Racism and football violence are inextricably linked. Take the Turkish team knifings - that is as much about obscure ethnic rivalries as about football. Ditto with Rangers vs Celtic fans. (Although religious, not technically ethnic, it is pretty much synonymous AFAIK. The "Gaelic heritage" issue is significant, and that is ethnic).
