Wait, aren't people who don't exactly follow what the media and politicians say, are more than likely open minded? Not trying to make a generalization or anything... I mean sure you can have people who are open minded, they find someone to follow and ignore everything else. But if you aren't following what Bush is feeding you, what the Mass Media is feeding you, and what peoples bumper stickers say...
Hmm, maybe Im being as clear as possible. So people who don't limit themselves to what they see on TV, and hear on the radio...

o·pen-mind·ed (pn-mndd)

By that definition, I'd estimate around 15% of people in this forum are open minded.

Look Bub. It is proven that most of the media was pro Kerry.

So what does it matter when all you Joes get your news from Murdoch and FOX?

I only watch TV news if something is gory, I listen to the radio alot, usually to hear the traffic reports, Seattle is one perpetual traffic jam with just a tiny freeway for half a million commuters.

All the rest of the time I listen to CD's in the ride and watch Movies on the tube. I would have to say 90% of all news I get is read either by the three local newspapers or on the net....free NYTimes, LATimes, Guardian and mucho linkage doing the Google-age. Mostly I just go by what ASsman says. ASsman is my tour guide thru this mixed up crazy world. It's is written!

is it weird for a liberal to be for the death penalty?

(and i don't mean in a bush-texas-execution-happy way)

Those are just labels, but some would argue with you as to what it means to be Liberal (comepletly liberal). And how is conflicts with that belief.

Also, I like everyone who likes me. Boyah!

I am a left-wing liberal and I am for the death penalty (or some other form of torture- or i've always had the thought that they can donate their live bodies to science) for confirmed-without-a-doubt serial killers and pedophiles like Dahmer, Gacy, and Bundy. However, right now our "justice" system puts innocent people who cannot afford top-of-the-line lawyers on death row. This means that innocent people are put to death or sometimes issued the punishment of death which just doesn't fit the crime. This mostly happens to minorities and poor people. Our prison system is heavily flawed and needs deep reform.

As far as what it means to be open-minded, I think it means being able to listen to someone else's point of view without immediately judging them or telling them they're gonna go to hell.

Only an American can have this self contradicting view - or maybe it's because what an american calls left is what the rest of the world calls fascist?

The second one; very few Democrats oppose the death penalty. I'd imagine that such a "self contradicting view" would be rare in America, as the first past the post system encourages voters to support the party line―no matter what.
