I support the troops, unless they kill someone. I have a hard time supporting murderers. And if that means I end up not being able to support a single yank in Iraq, then so much the better. Makes it much easier to talk about when I don't have to make exceptions for the few thugs there who haven't yet broken US and international law.

I wouldn't expect you to support Yanks. You're A Briton.(nothing wrong with that) :)
Things like this go on more often than not. It just isn't always caught on camera.
Hard to say if the shooting was justified, without being there or seeing what else happened that day/week...

So you acknowledge that the US army engages in widespread warcrimes, and yet this doesn't bother you at all? That is pretty damn cold. Although to be expected, I mean, your country did elect a sociopathic despot for a second consecutive term.

What was the Other choice.....Someone who admitted to comitting war crimes, And then gets Medals for it?
Kerry did far worse than this kid did.....
No, I am not naive...I realise bad stuff happens in War.
Widespread? Meh. Does it happen? Yep.
Does it bother me? Yes.
Do I also put myself in the soldiers place and try to understand? Yes!
Is it only U.S. Troops? No.

Ok, I'll put myself in their place.
Let me think... Right, got it.
"I are a poor hick whose government has jipped me to the point where I have to pick up a kill-rod (gun) and train to use it (to kill) in order to have an hope of college education or a job.
So I have to learn how to kill, in order to get money. Knowing this, I have done so, and having joined a group of mercenaries (the army, who get paid to kill) I am not in the least bit surprised when they fly me over to another country, and expect me to do what I have been practicing (kill people).
I am now in a foreign country, full of people who hate me (because I, and people like me, have murdered their families, destroyed their homes, kidnapped and tortured their friends and colleagues, and made their country uninhabitable) and want to kill me before I kill them, and by this process, eliminate any freedom they might've enjoyed, no matter how small.
I go out with my buddies in a big armoured vehicle, and am faced with women and children armed with AKs, desperately trying to protect their homes from being demolished by a group of blood-thirsty uncaring gun-toting mercs, who are more interested about saving their own worthless asses and marking up enough kills to guarantee the next pay-check, than actually doing their job in accordance with US and international law. I use my gun to kill them, because, having gone right into their backyard, and started shooting up everyone and everything, I have left them no choice but to try and kill me first, and dammit, I am not gonna be the one to get shot. And of course, being the one in their country, spearheading a team going into their city, I get the first shot. Which is nice. Also, my gun is bigger and more sparkly, and unlike the little kids, I can hold it properly and fire it without falling over.
So I murder another dozen people who were desperately trying to protect their homes from people who don't feel they need to examine who they shoot, because "they might get hurt" - thus reinforcing all the reasons why they wanted to shoot me in the first place.
I go home, have some cocoa, wipe the blood of fathers, mothers, children off my overalls, wipe the thoughts of their faces from my mind, and feel glad that unlike them, I get to follow my cheques back to the good ol' US of A, and go live in a house that they bought, with my wife and kids which they provided for, knowing that my future is safe and secure, and all I had to do was kill enough towel-heads to keep Uncle Sam happy, and my ass in one piece. GOD BLESS AMERICA!"
Right, I've thought about that. How is that any better than
"I are a poor hick whose government has jipped me to the point where I have to pick up a kill-rod (gun) and baggies of heroin (which kills) in order to have a hope of providing for my family. I need the gun to protect my ass, otherwise some other gangsta or dealer might blow me away first." ?
Is it only U.S. Troops? No.
Well, that makes it ok then. Other people drink-drive, that means it is perfectly excusable and understandable for me to get smashed and speed around recklessly. Other people rob freom each other, I'm just making sure I'm not at a disadvantage. Fuck, everyone KNOWS that you only should follow a law if it is has never been broken by anyone ever. That's what they are for, telling OTHER PEOPLE what to do!

Is there a Geneva Convention for Smack-dealers?
Not everyone joins the Military because they're poor.

Freeper responses to the shooting? Blame the reporter...
---
Was not the reporter under the duty to hand over this tape to military authorities, under the rules of imbeds? If that's the case then strong measures should be taken against Sites.
---
I sincerely hope... But I'd rather the Marines dish out the justice.
---
Turn Sites over to the terrorist.
---
That tape should have gone to DOD for vetting first!!
---
No need for anything overt. Unfortunate things happen in combat zones, and if the reporter fails to hear someone yell "Sniper!!", well, c'est la guerre.
---
The US attorney general may be able to charge him with sedition.
---
Someone should've deserted him right before sunset in Fallujah, or some such treatment.
---
I wish. This guy Sites shouldn't walk away from this unscathed. Red America wants justice.
---
If the government won't police the press there will come a day when the people will.
---
It better charge Sites, that treasonous bastard!
---
Michael Savage is on fire over this issue.
---
He's an effin traitor. He is aiding the enemy. He should be tried and killed.
---
He sure behaved like a Judas didn't he? He certainly is doing the leg work for our Islamofascist enemies
---
Kevin Sites is a traitor. He shouldn't be allowed to get away with this

How can anyone on this board even remotely understand the thoughts that go through the head of a man who's been in the line of fire for months, is probably exhausted, misses his family, fears for his own life, doubts his own morals, has been taught to kill.
This type of environment doesn't always breed the sanity that a nice walk down main street USA allows.
Don't blame the man, blame the system that created him.

Yeah, poor guy... Being forced to kill due to a corrupt government press-ganging you into the military is terrible.
Oh, hang on, no draft in the US. So he chose to be there. Disregard.

Wounded Reservists In Limbo
By Eileen Kelley
The Denver Post, Novemeber 10, 2004
Their fellow soldiers are home with family or still in battle in Iraq, but 75 soldiers are stranded in medical limbo at Fort Carson - neither fit for duty nor allowed to go home for good.
On Tuesday, a pair of congressional staffers visited the post to talk with about 35 of those soldiers from the National Guard and Reserve. They heard a raft of complaints about the "medical hold" program that keeps citizen soldiers attached to the service but stuck far from families and jobs.
"They call us malingerers, and it is totally unfair," said Spec. Laurence Kiefer, 34, who returned from Iraq in May with post-traumatic stress disorder, knee and ankle injuries, and an intestinal ailment, but has been unable to get released to his civilian life as a chef in Montana.
"It's hard enough to wake up in the morning and start your day. I'm told they have exhausted all of their attempts to rehabilitate me, and they haven't even begun."
Congress has become interested after several complaints from soldiers attached to the Guard and Reserve. The two staffers, who did not comment on their visit, met with the soldiers Tuesday on part of a tour of several bases to hear concerns about "medical hold."
Soldiers and former soldiers such as Mike Lemke, 45, of Denver said they hope the staffers' visit results in congressional hearings.
Even after much of Lemke's unit returned to civilian life from Iraq, he remained stuck at Fort Carson for months while doctors, he said, took slow steps to help his post-traumatic stress disorder.
Eventually he was given a medical separation from the military and a lump sum of money.
"It's like fighting the war after the war," Lemke said. "Actually it is worse because you are totally depleted after fighting the war (in Iraq). It is demoralizing as hell, and you just have to wonder, 'Why did I fight that war when none of my rights as a soldier and citizen are being respected?"'
One soldier who attended Tuesday's inquiry has tried to kill herself three times since returning home from the war. She is one of several who Fort Carson leaders acknowledge have tried to kill themselves. The soldier's father sent a letter to Congress in October asking for help.
Officials at Fort Carson said they are doing the best they can for all soldiers and family members, and that there is more than enough adequate help available. Col. Brian Lein, commander of Evans Army Community Hospital at Fort Carson, said some will stay longer, but that on average most stay in medical hold for two months.
"You know as well as I do that there are going to be one or two soldiers who slip through the cracks or who don't feel that they have been adequately cared for," Lein said Tuesday. "... We are absolutely committed to working with soldiers."
Congressional leaders called for reforms on treatment of National Guard and Army Reserve soldiers a year ago. Some progress has been made, but many are suffering, said Steve Robinson, a soldiers advocate from the Gulf War Resource Center.
"I have a gut feeling that what is going on at Fort Carson is a national issue. The House Armed Services Committee is going to see the same thing (at other posts), but the question is, what are they going to do about it? ... It's too soon to tell if there will be a congressional hearing, but they don't take on these tasks unless it is serious."

Wow, now that's some great support...

john kerry is a grade A sack of shit, but i seriously doubt he shot anyone in the face. this thread needs to sit back, smoke a fatty (optional) and listen to an american folk classic, "when i win the lottery" by camper van beethoven.
Never run a flag up a pole
Like Mr. Red, White, and Blue down the road
But I never called myself a hero for killing a known communist.
Now I can walk into any old bar
Find a fight without looking too hard
But I never killed someone I don't know just cause someone told me to.
And when I win the lottery
Gonna buy the house next to mr. Red, White and Blue.
And when I win the lottery, gonna buy all the girls on my block
Silver-plated six shooters and a quart of the finest highland scotch.
Cause when I win the lottery,
the rights will shake their heads and say that
'God is good but surely works in mysterious ways.'
When I win the lottery.
