TEHRAN (MNA) -- Iran announced on Friday that the United States has become infuriated by the nuclear agreement between Iran and the European Union and United Nations nuclear watchdog chief Mohamed ElBaradei’s recent report on Iran’s nuclear program.

Outgoing Secretary of State Colin Powell said on Wednesday that the U.S. has seen information suggesting Iran is working on the technology to deliver a nuclear warhead on a missile.

“The claims by Mr. Powell, made after the initial agreement between Iran and the three European states and the statement of Mr. ElBaradei, were inspired by that country’s fury over the Islamic Republic’s transparency and efforts at confidence building,” a statement released by the Press Department of the Foreign Ministry said.

“This claim is baseless. Weapons of mass destruction have no place in the Islamic Republic of Iran’s defense doctrine,” the statement quoted Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid Reza Asefi as saying.

Asefi stated that U.S. officials have been repeatedly discredited in the eyes of the world for spreading false reports, adding that they must review their sources of information.

The Washington Post said on Friday that Powell's announcement was based on an "unvetted, single source".

The intelligence, which two U.S. officials said had not been verified is reminiscent of Powell's February 2003 UN speech about Iraq's alleged weapons of mass destruction, which was based on dubious intelligence and which so far has proved untrue.

"Okay George, okay, here's what we do. We flood the media with all kinds of bullshit about Iran's nuclear weapons of mass destruction, and then set off a small nuke in some useless US city, blame Iran, and grab the oil!"

"But what if the people find out?"

"What are they gonna do, VOTE us out?"

"HA HA HA HA, yeah, I guess you're right. Okay, approved."

Iran says that it is false, we made a mistake in Iraq, that clears Iran of any wrong doing.

Hmmm....ther's a few ways at looking at this. The first one that hit me was that the US invaded Iraq based on the talk of WMD's, of which none have turned up. Would Iran dare to suppose that, due to the world's suspicion of Bush and the US government given the mess over Iraq, that the US will not invade Iran based on the same (Currently) evidence-less claims of WMD's?
This would give Iran time to get thier work done, all the while fobbing off the world with "Who...us?" stories, then when irrefutable evidence arises, the US will not be in a position to strike because now Iran really does have a nuke capability......

I don't know......I read to much shit on t'internet.

If that is the case, then it serves Bush right for embarking upon an illegal war without thought to *all* the ramifications.

Although, the 3 key oil states named by Noam Chomsky over a decade ago were:

Afghanistan
Iraq
Iran

Now WHAT do all those three have in common, eh?

Big factor that came into the picture last week is China signed an agreement with Iraq to buy almost 100% of their oil exports and will finance the development of new oil fields.
With this any attack on Iraq will be seen as an attack on China also.
Don't think bush really wants to go there, China's military is larger the entire population of the US and they for sure have nukes with the missiles to deliver them.

This is where the Russians come in to play. Nobody will believe the US accusations (not that it really matters). If the Russian's are developing new types of Nuclear weapons, as they publicly have said they are. The Iranians supposeably ask for that info, (since they are such good buddies with Russia) and it leaks out to the World?? Hey, there's proof the Iranian's are building Nukes!! Putin and Bush do a little dance as they know they screwed over Iran, and war is justified!! Oh, and all that Chechnya stuff, can be forgotten because now the US has a real ally who is going to help the "War on Terrorism". Everybody rejoice, it's time to declare war on Iran!! :) Oh, and here comes the draft. Russia and the US take on Iran. Wow, monumental history here!! No, hasn't happened yet but these are my thoughts. Anyone agree, disagree??

US Congress okays $300m bribe...err, military aid to Pakistan

WASHINGTON: The US Congress on Saturday evening adopted a bill for $300 million in military assistance for Pakistan.

The proposal was adopted along with the $388 billion US budget that contains military aid programmes for Pakistan and Afghanistan. The budget also contains $400 million for training and equipping the new Afghan national army, a $350 million increase of the past year.

The US Senate voted 65-30 for the so-called ‘omnibus spending bill’ that combines nine of the traditional 13 appropriations measures. Earlier, the House of Representatives passed it 344-51.

The adoption of the proposal for military assistance to Pakistan is reflective of the cordiality of Pak-US relations and is seen as an acknowledgement of Pakistan’s significant role in the ongoing war on terrorism, as a close US ally.

This is part of the first instalment of the $701 million out of the historic $3 billion economic and military assistance package announced in Camp David on June 24, 2003. After the adoption of the total budget bill for fiscal 2005, Representative Bill Young, Chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, which had forwarded the proposals for passage, said: "This a lean and clean package that adheres to the budgetary limits agreed to by the Congress and the President."

The $ 300 million military assistance is designed to bolster capabilities of the Armed Forces of Pakistan. The Pentagon had recently notified to Congress that it planned to provide a $1.3 billion arms package for Pakistan in the future, including eight P-3C Orion planes to beef up surveillance of its coasts and borders to stop the movement of terrorists and drug smugglers.

In a statement issued by the White House in Chile, President George Bush has welcomed the move. He said, the legislation would advance his goal of strengthening the economy while cutting the budget deficit in half over five years.

"With resources already provided to continue to fight the war on terror and to protect the homeland, we have held to the fiscally responsible limits Congress and I agreed to and still adequately funded our domestic priorities like education, health care, and veterans’ programs," he added.

Israel, the leading US Middle Eastern ally, got a $73 million increase in its military aid programme, to a total of $2.2 billion. In addition, the Jewish state will receive $360 million in economic assistance. Egypt is being offered $1.3 billion for its military and $ 535 for its economic needs.

Fulfilling a US commitment to international anti-AIDS programmes, lawmakers allocated $2.3 billion to combat the global AIDS pandemic as well as tuberculosis and malaria, a $690 million increase over fiscal 2004.

The Andean Counterdrug Initiative received $731 million, but Bush’s request for other anti-drug programmes was cut by $30 million, to a total of $329 million. The US fiscal year begins October 1. The government has been operating on a continuing resolution since then.

Oh yeah? (http://www.commondreams.org/views01/0409-04.htm) Your funny little president isn't afraid of the Chinese. He'll be in his bunker while fire rains from the sky.

And it's not as if he's learned anything in Taiwan.

BEIJING (Reuters) -- A Chinese general denounced a U.S. suggestion that Taiwan's military target China's Three Gorges dam and said on Wednesday that any strike on the world's biggest hydropower project would lead to war.

In its annual report to Congress on China's military power, the Pentagon suggested in May that Taiwan target the dam as a deterrent against any Chinese invasion of the island, which split from the mainland in 1949 but is still regarded by Beijing as a breakaway province.

China will "be seriously on guard against threats from 'Taiwan independence terrorists'", People's Liberation Army (PLA) Lieutenant General Liu Yuan said in a commentary in the official China Youth Daily, warning against such a move.

"(It) will not be able to stop war ... it will have the exact opposite of the desired effect," Liu said.

"It will provoke retaliation that will 'blot out the sky and cover up the earth'," he said, quoting a Chinese idiom.

The warning came as the Defense Ministry in Taiwan said it had test-fired two Patriot anti-missile missiles to showcase its air defense capability.

The test was part of a routine drill and was conducted at a military base in southern Taiwan, the ministry said. It did not say when the test was held or give any other details.

Liu asserted that no country had conventional warhead missiles capable of critically damaging the dam -- made of concrete with a maximum thickness of more than 100 meters (328 feet). DAM WON'T COLLAPSE

"The Three Gorges Dam will not collapse and cannot be destroyed," he said.

Seismologists have said the dam is designed to withstand an earthquake measuring 10 on the Richter scale.

The dam was first proposed decades ago, but construction was delayed because late Communist Party chairman Mao Zedong wanted to ensure the PLA could defend it against any attack by Chiang Kai-shek's Nationalist troops. Construction finally began in 1993 and China has expressed confidence it can defend it.

But the Pentagon report stirred controversy in China.

"Since Taipei cannot match Beijing's ability to field offensive systems, proponents of strikes against the mainland apparently hope that merely presenting credible threats to China's urban population or high-value targets, such as the Three Gorges Dam, will deter Chinese military coercion," it said.

A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman said last week the report was "Cold War mentality harboring evil intentions".

U.S. President George W. Bush has pledged to do whatever it takes to help democratic Taiwan defend itself against Chinese invasion.

Tensions have simmered since Taiwan's March presidential polls, which incumbent Chen Shui-bian won by a razor-thin margin after a mysterious election eve assassination attempt.

China suspects Chen will push for formal independence around 2008, when Beijing hosts the Olympics. Chinese officials have vowed to pay any price to stop him on his road to statehood -- even losing the Games.

Liu, the general, called the Pentagon suggestion "petty psychological war".

He likened Washington to "Osama bin Laden, whose Al-Qaeda group has been blamed for the September 11, 2001 attacks on New York and Washington.

The Three Gorges Dam, also the world's largest flood control project, is due to be completed in 2009 at a cost of nearly $25 billion. With total capacity of 18,200 megawatts, it will generate 84.6 billion kwh of electricity a year. Your government is on its way to declaring war on China. First Taiwan, then Iran (http://www.fortwayne.com/mld/journalgazette/news/nation/10203770.htm). China is economically and militarily superior to the US and will not hesitate to nuke you.
