God i hated Talib Kweli starting the show! the bass was so loud my stomach hurt! (this was the Detroit, MI concert-his last show with the beastie boys...why couldn't it have been before mine that he left) i couldn't even hear talib for most the time! the only words i heard during the whole thing from him were the ones i'd rather not hear (motherf**ker, n****, etc).

Kweli is dope. Maybe the sound wasn't so great close to the stage though, as pointed out.

I did not enjoy him and frankly thought that one of the assets of being in seats is that I had the option of avoiding his set. Sorry.

In Brussels the sound was terible too. I don't know how they could fuck it up so bad. Maybe it was just to make the BB sound better. ;)
But he did a great job getting the crowd warmed up. When he came on there was no response, everybody was just standing there, doing nothing. But he got everybody jumping within 15 minutes or so, which is not easy since everybody came to see the BB and not him.
So big up to Talib Kweli! (y)

yes what he did he did well, warming up, that's what he was there for.I also
guess his set will be very different on his own tour. This was more like some hardcorehiphopwarmingupshitkindathing, which, well, got me warmed up :D

most of you people who don't like talib don't like hip-hop like alot of b-boy fans if you listen to blackstar with him and mos def then you will see how good of a lyricist he really is that's why the boys picked talib kweli to open for them they saw his talent

YoungRemy

no doubt his set was wicked. Euros must have different taste

his freestyling over whatever city he was in, his Beastie Boys shout outs, his 70s vs 80s schtick...

dude, i dont mean to dis, but i gotta, thats such a wack thing to say, if y'all KNOW hip hop then y'all know blackstar be cool, slightly over-rated,but still cool.
talib, and mos haven't produced REAL headz hip hop since their debut solo sh*t, both their new albums suck, talib be all jay z jiggy jiggy, mos be all indy rock i dunno what else, not even hip hop anymore.
and yeah i also agree talibs set sucked, it gave me more drinking time in the bar , maybe the bb could have bought a real hip hop band with them, ugly duckling, onemanarmy, j5 maybe, how about a warm up dj too, format anybody?

I don't care about Talib Kweli and his music - I think he tried(he's not bad) to do something with a crowd, but Money Mark really could be the best support for Beastie Boys on this tour! (!)

I thought his onstage personality was kinda of typical....wasn't impressed or maybe I was just too excited to see the boys I wanted him OFF STAGE

If you were stage front in general admission for his set, you were robbed of hearing a talented artist. The sound has not been great close to the stage throughout the entire tour -- with the exception of Red Rocks, which is an outdoor venue.

(y) sound near stage sucked.

It would be hard for alot of hip-hop acts to look good if they were opening for the Beasties. Most artists suck live compared to the Beastie Boys.
that is very true but where looking at it from a fan's perspective

I ADORED the dogs! (y) I insisted on being on time for the dogs, then hit the bar. Incidentally, the dogs were always a big hit with the stoners.

I did'nt like his performance (nassau show)- it was pretty weak. (n)
I mean they had Doug E Fresh come out as the special guest - why did'nt they make him the opening act - anyone would have been better than Talib Kweli - he got annoying after a while - I mean how many times can you call Long Island - Strong Island during the course of a 30 min set -
they could have gotten - Biz Markie, Run DMC, Digital Underground, House of Pain, Cypress Hill ...... (y)

I was kinda late to the wembley show so I only caught his last 2 tracks. Got me up and dancing so that was good enough for me. Would of liked to hear more of him.

i love Talib.... i had seats in Vancouver, and he rocked harder there than in Seattle where i was at the barricade, i dont think it had to do with sound though... just had to do with those gay rappers he brought up on stage... and the vancouver freestyle was amazing.

Well if you haven't noticed Run DMC is kinda short one person (unless they found a replacement but no one is the same as Jam Master Jay)

I saw him in Detroit and I couldn't understand him much either. Maybe that's why I didn't like him. It was funny how he came out in a big fur coat and then kept taking his clothes off as he got to hot.

Saw him at Wembley and because of the awful sound i have no opionon him as all you could here was the bass and couldnt here what he was saying. I thought the d.j that was with him though was quite good, anyone else with me on this one?

I saw Talib at MSG.. I gotta agree.. there was wayy tooo much bass. I could barely make out what he was saying. I've never heard anything by him before I went to the show but I thought he was pretty cool. I liked that thing he did with the Beatles "Eleanor Rigby".

Talib 1 Message Board beotches 0.

Its new york rap people, jiggy MC's have given way to MC's who shop at Banana Republic...we have to deal with this change and move on.

Talib's sound at London gig was terrible. I was really looking forward to his gig, but I couldn't even make out any of the songs. Then I got worried that it would be the same for the bboys, but it was great for them. Talib does not suck though.

I don't thought Talib Kweli sucked, I'm not a fan but it was not bad for a support act.. I was in the front line and felt nothing of the bass... Don't know.. maybe you're annoying yourself too much instead of being very happy you are going to see the beasties live ;)

ugh, I can't believe the attitude of some of ya regarding Talib.

He's one of my favorite MCs ever, and his lyrics are often RIDICULOUS.

That said, unless you know the songs well, his live performance is tough to hear/understand.

His latest CDs aren't killer, but yea. BLACKSTAR!!

I was front row GA and the sound was pretty bad for Talib and the Beasties. But Talib was flowing and the vibe up front was fantastic! Went out and bought Beautiful Stuggle and it's a good CD. Not amazing but much better than 95% of the crap out there.

It's got to be tough to stand up in front of x-thousand Beastie fans, just him and his DJ. I give him mad props for the show he put on in Ottawa. Some of his freestyle was damn sick. The Ottawa crowd is lame so it's no surprise the rest of the crowd wasn't feeling him.

Shit, just an example of Ottawa shows...we couldn't sell out one Beastie's show but we sold out 2 Hilary Duff shows???? That's fucked up...

i thought he was fucking excellent! he ripped his shit good and proper and he did a great job hyping an otherwise indifferent crowd. Plus his michael jackson section was great....
