school) are Faith Hill wanna-be's- the boring mom, cutesy, nice nails, boring short hair (dont get me wrong- short hair can be good-if STYLED), country singing lovin' boring, no substance to their conversation goodie goodies. I am NOT like that, nor will I ever be. They are like carbon copies- and I just dont get it. Why are we suppose to let our spirit die down -because we are 30, some married, some with kids?- who makes up these rules here? There should be more women who are exceptions to these rules- where are they? They dont live in Minnesota, that is for sure. I need to move.

Okay, it's not Minnesota's fault! I am an aging female and I decided a few years ago not to worry so much what other people think. Plus I now have more money to do the stuff I wanted to do before.

As for old friends, my fellow aging single female friends have discussed this. A few of our old friends dropped out of sight when they got married, but most of the rest of them dropped out of sight when they had kids. Sometimes it's our fault, sometimes it's theirs. Sometimes we just get tired of asking them to stuff they won't come to. But I have a few female friends with kids who still come to our stuff. The thing they have in common with each other are husbands who share the family responsibility fairly equally, and who respect the plans they make with their old friends.

When I told everyone at work that I was going to NYC, they wanted to know why I would go to NYC for only 48 hours, and so I just told them I was seeing Beastie Boys. Most of them had no clue. The few who did were super jealous. My office is very very serious, and people already know that I go to tons of concerts. So I'm kind of seen as eccentric already. It did kind of cross the line when my boss's boss actually busted me looking up my seat location on the MSG website though.

However, almost no one knows that NYC wasn't my ONLY road trip. That I didn't think they would understand. ;)

P.S. To date, I have never stated on this board that any Beastie Boys are cute. It's all about the music and the funny.

Yes, I agree- that it does depend on home situations- with the friends married with children who stay in touch. I just think it's sad when they drop out of your life without trying to maintain a friendship, but hey, people change, and that is life. It's so scary watching all of my friends have children now- I had mine when I was so much younger, and now I'm watching them start their families- one of my girlfriends has 3 little girls under the age of 4! Amazing....
I know- about the Beastie Boys/cute thing. I was referring the the younger girls on the board- it's fine to go on about their looks- it's just not my things. My 13 year old daughter thinks they are all dogs, but she just loves the music to death. She thinks Mike D is the coolest.
