no, they're not coming to hobart, but it's ok because me and Pres Zount are going to both the Melbourne and Sydney solo shows! it's gonna cost a bloody fortune, but it's worth it!

hmmm...it kinda makes concerts weird when the floor is over age only. Especially when you're like me and you're 18 and all your friends are 17 and 10 months. They all have to sit while I get to go in the pit (ooo that rhymes:))......not that there will be one for the beastie boys but you know what i mean :p

I have'nt yet decided yet whether I'll brave the Gold Coast BDO. I've stated my reasons regarding my apprehension for this previously and don't want to go into it again

Due to family, financial and work commitments a trip to Sydney for the solo show is out of the question.

no you dont have to be 18 to get into gen admission coz i always get in there its only the areas where they sell beer and stuff, and i think if you go upstairs towards the toilets you can get on the top level where its over 18's and no one can notice you

got BDO tix this morning to add to my hordern sideshow tix :) now I can see the bboys twice (y)

PS. they say the sydney big day out WILL SELL OUT THIS WEEK and the only tickets left are via Ticketmaster7
PPS. even if the poster doesn't say 'pageant' I'm sure they still want everyone to dress up. I know I will... If I can think of something that is..

Trust me, its overage only on the floor, unless you sneak in. And i know what you are saying, last concert i went to at festival hall was the offspring and it was all ages except the bars. But this one specifically has it listed that its overage only on the floor, and you need ID.

Thats what i'd do if hadn't just turned 18.......no way would i sit in those seats!!! At the offspring there was a massive pit and crazy punk rockers and freaky teenagers jumpin and everybody like partying on the floor. In the stands was a bunch of old farts with 10 year old kids. You gotta be on the floor :D, even if the beasties music doesnt really promote mosh pits and stuff.

No I mean 50-70 year old grandparents were there, not just people who were under 30 in 1987 or whatever, and therefore like max 45 now. And the audience will be old for the beasties, but the generation that will be there will largely be from 16-35 methinks :D

And the tickets sure are spendy on EBay! Is BDO worth it?

And how big is Festival Hall? Will Beasties be too tired from all the BDO activities by then?

I doubt they will be 'too tired'.. heck they'll have the whole north american, european and japanese tours behind them by then. I doubt a few BDO shows will wear them out..

and going on previous years I wouldnt bother with the excessive prices on ebay. you can usually find someone outside on the day selling for face value..

minton
11-27-2004, 06:00 AM
Festival Hall holds more than 5000, so it's large enough for a sideshow.

As for them being too tired - no way. You'll see the best shows here.

I have wanted to go to Australia for years, but there's always some place cheaper and easier to get to. Then the Beastie sideshows were added, and it suddenly looks like there's this window where I can actually get away from my job at exactly the right time, and I started thinking it was meant to be (even if it is the most expensive time of year). Plus it's snowing right now and I want to leave Minnesota in Jan/Feb. I'll probably be locking it all down on Monday (after talking to my boss), and I'm planning on seeing other touristy stuff, so it's not like I'm going JUST for the Beasties! The problem, you see, is that I can't tell anyone (not even close friends) that the Beasties have anything to do with this because they were already discussing an intervention.

If I book the tickets that work best with my schedule, I'll be in Sydney for BDO, and I'm thinking I'll want to be sure to have a ticket--even though I know you're right. And I think I'll be in Melbourne for the sideshow. I can't imagine how fun it would be to see them in a smaller venue!

Check out Wotif (http://www.wotif.com) for accomodation around Australia. I'll be using that to work out where I'll be on the Australian leg of the tour, so you know it's good.

Thanks a lot for the encouragement! I've been working hard to make this happen and I still haven't told my friends. I have to spend the money I was saving to rewire my house. It's almost a lock at this point because I have all the tickets on hold but I'm still trying for better airfare.

I'm going to be in Melbourne and I have a ticket for Festival Hall. I'm going to be in Sydney for BDO so I'll be wanting a ticket for that. (I'm also doing some touristy stuff like the Great Barrier Reef.) I still can't imagine how I'll survive the flight.

I still have a lot to study up on, but I was so excited when I looked at average temperatures in Jan/Feb.

Oh, and my boss was TOTALLY supportive because he loves to travel and he said I should do it before I'm his age.

^ Do it. You'll have a ball and I'm sure you won't regret it!

On another note, there's a rumour doing the rounds that the Chemical Brothers will close the main stage (not the boiler room) in sydney right after the Beastie Boys. Minton, do you have any way of knowing if this is true or not? It kind of makes sense for them to play the main stage cause the boiler room isn't big enough (and I'd love to see them as well as the BBoys), but closing the show? not sure about that
