The Fossil-of-the-day Award is given to countries that block progress at the United Nations Climate Change Negotations. Guest of Honour and Fossil-of-the-century Winner: George W. Bush. Proudly presented by the Climate Action Network.

An environmental activist group has declared President George Bush "immoral" for his failure to support the Kyoto Protocol.

That failure that "condemns millions of people around the world to suffer the devastating consequences of global warming," said Jessica Coven, a spokesperson for Greenpeace International.

Speaking at the United Nations climate conference in Buenos Aires, Coven, also said the Bush administration's stance on global warming "is illegitimate because it's not based on science."

Coven believes that the science on climate change is solid and settled and that man is the cause of a looming climate catastrophe.

"We are saying, 'Stop denying the science, let's move forward and accept the science and accept Kyoto.' There is absolutely no reason for the U.S. to delay action," Coven said.

William O'Keefe of the Washington-based George Marshall Institute, a group that encourages the use of "sound science in making public policy," dismissed the greens' attacks on the Bush administration and the U.S.

"They ought to define their terms. What the Bush administration said is that the Kyoto Protocol would have adverse economic impacts, not justified by our stated [climate] knowledge,"

The George Marshall Institute recently released a study (http://www.marshall.org/pdf/materials/266.pdf) taking a skeptical view of alarmist global warming.

"If you look at the science, you cannot make a convincing case that that man's activities are primarily responsible for the warming that has taken place last century," said O'Keefe.

"Greenpeace doesn't want to have an objective or honest discussion about either the science or the policies," he added.

According to O'Keefe, green groups are the enemy of poor nations because they want to deny wealth to the developing world by limiting their use of energy.

"The people in these organizations are elitists, who are well off and aren't willing to face up to the fact that if there is going to be an absolute reduction in emissions, there is going to have to be an absolute reduction in energy use, and that is going to make people poorer," O'Keefe said.

"All the independent economic studies concluded that suppressing energy use is counter to economic growth," he said. He also noted that most of the growth of greenhouse gas emissions is going to occur in the developing countries. Oh! Look (http://stopexxon.unfortu.net/html/personfactsheet.php?id=860#src0) who's one of the Institute's funders! Objective and honest, my rosy, pink arse! Have a look at their site (http://www.marshall.org/)! Along with Climate change, they research NATIONAL DEFENSE, BIOTERRORISM and MISSILE DEFENSE. These are the guys keeping the US out of the Kyoto Protocol and undermining all the work the rest of the world has done, all because it's going to cost money!

Edit: Came across this guy (http://www.newswithviews.com/DeWeese/tom13.htm) while looking for other opponents to Kyoto. What a NUT!
