Emo refers to a form of punk/hardcore music that focuses more on inward sensitivity with an emphasis on getting your heart broken by a girl. What that translates into is a bunch of punk music gone all wussy and whiney on us (not to say I hate emo music, there are some real stellar emo bands... but when it's done poorly, it's embarrassing). Examples of this is Jimmy Eat World.

(My apologies if you already know what emo music is, just disregard if this is the case)

Ergo... an emo photo is where you try and look as heartbroken/tortured/wussy as possible. These photos always look like you took them yourself (because emo kids are too lonely to have someone take photos for them ;)) and if you take the photo in front of a mirror... all the better! Even more points are awarded if you got some thick horn-rimmed glasses too (a la Rivers Cuomo from Weezer). ;)

Emo lyrics are deeply personal, usually either free-associative poetry or intimate confessionals. Reading the instructions always helps I guess! I fit nicely into the male mould and generally ignore any kind of instructions. I bought a 6m pixel samsung camera reduced from £235 to £99.......I know how to take a basic pic but thats it!! What a waste.

Reading the instructions always helps I guess! I fit nicely into the male mould and generally ignore any kind of instructions. I bought a 6m pixel samsung camera reduced from £235 to £99.......I know how to take a basic pic but thats it!! What a waste.
I've been inspired to learn though after seeing the pics you took of the pub in Ireland where it was all black and white apart from the red bits - like Schindlers List
omgosh! what a very nice thing to say. how lovely to know that someone notices a quality in your pictures! cheers for that!
yeah, read the instructions! i learnt how to do so much more cool shit - like discover the mycolour function on my camera which produced the irish pub pics, and the ones with me and the strawberries/grapes. gotta love it. cheesy but great.
doing things in sepia, and with different white balance settings, and different.. different things is always good. try it out!
