I've been messing around with a Fruity loops Demo, and I decided to try to do a remix. But i was wondering if there is any way that once you import the acappella in (I’m doing Sure Shot) that you can split it up so its easier to work with the song in parts besides having it start at the beginning of a pattern and have it play through out the whole song. I dunno if I did a good job explaining what I’m trying to do, but it just wanna try simplify trying to do the remix. Hey dude, I know exactly what you are talking about. I typically use FL to build beats and ACID to compile the beat and the accapella together. You can download a demo of ACID XPRESS here (http://www.acidplanet.com/tools) Make sure your bmp is set correctly in FL before you export. This will save you a lot of time later in ACID. Sure shot is 97.9 bpm.

The Fruityloops edition is limited. What you need is the FL Studio Producer Edition (I think there's a demo of that too). Basically, this lets you imports any size audio clips which you can then sequence in the audio playlist accordingly. There is a very handy slice tool (select the scalpel icon at top left), this allows you to slice an audio clip into as many pieces as you see fit.
Other features found in FL Studio PE that are handy for remixing are the auto-time stretching, "tap" for bpm and automation clips.
Here's (http://www.hoolak.com/images/fl_beast.jpg) a link to an image of my Shake Your Rump mix, it shows the audio and automation clips at the bottom. What was a long sample featuring the entire 3rd verses is now sliced into 4 sections.

thanks a lot that helps. Exactly what i wanted to know. I only have the Demo so i can only save MP3 but i can't go back and edit it. But its still fun to mess around with. I did one remix of sure shot but the vocals and the beat is a little off at times, and i think it may be the BPM but i had it set at 97.9, so i'm not rally sure. Also the acapella version that i had started the vocals later (b/c there is a intro in the song) which was kinda hard to get everything to be timed right.

I need help with FL, I made a cool set of samples and brought them into FL, how do I save it as a template?
I got Producer Edition v 4.5.1

lo Zapster,
To save your current project as a template, choose to "save as" and make sure you save inside the "Templates" folder in the FL Studio directory. When you have done that you should see a quick launch to your new template in the FILE > TEMPLATES menu of the FL interface.
Hope that helps ;)

I am deeply scared of fruit loops. I opened up FL4 and played with it a bit and it seems extraordinarily complex. For some reason I'm quite comfy with Acid and SF, but FL seems rather daunthing. That being said, if i took the hours necessary to learn it {manual?} then I would probably have more creative sounding mixes rather than relying strictly on samples. But that being said I had trouble getting it hooked up with my Oxygen8 synth.....

I know what you mean. About 5 years ago (maybe more, maybe less), I loaded up FL, and minutes later I had pooped my pantaloons :)
I stayed away for a few months. I had a friend who kept saying "you gotta try it". So, one day I sat through some tutorials and had a little look at the Help files... soon enough I was rolling. From then on, I've been learning something new from it ever since. It is deep.. but it can be used simply too.
My friend has an M-Audio Oxygen linked up to FL. It should show up in the OPTIONS > MIDI SETTINGS > Controller box.
My advice is, stick with what you know... if you find you cannot accomplish something with what you are using or hitting limitations, then it might be time to look elsewhere. Whatever you choose, you will no doubt have to delve into the help files/instructions. Just practice and don't let the "system" beat you! :D
