There was an older Aussie looking guy with a white shirt, he was with you, right? I saw all the people you guys seemed to be hanging around with.

Don't know if you saw me, I was probably to your right, I was wearing a red shirt that had white Asian dragon designs, and a red cap that I had on backwards for a while. I was also wearing orange ear plugs (I hate wearing them but I got to watch my hearing).

Ha, I noticed you especially cause I remember in another thread you wrote:

I'm wearing my John Safran's Music Jamboree t-shirt. I'm also considering bringing a sign reading "What's in You?".

When I saw you I remembered that post and wondered if it was you.

You mean waiting in line since 4.00 PM? I wasn't waiting that long, I probably lined up at around 6.30. I arrived earlier and was hanging around the place though, but I hit the pub first. I'm not sure if I saw you or not, I noticed a few girls in white shirts.

that concert was so awesome! beastie boys really know how to rock the crowd. By the end of the night I was all bruised coz people next to me were dancing so hard. It was so good coz they played songs from all their album, even Licensed To Ill and when they did the intrumentals from Check Your Head and Ill Communication and changed into suits with the whole jazz lounge thing, that was so cool although my friend didn't like that part. I was at the front on the left and I dressed for the pageant and got laughed at on the way coz I caught public transport but it was totally worth it coz when adrock was looking for people who were dressed to impress he pointed at me out and he smiled :D :D

I had the best time they were amazing. I was against the baracade in front of the right hand speaker stack and could feel every beat go right thru me. I was wearing a black and purple dinosour hoody and was interviewed for the big screen too. When they played it back was really freaky hearing my own voice coming out of the speakers. omg do I really sound like that :p

TOTALLY THE BEST SHOW EVER!!!!

They completely exceeded all my expectations (which was pretty hard to do cos my expectations were high to begin with!)

I was so surprised (in a really good way) when they opened with Egg Man - that totally rocked :)

I was on the screen too with my friend - we were the first ones on there. That was very surreal. We got to ask them a question at the Channel V interview as well - my friend taped it and I've watched it back now and there's this embarrassing part where I laughed in a really stupid way but I was just soooooo excited to be meeting (sort of) the guys that I'm actually kinda surprised that was the only embarrassing thing I did :p

Kick ass show last friday!

For all you guys at the show, im wondering if anyone knows the brand of the trucker caps the guys were wearing on the night?

Huggz
01-30-2005, 04:31 AM
@ Rileigh

We bought those blank shirts from General Pants Co and bought Iron on Letters from there aswell and we just ironed them on (very well :D) and There You Go.
By The Way what were you wearin who who were you with?

@ AMeg, I heard those hats were made out of snake skin, i may be wrong though?

Standing up the front and looking back at the boys during Intergalactic was bizzare, people were going off.
Everything about the show was just awesome.

Thanks! I really would have liked to dress up more (like more in the spirit of the pageant and go as more of a character or something) but it was really hard to figure out something to wear that would still be appropriate for being in the mosh! It would've been cool to go as the devilled egg, hehe. But not very conducive to being in a sweaty, crowded mosh :p

Yeah, it is a bummer that we didn't get to talk. Next time for sure (because there WILL be a next time!!!)

get over to melbourne and do the side show here in wednesday (y)(y)

i think any effort at all dressing up for the pageant is good enough. i first thought the mike d shirt had the "mike d with the rump shakin' action" on it, but i was wrong. i guess that would have been too long to have on a tshirt.

Hi guys,
I've been thinking about this message board since last friday when it was mentioned at the concert so i finally joined!
It was such an awesome night and reading your posts I saw some of you guys too (namely that guy in the john saffran t looking completely rooted and sweaty at the end of the night).
I was so impressed by their enthusiasm and effort. I came to the conclusion that the boys must be serious perfectionists.
Mike D made me laugh so much. I swear, he is a 40 year old in the body of a teenager. He is so gangly! (but still seriously cool)
They seemed to have so much more energy and enthusiasm than their last tour, I am seriously impressed.

I think the three B-Boy shows I've been to go close to best of the year. And all 3 have been in the first half. Anyway, is there hope in getting Sydney or any on this tour on DVD. I loved this show and I don't wanna let go!!! :)

theres a live dvd coming out... eventually, but not of the australian leg.

other than that, channel V has the "big day in" which is 48 hours of bdo coverage and im sure the beastie boys will get some airplay, hopefully the sydney show, as i was looking down the barrel of the camera quite a few times as he shot from behind the boys into the crowd :p

I'll let you know if I'm coming and what I'll be wearing so we can meet up! Fingers crossed...

I am so disappointed. I'd really got my hopes up about going, too. Damn, I so should've organised it earlier. I guess I'll just have to wait until next time they're out here (god I hope they come back!)

Well, I hope it's a fabulous show tomorrow (which I have no doubt it will be, especially if the Sydney show was any indication). Have a brilliant time tpk and minton, and whoever else is going. I'll just go and quietly sob into my pillow now and wail about the injustices of life...

PS. Hey tpk and James B, how are you liking the land of OZ so far? (Minton I'm not asking you since you are a fellow Aussie!!) Have you been here before? What have you been getting up to in your spare time while you've been here?

What have you been getting up to in your spare time while you've been here?i think i kind of like it. first of all it's hot which is always a good good thing and one of the most important sides. and it's on the other side of the world from sweden which is also nice. but there aren't enough palm trees and it's a bit too hilly in the cities. :o so far i've seen quite a lot of sydney and i walked over the bridge and stuff like that. otherwise i've been at go kart tracks, watched movies, walked around the cities, watched fish swim around and shit like that. it's nice definitely!

God damn it. I explained this already, but I'm going to do it again to make it clear for everyone. We have plenty of palm trees in Australia, if you look in the right places (i.e. Queensland state). What you're saying is you're not seeing any in the city. Do you walk down the street in NYC and see palm trees everywhere? No, you don't. So it's not going to happen in Melbourne or Sydney.

Sheesh.

Those two cities have different climates. Plus Sydney is way denser, so there is less room for that kind of thing.

Plus Sydney is way denser, so there is less room for that kind of thing.i would have to disagree on that one. the density has nothing to do with it. san diego then. that's like sydney. i personally think the climate seems pretty equally except it's a bit warmer in sydney during their summer and maybe a few degrees colder during their winter. but still. okay i win.

Oops, I didn't meant to start an argument :o

I'm glad you've been liking Australia so far though tpk (apart from the palm tree thing ;) )
You might find that there are palm trees around the northern beaches of Sydney and around beachy areas in general... although of course you're not in Sydney anymore so you won't get to see them (this time around)!

By the end of the Australian tour you probably will have seen more of the country than I have - I've never been to Adelaide or Perth.

I would love to go to Sweden one day, and Europe in general. I have a friend who lived in Sweden for a couple of years and she said it was great  I'm half Estonian and would really like to visit there someday too. Have you ever been to Estonia tpk?

If you're wanting to find rare and collectible CDs and that sort of thing I would highly recommend Red Eye Records and Egg Records in Sydney.

Go to the website for Red Eye Records (www.redeye.com.au/) for store addresses etc. You can also browse their catalogue online and buy stuff online too.

The website for Egg Records seems to be www.woofbyte.com.au/tuition/john/main.html

I've picked up a few gems from these stores so they are worth checking out, in my opinion. Otherwise there are the mainstream stores like HMV and Sanity. Fish is pretty good - you'll find some quirkier stuff in there than HMV or Sanity most of the time.

When are you coming over to Australia?

My girlfriend's uncle owns property and there's a house or something on Bondi rd. which he will let us stay in. However if tourists want to rent it we have to stay with him and his four rugby mad sons.

As I say, we are staying in Sydney but will be taken to other places by her uncle, he immigrated about 20 years ago.

Is there plenty to do?

Also I am looking forward to being in Australia when England hammer you in the Ashes

I was at that show and BDO and both blew me away!

Although the sound wasnt as good at the hordern show, it was a bit soft and muffled, while BDO was clear and in-your-face like.

Although Hordern was def a more rocking set. and i was right up front!

Gigs to remember

first time poster...... please excuse the gushing..... :D

but i still get chills and bumps of excitement when i think of this gig!

i'm all of 5 feet tall, and was standing in the crowd about 5 metres from the stage (in the middle, towards the right) at the start of concert, but was getting smashed about (in a non violent context) by the super excited crowd, there were legs and arms a-flailing! understandable tho, as eggman was what they started with! and as much as wished to be in the thick of things, after getting the third elbow to my head, i retreated to the stands, telling my friends i'd see them later.

found a choice spot tho! was on the right hand side, half way up the stands, at the very front of the stage! i had the really good view (between a speaker/lighting rig? and a great big f*** off pole!) of all 3 of them and mmm, AND i had all the space to move, groove and dance away to my hearts content!

absolutely loved. loved. loved. the instrumental interlude.

i heart mix master mike.
i heart mike d.
i heart mca.
but, i heart. heart. heart. adrock.

best.show.ever.

Yeah, I must agree...it was the best show I've been to! They had so much energy and panache, and played such a juice selection of tracks. And Mix Master Mike was legendary :D

I saw them at the BDO as well, which was sweet cos a kindly security guard let us climb over the barrier into the front section. The only downside was I went too hard at Big Day and fucked up my neck...so it was pretty painful being in the thick of the mosh at the hordern!! Hardcore!! :p

I tried to dress for the pageant but unfortunately my efforts were unrecognised. Didn't go all the way out, just wore an old school shirt (vintage 1986) so I could be "old school." Wanted to hang around at the end to attempt the meet and greet, but by that stage I was in a fair bit of pain so I left to get some sleep. Did anyone get to meet them after the show??
