Just got back from 'da show and my ears are ringing!
Mix Master Mike was NOT in top form tonight. He messed up 4 songs!! The BBoys called him out twice for playing the loops too fast or missing a couple of stanzas. He fouled up on "Time To Get Ill," "Shake Your Rump," "Right Right Now Now" and "Hello Brooklyn".
Bboys were pretty cool about it; as was the crowd. In fact, this show was the most laid-back and audience friendly I've ever seen! The Bboys were cracking jokes and telling antecdotes like I've never heard. Even when MMM was making mistakes, the Bboys were digging into him very light-hearted (except for "Shake Your Rump" when Mike D stopped mid-song and told MMM "C'Mon Now...You got to keep up with us!!"
The Bboys didn't dance or jump around as much as previous years, but the keyboard player more than made up for all of them. He was a wild man on stage! Very entertaining.
I've seen the Beasties every tour since they opened for Madonna (and the whole crowd was chanting "F*ck You), and seeing them again tonight made me feel 10 years younger. Long live the Beasties; they look like they are having as much fun as the crowd was. They should keep touring!

when they go fressssssssssssssssssssssssssssh in check it out mike d stops with his finger in the air for like a minute. he gets the whole crowd to raise their finger, and then he is like "im hungry, i packed a lunch for the show" or somthing like that, then he pulls a sandwhich out of his hat he was wearing, takes a bite and throws it into the crowd, the 3 of them joke about it, the sandwhich gets thrown back on stage. mike re raises his finger then continues ch check it out as usual, it took like an extra 2 minutes
it was funny as hell

They also did:
Somethings Got to Give
Putting Shame in Your Game
The sound is not good at the UC - maybe that is why MMM had trouble. But he sounded great to me!!!
They did Intergalactic on a small stage setup on the opposite end of the UC from the main stage (right in front of my section!). It must have been too difficult for them to get into the stands there. They rocked the house!!!!

I agree the show was excellent. It was my first beastie boys show after waiting over 8 years since the Rhyme and Reason tour got cancelled. MCA stood up right in front of us on the rail during Paul Revere this part "Now my name is M.C.A. - I've got a license to kill I think you know what time it is - it's time to get ill Now what do we have here - an outlaw and his beer I run this land, you understand - I make myself clear. It was amazing.
All and all though I had a great time and can't wait til I get to see them again.

Props out to Sethomas for flying to Chicago without a ticket to the show or a hotel room to sleep.
I hope the Beasties sing Happy Birthday to you when you're in Montreal on Sunday!!! Safe travels and have fun. Tell everyone hi for me. :)

My Chicago weekend was awesome. I hadn't seen the boys since a Tibetan Freedom concert several years ago. Being at the concert made me fall in love all over again. They amaze me! Even after doing this over and over for many years, you can tell they are still having fun and love what they are doing.
As for Mix Master Mike...wow! I wish I knew how to scratch. He definitely has talent.
Can't wait to see them again.
Oh and I loved the reference to "Fast Times at Ridgemont High". That is one of my favorite quotes..."Since you're here and I'm here, doesn't that make it our time?"

I finally got back from Chicago. I had a blast! From my seat up front, the place looked full to me! I agree that it was more laid back and casual and the guys seemed to be having more fun than the other shows I saw. I loved every single minute of it. Cudos to Yauch for calling the idiots in the pit "frat boys" and telling them to chill out. And it seemed to work for most of the rest of the show. Also, there was this really big security guy that was stopping shit in the pit and he was great. My first shout out to security at a venue!
I was surrounded by fans who hadn't been to a show on the tour yet and they were so excited by everything -- it was really fun to see them react. They were even digging the dog show right out of the gate. Pretty friendly crowd in Chicago, but almost everyone I talked to had driven in like me.
Oh, and a couple of dorks started to leave after Intergalactic, and I had to grab them by the arm and yell at them that it's not over! We could see backstage and Beastie Boys getting back on stage at the time. Errrr.
I really needed this terrifict show after the horrible week before. Something's Got to Give was the perfect medicine.

I am very glad I finally got to see the Boys. This show was awesome, as was Mix Master. To me, that was half the fun. When he dropped "Born to Roll", and then "Breathe" over "So What'cha Want" I just about died.

At one point in the show, Horovitz gave props to sethomas for his pageant gear, which was a pink hat with "Scorpio" on it and a pink satin tie. (y) He asked Seth when his birthday is. (Hey, it's today! Happy birthday, Seth!)
.

Yauch & Diamond seemed to perform with less than zest than usual. Too much kid chasing? Maybe they didn't enjoy being in the House that Jordan built. The sound sucked. The sound probably had a hard time navigating through all those all those NBA & Eastern Conference Championship banners. Much Knick blood was spilled on that floor.
The pit sucked, I barely even broke a sweat, and there were too many fools. I saw two fights because 'dude your standin my spot'. It's a pit yo, deal with it.
They still put on a good show, even though they are getting into their golden years.

People keep saying sound is bad on the floor. Is that true of every show? I thought sound was great in Chicago, but I was close seats, not on the floor. I think sound on this tour has been better than at most arena shows I've seen.

The sound was better at the Chicago show for me than Madison. But you sacrifice sound quality when you are on the floor and close to the rail. The best sounding concert for me was the voodoo fest, i was on the rail and it was outdoors.

yo, how come no one seems to remember that they played "get live" at the chi-town show? I was so jazzed that they did, that song is tight! I thought the sound was pretty damn good for a big venue, most of the time it sucks in places like that, but I was pretty pleased with it.

Did anybody tape this show?

That sandwich Mike D tossed off the stage--I got a chunk of it!!!
My friend and I savored the flavor of Mike D's sandwich. I figured if Mike had taken a bite of it, it'd be alright to eat...there was a jelly like substance in it. :)

yes, I do mean "puttin shame in your game", sorry about that, I was having a brain fart over the title of the song when I said that. Must have been my daily dumbass moment because not only did I screw up the title of the song, but I discovered later that it had been mentioned by someone and they seemed pretty amazed as well that they played that song! Oh well.
