I still gotta say MCA has the coolest name out of all 3. Even tho Mike D really isn't anything special. But for some reason just because it's Mike D, it sounds awesome, lol.
Just like if I called myself Bobby R, LOL. That would sound totally lame. *sigh* I just love how the Beastie Boys can turn something lame into something completley awesome.
The King AdRock is a cool name too. But I gotta go with MCA because he's also got the coolest voice out of all 3 and my favorite Beastie Boys :D

well the D is for drakes, and if you say King Adrock the it might make more since.
basically RUN DMC came up with the title and then ADDY kinda spoofed it with his name being adam and all, see back in the day it was a big deal that rap would last so they had to give themselves titles, and what better way to do it thanto challenge Elvis aka the king of Rock. later on when raop was doing well it was redundent to call yourself teh king of rap, but the fresh prince and mc hammer didnt really battle it out to steal prince character, but oh well. you know like michael jackson made MTV call him the King of POP, and then he went out and married Presleys daughter, and bought the beatles.
i guess LL has the best JEWelery, and quite possibly the crown.
who do you think should be the "KING OF RAP"?

Yea, if your a wedding dj, your "mc" is the master of cerimonies but in the hip hop world, its plain ol "MIC CONTROLLER". I have heard it in a million rap songs.
I dont ever recall hearing rappers calling themselves "masters of cerimonies" in thier songs. why? because theyre "mic controllers."

you said you havent heard of any rappers using the term "master of ceremonies"

so how do you explain it??
how about this, people, maybe no one is wrong and it means whatever each individual rapper wants it to mean...
obviously, unless GUIDO KING hangs out with MCA we will never be able to "prove" anything.

At first I heard/ thought it was MC8. Like denoted as... infinite, choice of. Then upon finding out it was A almost immediately thereafter, it's denotion was like, straight up right from the beginning. But, you know, that's just like subtext connotation at this point. You can all derive your own, however... That's what it means, I think.
The degree of truth to it all you enable yourself to give in terms of distilled reality, is recipricol to the truth/ mental wealth you get by let's say, osmosis, mental wherewithal and gestalt experience... Individually, there is ultimately only one way to be true to your paradigm/ derivitive of it..all like. It's funny how... huh. So you really have to be more noble to the due pragmatics... like mankind... PBS really oughtta let you know better.
And of course all electronic equitment and business comes into play as well.. mcarecords, rca... So it could just be the tightest noble elemental (generic) title there is.. EHMMM... C? And you can generally trust it like that and just let it be just that, which is nice, let's say especially if you have some kind of O.C.D.... which I find is actually always in order...
If not, then chill and be down with it anyway... just 'cause B, it's 1/3 of the Beatsie Boys, and that means, well, all the best to you figuring it out, for real!!!
That's my $.02 at least. In no uncertain terms, they've come the longest way in the shortest..., I only hope mainstream can pick up the while and make it worth... sounder than a pound of whatever really.. for ever 'n' ever.... All depends on where ya start. What's in your wallet? Is it the feigned Federal Reserve counterfeit? Or is your monetary spent well for real?
Ok alright already, I digress.
Don't you love my posts. They almost never get the chance, I swear. And Bush is president. What can I say. Oh say can you MC by the dawns early light. I'm laughing now. But seriously. What's up with it all.
"...You gotta get up awful early to fool Mr. Furley.... and you could stick your head in the toilet, give yourself a swirley. Listen up biters. Go, please stop while I'm politickin' at.... Believe what ya heard when you talk.... What the phone booth. Word to hair mousse. You're on the corner and you're selling a hog's tooth. Don't mean to dis but I gotta point out...." -OH WORD?
PS. Damn. Paris Hilton baby phat cell phone pop ups. A show where she get's her shit together and learns how to come correct every week you'ld think would almost be fultile, as she'd sadly front on having it, but how long until people stop promoting her left to her own device? Acting like money is a cure all for that type of act while the nation is fenced and scammed. Someone show her the way please. Someone show the nation please... Enable her to turn her shit around right, for everyone's sake. Like who doesn't get it already? Fucking suckers. For one of the wealthiest families in America to have children like that making huge ripples in the mainstream.... what a shame. Why don't they ever look it up? Are people really that dulled down retarded? This country/ world needs alot of attention if it's ever going to live up to it's most definite and reasonable potential. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHHHHH
Now I'm really out. Peace if you got it.

No, Im not wrong. Name one beastie boys song that Yauch says "MC STANDS FOR MIC CONTROLLER".
Name one.
go ahead.
prove me wrong. :)
now you are starting to confuse yourself. i thought you were arguing FOR MIC CONTROLLER. the problem is, you cant even name one beastie boys song that says either MASTER OF CEREMONIES or MIC CONTROLLER.
you really are wasting your time here, there IS NO DEFINITE ANSWER.
your explanation is not the end all be all of hip-hop terms...
as stated previously in this thread, plenty of rappers have used the term loosely over the years, and if you looked up urban slang and hip-hop terms, you find arguments for BOTH.
you just cant sit here and say you are right just because you work at FEVER RECORDS...
was there a day in hip hop history when there was an official announcemnet regarding the meaning of MC??
no
it started as Master of Ceremonies, today people use it to mean whatever the fuck they want it to mean...
Adam Yauch is probably reading this and laughing at the serious tone in which you guys argue over the abbreviation of his fucking name

that just shows how much of a loser you are. you try to pass off the knowledge that others might have as your own. but as you keep on talking its easy to see that you dont know shit. you should stick to the worst music genre in the world, which is what Fever records deals with, freestlye bullshit. I'm sure you know a lot about that music. it would make sense a bullshit asshole like yourself knowing bullshit music like freestyle which is nothing but a bunch of greasy haired guys and girls who look like hookers from jersey.

As Any Fule Kno, MCA standards for "Micro-Channel Architecture" - a 32-bit graphics bus that replaced ISA and was superceded by VL (Vesa-Local) Bus, and later PCI (then AGP, and now PCI-E).
Micro-Channel Architecture showed a lot of potential (having bus mastering and PnP capabilities way before the Gates Engine <tm> decided to adopt them) but fell foul of IBM's heavy-fisted corporate policies at that time.
You may now bask in the glory and wisdom of the guru.

wow. you're the exact replica of Arsenio Hall sucking Eddie Murphy's dick. Its funny how you latch on and ride the coattails of others every chance you get. you try to dismiss a meaning of emcee,,even though there are a million of references to "master of ceremonies" in recent music by millions of rappers,, and what do you do to back up your point? "oh i know sal bando or whatver his name is therefore i think i know shit and i'm right" that is all you do in every response "i know sal bando, i give him back rubs, fever records blah, blah, blah" you truly think knowing someone makes you some kind of expert when its obvious that you really dont know much.
you think rappers no longer maker references to "master of ceremonies"
you thought "midnight marauders" was a group and didnt know it was a a tribe called quest album.
thats all you do,,, fever records, fever records, fever records. maybe fever records is big in your little world but sorry they are nothing. there are a billion record labels who put out better music than fever records. you still think fever records has the little fame it had like 20 years ago. even back then they werent a major player
I'm sure in the 90's you were frequently called a herb

I've been roaming this forum for a while. Had to join, and this is my first post. This thread HAS been entertaining. I agree that, taking into account the question that started it, it's amazing that it has gone on this long.
It would be great if we got word from the man himself and he said that it meant absolutely nothing close to anything anyone has mentioned. Just so we could ALL have a good laugh after all these months.
I DO agree with Guido, though.
For people who don't know where 'mc' ORIGINALLY came from.... A master of ceremonies (mc) is a person who directs or is the host of any type of entertainment venue. Example: Chris Rock was the MC of the 2005 Academy Awards.
'MC' was a PERFECT term for rappers to take hold of. When they would set-up on a street corner or on a stage they were in control.
Yes, there are many times that rap and hip-hop artists have used the actual term "master of ceremonies" in their lyric. But "mic control" DID become the 'slang' for master of ceremonies a good 20+ years ago.
I didn't post to try to get into an argument with anyone, so if anyone tries to get into it with me, don't bother. I won't respond. I just wanted to state some facts.

The AdRock question is maybe a baffling one (especially if you know what his first name is!). But hey, keep in mind that a lot of the fans here were born AFTER Paul's Boutique was realeased. That's SORT-OF like me being born around the time of Zeppelin's 2nd release. I didn't know who Bonham was until 3 years after he died.

"that when ya lost" - Souls Of Mischief
too bad that every definition you put up has mic controller after it has stated master of ceremonies. you just made yourself look like a stupid idiot. How the hell are you gonna try and prove that it doesnt mean master of ceremonies meanwhile the very things you reference and use as evidence states master of ceremonies everywhere. your stupidity levels have just been raised
1. MC link send redefine 207 up, 12 down
Short for master of ceremonies or mic controller
Master of Ceremonies or Microphone Controller. A rapper who is either the host of an event,,,
An MC—also spelled "emcee"—is a rapper who performs for crowds.[2] MC primarily stands for Master of Ceremonies, but has also been said to stand for "Move the Crowd" and "Mic Controller."
Im impressed at your choice of words. It just proveshow much education you lack.
It just proveshow much education you lack
your stupidity levels have just been raised even higher... are you gonna keep embarrassing yourself?
If you pay attention to the krs-1 interview, he gave the ORIGINAL MEANING, not the hip hop meaning.
you have no comprehension ability. your revisionist skills are out of this world i'll give you that. "MC, master of ceremonies or as rakim said, move the crowd" that is all he said but you want to make shit up so that you dont look like a complete ass, I can see how you dont want to look like an ass but come on, you dont have to make shit up by trying to reinterpret what he said just to not embarrass yourself.
yea, I work for a corny record label. the label is so corny that the beasties gave them props for being the first club to put the beastie boys on a stage. Cheese, when will you ever learn? I pity you. perhaps you should move out of the slums of brooklyn and seek a better place to live?.
"thats when ya lost" - Souls of Mischief,,,,,,,,,,,, yet again
the success and popularity of one entity doesnt equal the success and popularity of another. The fever club and fever records arent the same thing. since you are stupid i will explain it, the fever club got props back in the day for being a club that people enjoyed. fever records only shares the word "fever" and the owner. Again I will have to say just because I am making you look foolish is no need to lie just to not make yourself look less dumb, you will look dumb regardless so dont lie. LIE: "beasties gave them props for being the first club to put the beastie boys on a stage" i will assume you like the beastie boys, therefore you know they were a punk band and played shows as a punk band and hit the stage at punk venues before they ever hit the stage at fever look, i even took a page from your book and used the bold option to try and seem important. i believe they were at the Danceteria before they were at the fever also so stop lying.
people like eminem not his crew d12, people like public enemy not the crew young black teenagers, people like ice cube not his crew the lynch mob, people like nas not the bravehearts, people like shit from quentin tarantino not "quentin tarantino presents", people like shit from martin scorcese not "martin scorcese presents", PEOPLE LIKED THE FEVER CLUB NOT FEVER RECORDS.
lets not forget that you didnt even know the fever was a real club,, i'm sure theres others here who might remember the thread where you thought the fever club was made up just for the movie "krush groove", meanwhile you were working at fever records and didnt know.. dont think people forgot :)
Even in your lying words you said, the beasties gave props to the club not fever records. you cant even win when you're lying, what a joke. I am surprised you havent tried to revise MCA's lyrics yet to "like an MC at fever record's offices in the dj booth"
so now i got you at your keyboard all mad and upset after embarrassing you that you feel you have to dis Brooklyn, "that when ya lost" - Souls of Mischief,,,,, thats when you really, really, lost trying to dis Brooklyn. whats really funny is that you're trying to dis Brooklyn yet you are from long island. but whatever i'm not gonna dis long island
.The real definition of MC is Master of Ceremony but alot of rappers use Microphone Controller or something similar.
its nice to see you singing a new tune after finally after embarrassing yourself. you see doing a little research instead of acting like you know what you're talking about is helpful you could've saved yourself the embarrassment.

the fact that i get you all mad and upset, frustrated and flustered, by showing you right from wrong, fact from fiction is evident by your silly bahahahahas, that you feel you have to capitalize, your bold option usage, and underline option usage.
I never said it didnt mean "master of cerimonies", you moron. I just maintained the fact that it was called "mic controller" in hip hop where you kept blabbing about how it wasnt. I showed you proof and now you have shit on your face. how does it feel, cheese? I bet it smells good.
please. you tryed to come off as mr. hip-hop knowledgeable by saying no one in hip-hop says master of cermonies anymore. you saw the clip where krs-one referred to it as that(did you look him up? i know you wouldnt know anything about him), i gave the quote from midnight marauders(which you didnt know was the classic album from a tribe called quest) that talks about master of ceremonies. since you dont know hip-hop music you wouldnt know the countless songs where rappers refer to it as master of ceremonies. so you tried to do research to prove yourself right but you kept on coming across "master of ceremonies",, go ahead and sing that change of tune buddy.
Listen, dont try and explain THE FEVER to me. First off, there was the DISCO FEVER. that was the club Sal owned. It was shut down in 1985. Russ Simmons told sal to start his dance label and Russ soon added the Fever as the dance division on DEF JAM RECORDS.
you wouldnt think I have to being that you work for that miniscule label.
First off, there was the DISCO FEVER. that was the club Sal owned. It was shut down in 1985. Russ Simmons told sal to start his dance label and Russ soon added the Fever as the dance division on DEF JAM RECORDS.
its good to see that you now know that the fever was an actual club. good job.
i will tell you what......you should pick up Sal's autobiography when it's released. Maybe you will actually learn something about hip-hop.
BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Now that will be a new york times best seller, i cant even front cuz everyone in the world wants to know everything about sal of fever records. I think this book will surpass the previous records for money earned from sales, most copies sold in the first day of its release, number of consecutive weeks at #1 of the NY times best seller list, and most consecutive weeks selling at least a million copies. I dont want to jinx it but I will go as so far to say that not only will oprah select this book for her book club but that it will also win a pulitzer prize as well as a nobel prize in all categories, even chemistry.
Yo! i better reserve my copy for this work of art right now, for real. Damn why did sal whateverhisnameis put us through pain all these years but not releasing his book sooner.. thank the lord and heavens that its finally gonna arrive. sal's autobiography,, yo! the waiting list is already 200 million deep.
I mean, everyone is leaving. all you have left there are russians. the italians left. the ricans left. you can live with the russians. But try and diss long island. go ahead. what will you say about it? that were not all cluttered up like a bunch of lab rats like you guys in brooklyn? we have no crime? go ahead......I want to hear it. I always wanted to hear what people living in the slums have to say about long island.
oh boy,, i see i have to waste time by proving you wrong again, i have to show your lies again.. From this point on i'm gonna refer to you as fox news channel cuz all you do is lie and mislead.
The last census count had 213,025 puerto ricans in Brooklyn, and 74,796 in long island, and to call out your lie there isnt a mass exodus of puerto ricans heading to long island.
Brooklyn has neighborhoods like Dyker Heights and Bensonhurst full of italians who havent left. long island doesnt have any italian neighborhoods that can compare to those..
and now i have to play spokesperson for Brooklyn,,,, We here in New York City know that this is the place where everyone wants to be, you arent from New York City, you are from that place where everyone wishes and tries hard to make themselves seem like they're from New York City. Brooklyn has the neighborhoods that every New Yorker wants to live in, all the Manhattan people are moving out of there and heading to Brooklyn to neighborhoods like Brooklyn Heights, Park Slope, Cobble Hill, DUMBO, Williamsburg, Boerum Hill. even celebrities are making the move - michelle williams and heath ledger, jennifer connolly, and long time residents paul giamatti, john turturro, Steve Buscemi.
as for long island having no crime?? thats funny because all gangs with an ounce of notoriety have a formidible prescence on that awful region known as long island
"All of the nationally known gangs now exist on Long Island, where gang membership numbers reach as high as 6,000 to 10,000." -- Fight Crime: Invest in Kids News Release
nice place you got there.
long island is nothing but a shithole suburb with no culture or identity of its own that it has to try and pretend that its a part of New York City. Having fun on long island consists of going bowling 5 times a week,,, oh you crazy, crazy kids. Every one from new york city knows that long island people are straight up losers who wish they were from NYC.
dissing Brooklyn, you are funny
when hip hop was taking its roots in society, they decided to take normal words and make them "their own" with new meanings. "masters of cerimonies" was so old that it reminded many of the "disco" years so that, along with a mess of other words, were soon given new definations. masters of cerimonies was too "white"
they thought "master of cerimonies" was usless because at times, there were dozens of rappers up on stage and they couldnt all be "master or cerimonies"
thats what I said.
yes i know thats what you said, "they thought "master of ceremonies was useless" they thought it was useless yet to this day they still refer to it as master of ceremonies. idiot, even your evidence has master of ceremonies and nothing next to it says that the term is now useless, which makes your whole logic wrong which is what i keep saying.
I showed krs one refering to it as master of cermonies and like i said already i gave you the tribe called quest quote.. its nice how you dont acknowledge it when i point out your stupidity like not knowing fever was a club, like thinking midnight marauders was a group.
now, look at what cheese said:
The title emcee means master of ceremonies. some people who emcee don't know what this term means,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
come on, cheese. what do you have to say about that? are you going to say you never said that, now? BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
lol,, you are such a stupid idiot. yes i am going to say that i never said that, in fact it was a tribe called quest who said it, i was quoting them. go back to doing your research and find out who a tribe called quest was, in fact just try to learn on hip-hop in general. i'll try to up;oad the mp3 where its said then maybe you'll realize its not useless and people still use it.
tribe called quest said it in midnight marauders(i hope by now you know thats not a group) but wait you said no one uses that anymore????they thought "master of cerimonies" was usless because at times, there were dozens of rappers up on stage and they couldnt all be "master or cerimonies".
the classic group tribe called quest uses it, the classic artist krs one uses it(both of who are blackmasters of cerimonies was too "white" of a meaning but wait you obviously know everything about hip-hop so you cant be wrong, right? but of course you can, just like how you lie and and are always wrong.
dickhead.
