Tibet: A Photographic Essay through the Eyes of Monks in Exile and Men Against the Clouds: Photographs by Early Explorers to Tibet- February 27 through May 29, 2005
Museum Hours:
12-4 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday 12-5 p.m. Thursday 1-4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday
These exhibitions have been organized for presentation to the Northwest Louisiana community by the staff of the Meadows Museum of Art at Centenary College of LA in cooperation with Joe Mickey, founder of the Tibetan Photo Project. Funding for pubic and educational programs has come from the Shelley and Donald Rubin Foundation of New York and from Roseneath Funeral Home of Shreveport; additional funding for educational public programs and for the printing and design of informational and promotional materials has come from the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities, a State affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities. The Meadows Museum of Art receives general operating support from the Shreveport Regional Arts Council with funds from the City of Shreveport. The Museum receives annual support from the Friends of the Algur Meadows Museum. The Museum seeks and receives funding from public and private sources on a project-by-project basis.

Two-day Religious Studies Conference entitled The Dharma in Dixie: Buddhism and Hinduism in the Deep South with keynote speaker Dr. Benjamin Wren of Loyola University of New Orleans; presentations by Neil Guidry, President of the Louisiana Himalayan Association, films and panel presentations, Indian lunch. Cost is $40 per person for 2 days, $20 for Saturday or Sunday only
Sunday, March 13-Lecture entitled Healing the World, Healing the Self: Comparing Sand Painting in Tibetan and Navajo Traditions with Dr. David Otto, Prof. of Religious Studies, Centenary College of LA 2:00-3:00 p.m. in the museum

Sunday, April 24-A Richard Gere and Drepung Loseling Production of the Mystical Arts of Tibet Sacred Music Sacred Dance for World Healing by the multiphonic singers of Drepung Loseling Monastery 2:00-4:00 p.m. at the Strand Theatre
Tenzin Wangden Andrugtsang, teacher and Tibetan exile, will present a series of lectures entitled The Religion, History and Politics of Tibet throughout the spring of 2005; programs include gallery walkthroughs and lectures; call 318-869.5169 for more information.

This major exhibition will feature approximately 60 photographic images, Tibetan artifacts, guest lectures, cultural performances by Drepung monks. Twenty of recently discovered photos of Tibet in 1932 and over 40 contemporary images by Tibetans in exile will be on display.
