yup, bland for sure kind of like tofu...no taste unless you add it. Now Taro chips are another story. They are made from the same root and very sweet. Have you tried those? They are like a purple potatoe chip with a yam taste. One of my favorites!!!!!!!

Taro chips aren't all that exotic.

my favorite restaurant serves fried yams and yucca etc. and it's really good.

hrm. i've tried a lot of different asian foods.

the strangest? super salty bamboo cooked with seaweed...mushrooms with "vegetarian jellyfish" (don't ask how they did that, i don't wanna know)..."glass" noodles...my brother, on the other hand, is not vegan and has tried:

barbecued duck feet
baby octopus
pig's ear (his wife told him, "it's an asian vegetable...i can't remember the English translation for it" to get him to eat it)

Duck feet is nice, especially with black bean sauce. Glass noodles and bamboo are cool too. Jellyfish doesn't taste of much to me, just kinda crunchy and chewy at the same time.

Call me gross but I love deep fried squid, mmmm.

Before I turned vegetarian I tried frogs legs, snails and squid. The first two were good, third too rubbery. As vegetarian, there's still a few exotic fruits that I haven't tasted and I still can't stand aubergine.

Calf brain. Pigs stomach. Various organs mashed into a sausage like thing.

Actually it's more disguisting in writing than it was to actually eat it...

YES, indeed that is some good nosh. Especially grilled, hmmm. It's the kind of thing I only have abroad anyway, so it's a real novelty.

I've had grilled/fried octopus too, that's excellent (agrh, when is my next holiday???)

I went to Switzerland last year and my friend and I decided on trying horse brain, but the next day we had moved from the slopes where the restaurant was. I'm going again this year and if I see it on any menu I'll go for it.

Anyone tried that? What's the texture/taste like?
