you folks there, next time you hear a democrat (or republican) tell you that you dont pay enough in taxes, think about this

govt's role is to create an environment that supports business growth, not finance it through grants, etc.....

So you are for repealing the emancipation proclamation then?

that had no effect on the CSA since they had already left the union........

would have been like Lincoln signing a law to free slaves in Canada...

Don't dodge the question. Are you, or are you not, in favour of reinstituting slavery?

We don't pay enough taxes? Or spending like this puts us in the hole? Both sides of the aisle do this pork B.S. but then again, 250 jobs. Thats 250 jobs.

I didn't dodge your question. You asked if I favored the Emancipation Proclamation. At the time it was done, the states which allowed slavery had already suceded from the union, the CSA, so the Eman Proc was basically a moot point. Of course slavery should have been abolished, but the EP was just a gesture of good will.

Or are you asking this in today's terms?

So you support govt doling out funds just for the purpose of creating jobs? Hell, let govt give me some money to create jobs then. I would hire a nanny, a full time house cleaner, a gardener, etc......vs doing it all myself (with the help of my wife)

Moot? So as long as everyone is against rape.. there is no need to make a law? Or in this case a "proclamation".
Why make a statement, them negroes are "free" here anyways. That is like saying why have the civil rights movement..why protect the rights that are already there.

I didn't realise "Are you, or are you not, in favour of reinstituting slavery?" was considered archaic language.

Of course slavery should have been abolished

govt's role is to create an environment that supports business growth

The government abolishing slavery was the antithesis of creating an environment that supports business growth. Slavery is one of the most cost-effective labour forces you can have.

So, saying you are in favour of abolishing slavery is undermining your point.

What you meant to say is "government's role is to stop asshats fucking over other people in search of a buck" - something that is made easier by consistant and hard-hitting legislation, not backing off and letting companies sort out whatever ethics they prefer to abide by.
