Just because your parents are rich, doesn't make you rich.
Regarding "street cred", they never claim to be from the ghetto or to be "gangsta" so what does street cred got to do with anything? They work hard for their money and deserve everything they get.

I completly agree with you. It's the NYPost dude, they always fabricate these ridiculous stories.

Here's the item from page six:
A POTENTIAL blow to the street cred of the Beastie Boys comes with the revelation that 37-year-old Mike D's mother, the fabulously wealthy Hester Diamond, widow of art dealer Harold Diamond, sold off a substantial chunk of her art col lection for $65 million at Sotheby's Thursday night. Fellow band member Ad-Rock, real name Adam Horowitz, comes from equally distinguished stock — he is the son of noted playwright Israel Horowitz.
And my opinion? Who the hell cares about supposed "street cred"?
Is it really news that their parents were aristocrats? Most veterans on this board knew this already. They Beasties have never tried to hide this. "I'm Mike D representin Manhattan" should give you the hint as to where he represents. Mike and Horowitz are from Money makin Manhatten. Yauch is fron Brooklyn.
As far as their street cred. Their parents did'nt just buy them a recording contract with Capitol, Def Jam, or even Rat Cage. They got it the old fashioned way.....they EARNED IT. They came up through the NYC underground punk scene.....CBGB, Max's Kansas City and more. The MC's of today get much more privilege right in the door to the record label than the Beasties got when they were breaking in.

money doesn't create talent or success on it's own.
as far as street cred goes, the guys will always have it. cred has less to do with money than it does with creativity & originality. someone has street cred in my book when they stay true to themselves no matter what and they don't sell out.
*i'm not talking about getting paid, i'm talking about vanilla ice!*
it really pisses me off when people start writing articles like this because it's got nothing to do with the music or what they've given back to the world.
*on a side note, i think that adrock primarily lived with his mother when he was growing up, and from what i've read, it didn't sound like they had a whole lot of money*.
people can come from money and still be cool and genuine. people can grow up stone cold poor and be fucking asshole's. the focus should be on the music!

Sounds like the post was a little tounge in cheek about the street cred thing.. You guys are pretty defensive... As previously stated, anyone that knows the history of the beastie boys knows they came from well off families.. As for street credibility, being one of def jams first acts and the only one that still sells out stadiums (LL couldn't sell out msg today) 20 years later, thats enough credibility for me..

You have kids?? From some of your posts I thought you were about twelve... :D
I don't know about you guys, but in my opinion, the Beastie Boys seem to bring out the heart-throbbing adolescent in many of us females. Myself included. :o
Sometimes I just gotta tell myself to 'get a grip'!

No kidding.
Street cred, give me a break. Page Six is ridiculous. And what would the actions of a fully grown man's mother have to do with his street cred anyway?

SO, I'm bored and looked up Mike D's birthday- November 20th, 1965, which makes him almost 39. Same day as my husbands birthday. GO SCORPIOS.
