Heads up guys. There's a new ad for "Shock Doctor" athletic cup featured in USA Hockey magazine that uses the Beastie Boys name. It's a two page spread. On the first page, a cup is pictured with the words "Preforms like the Beastie Boys". The second page shows the girdle the cup is held in and says, "Feels like the Velvet Underground". I don't know if this is what Adrock is referring to when he says, "Now I go by the name of the King Ad-Rock, I don't wear a cup nor a jock." If so, then ya'll have already addressed it/seen it. If not, just wanted to let you know your being forced to be in the advertising. On the bright side, it's probably good exposure to a demographic that was alienated by TT5B's purer hip hop sound and leftist politics. (Yes, that is somewhat of a stereotype. I play hockey, get the magazine, yet I love the album and am a leftist myself. My point is, knowing the type, there are many in this hockey subculture that would know the words to FFYRTP, but dismiss ITTTB)

Is this for real? I don't know how much of an endorsement it is when your celebrity spokesman claims to wear neither a cup nor a jock.
BTW, Al, you are hilarious. Cheers...
P.S. Is it "ITTTB" or just "TTB"?

Yup, it's for real. I'm not saying that the Beasties are endorsing the product, I'm saying maybe Adrock saw/heard about the ad and is distancing himself from it.
Thanks, dude. Big cheers your way too.
I was trying to turn "It takes Time to Build" into an acronym; I think ITTTB is right, right?

It would be Monday at the earliest. I have access to a scanner at work, not at home. In the mean time, think of a two page spread, black background, an athletic cup centered (top to bottom and left to right) on page one with the words "Performs Like the Beastie Boys" in white centered (top to bottom and left to right). Page two (the facing page) has a hockey girdle and the words "Feels Like the Velvet underground" layed out in the same fashion. I can't track down the font name, but it is sans serif.

Good question. I don't know. I totally understand why they don't want to be in the advertising, but, considering Adrock's line in CCIO, I think the exec behind this ad copy is a funny dude. It's probably just coincidental though.

Yeah, I can see them making some subversive move one day. The guy from Devo remixed their "Whip It" song for a breakfast cereal ad. Anyway, he worked the phrase "jeans are the uniform of the proletariate" into it.
Fruit of the Loom would be perfect. I can see Mike as a bunch of grapes, MCA as a banana and Adrock as a cherry. Maybe they could remix "Shake Your Rump" and work in a line about the Chinese slave labor that's used to make the panties.
"I hear Jintao doesn't recognize labor. What you payin' those who put the satin in your underwear, huh?"
