A Miami-Dade police officer used a Taser to stop an unarmed, 12-year-old girl who was running away from him after she was caught skipping school, police acknowledged Friday night.
The incident happened Nov. 5, just over two weeks after other Miami-Dade officers used a stun gun to restrain a first-grader. In that case, police said the 6-year-old boy was holding a shard of glass and threatening to cut himself. Police Director Bobby Parker defended the decision to shock the boy because he could have seriously hurt himself.
But Parker said Friday that he could not defend the decision to shock the fleeing 12-year-old, who was apparently drunk.
''Under the circumstances, we thought that he should not have used the Taser,'' Parker said referring to the officer. ``It's likely that discipline will be forthcoming.''
According to the incident report:
Officer William Nelson responded to an anonymous complaint that some kids were swimming in a West Kendall pool, drinking alcohol and smoking cigars about 11 a.m.
Nelson said he noticed the girl was intoxicated and told her to get dressed so he could take her back to school.
''While walking [the girl] to the police car, [she] took off running through the parking lot,'' Nelson wrote in his report.
Nelson, 38, a 15-year veteran, said he chased her and yelled several times for her to stop. Nelson said he pulled out the Taser and fired when the girl began to run into traffic.
The electric probes hit the girl in the neck and lower back, immobilizing her with 50,000 volts.
Nelson said he fired ''for my safety along with [the girl's] safety.'' He could not be reached for comment.
Paramedics treated the girl, who went home with her mother.

These tasers are pissing me off. They're supposed to revolutionize the world of "law enforcement" (their words, not mine) because they're (supposedly)nonlethal, and for that same reason (nonlethality) cops with tasers are quick to pull them out and use them on anybody, for any reason apparently.
I like how the 14th amendment doesn't mean shit to anyone anymore.

Yah, and really people are ungrateful. I hate shit like that, people try to do something right and get sued. Meh, It wouldn't have been on my conciouse if the girl had been hit by a car, or the kid had cut himself, as long as I said I did everything in my power. And you don't really hear much about kids getting pepper sprayed in the face, officers believing they were stopping the kids from hurting themselves. Really cops should look at it as not a last resort, pretend the TASER didn't exist, what would do you have done then? Also he should have tried to STOP chasing the girl before she ran into traffic. Maybe a "warning shot" straight into the air to warn off drivers.

Have you ever watched Cops? Don't you know how much police will exaggerate/bend the truth in their incident reports to protect themselves? Say the police break down your door (with a valid warrant, of course) and find you in the kitchen cooking some eggs. What's that in your hand, a frying pan? Those can leave a nasty welt on a cop's head. Pull out the taser!
Who are cops to protect people from themselves anyway? If the cocksuckers want to get drunk off half a bottle of Miller Lite and run into oncoming traffic then why stop them?

Hadn't looked at it that way. I was assuming there were other eye witnesses, and were able to support the cops statements.

Because my wife, sister, mother, father, or myself might be the oncoming traffic. I have already been in one head on collision and used up 8 of my nine lives. If you don't believe me, you could ask my aunt what it is like to be minding your own business driving down the road and have someone drunk drive in to oncoming traffic. Oh wait, she didn't live to tell about it.

Read the quote that I posted.
Oh yea, if a cop tazeres a 12 year old girl, she better pointing a gun at him because otherwise he needs his nuts kicked.

Got to start somewhere. The ENTIRE reason to me being here is to find a common ground with someone, especially someone that I do not agree with. From there we can work towards coming together to find more common ground. You see, once we find a common ground, whether you see it or not, a small piece of respect starts to grow. My best friend in the world has the exact opposite political views that I do but our friendship and peace thrives from the respect we have for one another.

I hear you one of my best friends is a republican, not a bush supporter, but a republican nonetheless.

McCain is a gangster. But I just remembered something: I wrote him a letter in like 9th grade as part of an assignment, and he never wrote back. What a flake!

Whoa.. law enforcement in the states and in Canada seems soooo different.
I live in a small town... the cops would never do that.
They generally ignore stupid things.

Meh, my dad's a paramedic and says that the cops do that kind of shit all the time. Haven't heard anything about over zealous tasering, but they do like to flaunt their badges.
Cocksucking donut munchers. :D

She was running into traffic. Cars are very dangerous. A car swerving to avoid a girl could've killed other traffic peoplez.

Thats what HE said. I don't think we have agreed on it being the comeplete truth. Cops might be trying to cover his own ass, and frankly I don't trust the either. They have lost my trust over the years.

My favorite Taser story is where a senior police officer voluntered to be stunned in a test.
He died...oops!
So much for non-lethal.
