Try the periodicals section of your local library, they might have microfiche or microfilm from that year. The bigger the library, the better you chances!

Good i-deee-r! I remember seeing Ione on an episode of CRIBS a year or more ago. Didn't tape it though. I think the Bboys should do an episode of CRIBS but like fake it... something silly, ok, I'm just sayin'. You know they'd have a trampoline though, right? That does seem weird that Ione would be on Cribs.

It would be great if Beastie Boys did something funny on Cribs. I get tired of seeing all the bling on that show. My favorite episode was when Simon Rex showed his house, which was nothing impressive but his whole approach to showing it was funny. He was showing off his car, which was like a '94 Taurus or something, and he had pictures of Bea Arthur hanging on his wall. I could see the boys doing funny shit like that.

She was on a show E! used to have called Celebrity Homes, which is similar. She showed some of her paintings she had hanging up, including one of her ex-husband who she said she used to paint "because he has such a beautiful face".

Does anyone have any more information on what month they might have been in Better Homes and Gardens? I have looked through each one and did not find it but it's possible that I missed it. Are you sure that it's '94? I'm interested in seeing it too and am determined to find it because I remember reading it when it came out and thinking to myself, "THAT guy lives THERE?" As if I had expected him to live in a beer stained animal house. :o Any more info would be great and I promise to share when I find it!

It was close to Ill Communication's release.

If I had to range it I would say it was between April and September.

I did way too much acid than any one person should take around that time so you can push the dates out if need be.

Are you positively sure it was BH&G? Because that magazine caters to middle-aged housewives, and it seems unlikely they'd feature an indie actress and a rapper. Maybe it was Vogue? Vogue does at least one house layout per issue (including one last year on Ione's current house).

Ok, here's an update on my progress: I have looked at every page of every issue of BH&G from '94 and it's not there.

But THEN I started thinking... yes, I may have bought a BH&G in '94, it would have been out of character but possible if their names were on the cover- which they're not.

I would have bought Vogue or InStyle instead. It's not in Vogue, I checked. InStyle's first ever issue was June of '94...perfect timing for the sales boosting presence of current it girl Ione Skye and her hipster husband.

Bad news: No libraries in my area have InStyle back to '94. But I'm back on the trail. Anybody got any leads on my InStyle hunch? I have no proof but it's a pretty educated guess.

And please, if you can prove me wrong please do! That would mean you found it and that we all could see it!

Kind of... I went to my library and their records of Vanity Fair only go back two years and they did away with Micro-Film. So I did some research and I found a store here in the city that sells old magazines, so i'm going to go down there ASAP. ill keep y'all updated.

Also I did get to read the Feb 03 Vogue with Ione and Davids pad's. Very interesting. I'll put those scans up if anyone here is interested, just let me know. She still has the same house in LA she shared with horovitz....

I have seen the '94 Vanity Fair with Ione...she was part of a picture spread dedicated to rock star's kids. Liv Tyler and Donovan Leitch (Ione's brother) were in there as well. There is one photo of her and a blurb about Ione and Adam being Hollywood's current hipster it couple.

I would share it but it was on microfilm and the copies you get from those are really bad.

Back to my InStyle theory! Start looking for InStyle June '94 and after!

Rich Cheney

(!)

The Vanity Fair article is not the one I am talking about!

It was Better Home & Gardens or maybe House and Garden; it profiled not Ione Skye, but her house at the time.

The BHG website seems to allow an archival search for subscribers.
Non subscribers can search only back to 2000.

I'm telling you I read the shit when I was online at a grocery store and it was $3.95 for either BHG or a steak and I chose the steak @ the time.

maryhannah
01-07-2005, 01:02 AM
Shh, Mr. Cheney. There there, calm down!

I know exactly what you're talking about it because I HAD it. Once. It's been buggin' me that: A. I lost it or threw it away. B. It was so long ago that I couldn't remember what mag it was in.

We've got a lot of good clues here, and tomorrow (1/7/05) I will go try to track it down at the biggest library in San Diego. If that fails I'll try L.A.. IT'S A MISSION NOW. I know what it looks like, I can see it in my head so I'll know it when I find it. There were shots of the pool and views of the house taken from outside. Adam himself wasn't in the article or pictures. The only other memory I have of it is that I thought to myself, "That guy lives THERE?" As if it would be too nice for a man, even one with a wife, to live in. I was 20 and still a bit dumb. (Please, no comments on the present!)

We are on the same page here, Mr. Cheney. I won't let you down.

I'm still dying to know what mag it came from, but until I find it I have you to thank for putting my mind at rest!Thank You!
Samantha Kluge was the Beauty Editor at Cosmopolitan in the mid-90s, so it was definitely Cosmo. (Kluge also did a story on Molly Ringwald's apartment in 1997.) Based on all the clues in the article (their ages, how long they'd been married, and what Irie said about the ad) it's probably from the first half of 1996.

wow, these pics are great, thanks guys.

i've been wanting to peep these since the begining of this thread, and i didn't think that i'd get the chance!

on a side note, it seems like it was more of an "ione thing", i can't imagine adrock really wanting to do something like this.

the house was nice, it was all about the yellow!

*i'd pick kathleen hanna anyday!

I to would like to say thank you for the pics and the article. I have to say I found it kind of sad, everything I ever read, as far as interviews with Adrock, he always talked about how much he was in love with her (in the past) and how he immediately fell in love with her when he met her and so on. It seemed kind of sad that they had made this beautiful home for themselves and then ended up going their separate ways. I guess everything for a reason, both of them seem to be in the right place now, this obviously coming from an outsiders perspective.

Hey Irie - I wanted to send you something as a token of appreciation for coming through on my request. PM me your email since you don't accept PM's yourself.

First, let me preface this with now utterly embarrassed I am to de-lurk and dredge up a thread this old, about a topic this WTF? But I'm laid up with a broken ankle on. Rainy day, so I'm combing through the archives, and pretty people and warm places look nice right now....;);

So, did anyone ever figure out what magazine and year this came from? (Or find scans big enough to actually read?). Someone thought Cosmo '96, but that writer, according to LinkedIn, actually worked for Glamour--

I'd like to read purely because I had forgotten they were married. (Or perhaps I just like envisioning him in forever soulmate status with Kathleen Hanna!) Is there even any details in when/where they got married? it's nice they got to have such a private marriage (at least until she went on Howard Stern, I gather...?), though her giving a house tour to a woman's magazine seems very Un-Adam...

Got nothing for you on this topic, but just wanted to say sorry about the ankle. I've been there and that's no fun.
