There's nothing that can be done, I guess, but it's a slap in the face to read stuff like this. Here's the opening paragraphs from TNYT and here's the link.

http://www.nytimes.com/2005/01/23/fashion/23wash.html?8hpib

AFTER the Constitution Ball and the Commander in Chief Ball, after all the official black-tie parties wound down around midnight on Inauguration Day, members of a young Republican crowd scarcely old enough to remember the Reagan years were still looking for excitement. Naturally, they headed to a basement bar in Georgetown that has become an unofficial clubhouse for the Jenna and Barbara Bush generation.

At that bar, Smith Point, these refugees in cummerbunds and gowns shimmied to a D.J. playing the Beastie Boys and slurped vodka shots poured down an ice-sculpture luge. And they entertained rumors that the twins themselves would be stopping by following their official appearances.

Do the math. The Beastie didn't just turn left on TT5B. To know that Repugnicants are celebrating the inauguration of king dumb fuck to the sounds of a protest group is ironic.

Actually 51% aren't Republican, that's just how many voted that way in the presidential election. That's not how many are actually part of the party. 30% of voters are registered Republican, 33% are registered Democrat, and the other 37% are registered with a "third party" or are independent. The Republicans have simply done a much better job of getting out the vote the past two presidential elections than the Democrats have.

In defense of Running_Beastie, there is a pretty big difference between being Republican and voting Republican. You have no idea how many people I've seen say "Like, I'm hate both, but I'm gonna vote for Bush, because he like is the president. But they both suck. Totally."

*edit before a reply forces me to edit* That was just an example. I realize that does not represent all of the people who voted Republican.

While on the subject of the inauguration, I can't help but to think of a quote by Bright Eyes' Conor Oberst..."Voting for Bush is like shitting in your own bed."

But, yeah, Beastie Boys. I like 'em. And other stuff that's relevant in this forum.....
