What is this facism?
Blighty posted this more than a year ago. I'm pretty sure there was a big argument about whether the US was fascist or not. For those who believe that the US if a fascist nation, please post examples of our fascism that relate to each of the 14 points.
I would say valvanos rapid response, even yours, relates very well to Umberto's #3.

I love how in the right's eyes, the well educated have nothing pertinent to say.

Hehe, downright laughable. They are smart enough to be academics but they should shun all that to work at a construction site?

How does my post apply?
Are you sure you don't want to read that point again?
Action being beautiful in itself, it must be taken before, or without, reflection.
Not much reflection on your part, just a rapid response with no time to think it out.

Your post is benign, I'm tired, my bad. I don't have the slightest clue why I strung you into it! I wasn't here a year ago, were you using the same article as a template? I actually just found it to be very relevent to today as I am sure it was at the time it was written.
It seems as though much that is thought may happen, does happen, even though it isn't the will of the people. Just saying....

Recent invasion's of privacy and this last Presidential Campaign, have given alarm to many in the USofA, and the world. One read of Ralph Nader's plight in the political arena sends chills up and down my spine. The poorest people in my state (by county) voted for Bush, the Richest (by county) voted for Kerry. We aren't looking for a fucking tax break, we're looking for real freedom.
The deal with Bush is, he lied about the WMD. I bought it at first, tried not to be jaded, now our trust at a very gut level has been broken, millions of people do not have trust in this govt.
Clinton's blowjob was comical, these lies are deadly. So yes, I am keeping a weary eye on all about me.

The Two Georges, Orwell and Bush: A Dramatic Reading of George Orwell’s Classic Work 1984 Interspersed With Recent News Clips From President Bush and Others
100 years ago today, author and journalist George Orwell was born. We’ll spend the hour hearing excerpts from his classic work 1984. The book introduced the terms "Big Brother," "thought police," "newspeak" and "doublethink." We'll also hear clips from President Bush, Attorney General John Ashcroft, Secretary of State Colin Powell, Fox New’s Bill O’Relly, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, Sen. Robert Byrd and broadcast footage of Donald Rumsfeld meeting with Saddam Hussein in 1983.
But we begin at the Pentagon, yesterday. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld told reporters: “I don't know anybody that I can think of who has contended that the Iraqis had nuclear weapons… I don't know anybody in any government or any intelligence agency who suggested that the Iraqis had nuclear weapons. That's fact number one.”
Well we thought of someone who suggested otherwise, his boss, President Bush:
“The evidence indicates that Iraq is reconstituting its nuclear weapons program. Saddam Hussein has held numerous meetings with Iraqi nuclear scientists, a group he calls his ‘nuclear mujahideen’ -- his nuclear holy warriors… Facing clear evidence of peril, we cannot wait for the final proof -- the smoking gun -- that could come in the form of a mushroom cloud.”
That was Bush speaking last October in Cincinnati days before Congress voted to give him the authority to wage a preemptive attack.
Now we will turn to another George, George Orwell who wrote about the rewriting of history.
He was born Eric Arthur Blair in India June 25, 1903. He moved to England in 1907 and would eventually become one of the country’s most heralded writers. It was not until 1933 when he took the name George Orwell. He fought fascism in the Spanish civil war. During the early 1940s he worked as a journalist and editor for the BBC, the Observer and the Manchester Evening News. He published Animal Farm in 1945 and 1984 four years. He died on January 21, 1950 at the age of 46
Orwell’s most famous book, 1984 is a warning about a futuristic totalitarian government that controls the public by spreading propaganda, monitoring citizens, changing language and rewriting history. In 1984 Oceania is in perpetual war. The enemy may regularly change but the state is always at war. And there seems to be no end.
Today we will broadcast portions of excerpts of 1984 read by Charles Morgan and June Foray and produced by Paul Vangelisti over a quarter of a century ago for Pacifica Radio. Special thanks to Brian Dishazor and Mark Torres at the Pacifica Archive.
* A dramatic reading of 1984 read by Charles Morgan and June Foray and produced by Paul Vangelisti for Pacifica Radio in 1975.
* Excerpts of recent clips featuring clips President Bush, Attorney General John Ashcroft, Secretary of State Colin Powell, Fox New’s Bill O’Relly, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, Democracy Now!’s Jeremy Scahill and footage of Donald Rumsfeld meeting with Saddam Hussein in 1983.

"11. Disdain and suppression of intellectuals and the arts.
Intellectuals and the inherent freedom of ideas and expression associated with them were anathema to these regimes. Intellectual and academic freedom were considered subversive to national security and the patriotic ideal.
Universities were tightly controlled; politically unreliable faculty harassed or eliminated. Unorthodox ideas or expressions of dissent were strongly attacked, silenced, or crushed. To these regimes, art and literature should serve the national interest or they had no right to exist."

Rosie Cotton, Valvano has nothing to do with our government. He is allowed to have disdain for the arts and intellectuals as he can do nothing to control arts and intellectuals. Could you post something that proves our government has stifled the arts or intellectuals? Have there been any recent book burnings?
It's called a joke. And if Valvano votes, then yes, he has something to do with our government.

D_Raay, it only takes me a portion of a second to read a few lines. It then only takes me a few more seconds to disseminate what was contained within those lines and realize they have no relevance to me (I reflected before I took action). How my quick reply has anything to do with the US government being fascist is beyond me (am I daft?) as I have no direct relation to the US government and cannot do anything that would be interpreted as furthing the fascist agenda.
I was merely explaining the reference yeahwho made to the article in question not offering my belief on the matter.
