Cute pic, Jess! :)

Toque is what they call it in Canada. I like that word. Over here in California we just call 'em beanies.

Skullies? Beanies?!?!? What the hell.. They are Toques.

And.. I'm from Nova Scotia.. and right now it is -3 degrees Celsius... or for you Americans.. It's 26 degrees Fahrenheit.. ... And I haven't even taken out my toque or mittens yet.. Heck.. I just wear my zippered sweater when I go outside.

Pussies :P

This thread actually reminded me of a commercial that I never saw but heard about from my Canadian friend for Molson. I was able to look it up on Google:

Now My most fav Molson commercial of all time is the one titled NO DOOT ABOOT IT. In this commercial there is an American who is making fun of this Canadian that he works with. Saying the following...

NO DOOT ABOOT IT
"So I hear you're from Canada, how's it going EH" (laughter) (Canadian looks at him) "Do you want a donut, I thought all they had in Canada were Lumberjacks and curlers"(more annoying laughter) "Is there running water up there"? "Where's your toque eh?"(Canadian looks at him angrily) "NO DOOT ABOOT IT" Canadian decides this is enough and jerseys him (pulls jacket over head and punches in the stomach) a typical hockey move. The Commercial is to be continued. -Molson Canadian Commercial

i love tuques too, but was disappointed to realize they won't stay on my head anymore. same deal with hoodies. i have to put ear muffs over top of the hoodie and even still it falls off.

only time i heard a tuque identified as a tobboggan was on the cibo matto site.

i'd rock a pin stripped tuque if it matched my suit.

What's wrong with just calling it a ski hat?

It worked for the decades and decades before people started calling them toques.

By all means, in canadia, they've probably have been calling them toques for generations and generations, but I honestly first heard them being called toques in last years toque foto thread.

I just always called it a ski hat.

I don't even know how to pronounce toque

is it like toke? too-kay? toe-cue?

Over here a 'toque' is something sportspeople wear to protect their privates, so Iyou can understand the dissapointment I felt when i opened this thread.

:(

Nice hat though Jess. (yes I call it hat. it's on your head so it's just a f*cking HAT)

...so, this morning at the bus stop was pretty darned cold.

This guy who's one of the regulars was talking to me, and we're exchanging "yeah, it's gotten cold all the sudden" sort of comments
when he tells me that he's lost two bonnets on the bus and needs to get another one.

Bonnet? I asked, and he said, yeah, bonnet.

Bonnet? I asked, pointing to the beanie I was wearing, and he nodded. Yeah. Bonnet, tuque, whatever.

Huh.

Growing up, we called them "sock caps." After moving to California, I reluctantly got used to calling them "beanies."

Bonnet? I think of Holly Hobby or Laura Ingals Wilder when I hear "bonnet."

This guy is probably, I don't know. Mid-twenties.

Now I'm picturing AZ wearing a baby bonnet.

It's disturbing and hilarious at the same time.

I'm always taking mine off putting it on taking it off putting it on all morning.

Having no hair on the head makes things chilly, so I have it on, but then I'm drinking coffee waiting for the bus and it's warming me up, so I
take it off, but then I'm bareheaded so I put it back on then the bus comes and I get on and the heater's going and now I'm hot so I
take it off and take my sweater off but then some draft is coming from somewhere so I put it back on etc.
