yes, there are tons of threads that are similar, but none really matched my recent aquisitions (except for the xmas stuff i received from bobby and today from santa, which i posted in the santa thread). this thread is for anything you've acquired and want to share, no matter what it is or how you got it.

bobby sent me this for my birthday (it's my most favorite scent ever)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v116/Bethofcourse/boblogIII.jpg
bobby left this shirt for me because it shrunk due to an unfortunate laundry incident

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v116/Bethofcourse/heldforransom.jpg
bobby forgot to pack his belt, so i am now holding it for ransom (one of my xmas gifts to him was a new belt that he wanted). i like it so much, i may not give it back even after the ransom is paid. ;)

this is a gift that is en route, purchased for me because a dear friend wanted to congratulate me for getting sworn in as an attorney.

Is it a wierd strap like it goes around your waist and over the shoulders? I've got a bag like that, never wear it thoug. True what you were saying about a girl never having enough :D

No, It's just a weird little strap that you have to attach yourself, and it's really short and in the centre so you have to wear it over 1 shoulder...
Actually it doesn't look that weird, but it's more purse-y than other bags I've got.

Yeah, apparently it's the most breakable Nokia out and they've since stopped selling them over here, and stopped making flip-phones, apart from the newest one.

I was advised by every phone sellsman in town not to buy it.

It's their only album. Its fucking class. Think Green DAy with less guitar distortion meets Devo with more guitars. It makes sence, because 3/5ths of the band is Green Day, even though they deny it.

He called on my actual birthday (the actual date of which he got right). I picked up the phone and heard about 20 guys singing happy birthday. He got his end of the dorm to call and sing that. It was hysterical because they were obviously on something.

the DVD is alright, some of the material is on other Clash DVDs (The Essential..., Westway to the World), but a lot of it is orignal.

The demos (vanilla tapes) are what really sell the thing. some of the songs are totally different, and there are other songs that didn't make the album. It's a good buy. (y)

"the ecosphere works on energy, actually low energy. the ecosphere is a small biological battery, storing light energy converted biochemically. food cannot be produced for the shrimp if the system is starved for light. light, together with carbon dioxide in the water, enables the algae to produce oxygen. the shrimp breathe the oxygen in the water and nibble on the algae and bacteria. bacteria break down the animal waste into nutrients, which the algae again utilize. the shrimp, and bacteria, also give off carbon dioxide that the algae use to produce oxygen. temperature too affects the health of the ecosphere. keeping the temperature consistent will enhance the viability."

I think my favorite Tom Robbins is Jitterbug Perfume. Skinny Legs and All is great too. I've had no patience for his more recent books though.

Someone else recommended that I start with Skinny Legs and All but I have to go with my gut instinct. I've never read any Tom Robbins before. It's like how people recommended that I read Fight Club first but I started with Palahniuk's first book, Invisible Monsters and I read on from there. I like to know there's promising work beyond what I start with, in case it doesn't live up to my expectations I can say "well there's always Jitterbug Perfume, that's supposed to be good." I always feel a bit self conscious when I say I dislike an author's or artist's more recent work. It makes me feel like an elitist or puritan or something. I mean, other people don't sound that way when they say it necessarily, I just feel that way when I say it. Some artists and writers improve over time that's for damned sure. They don't all crumble and fade under hubris and lackadaisical methods. Anyway, I don't even know which came first in Tom Robbin's publicatory life. But Paul Auster used to be a genius (read The New York Trilogy) but then his work went downhill in my opinion.

BGirl
06-15-2005, 08:24 AM
Yeah, your plan makes sense.

I don't mean to be elitist or anything, in fact I was just thinking that maybe the most recent book of his (I think that's the most recent) is good because it was mentioned on your book's cover.

My experience with Tom Robbins was that I devoured a bunch of his books at the end of college and shortly thereafter. I think in this order: Jitterbug Perfume, Still Life with Woodpecker, Even Cowgirls Get the Blues, Skinny Legs and All. I really dug all of them (some more than others). Then right after I moved to NYC I read the one newly published at the time. Expectations were high. I just remember finishing the book and disgustedly throwing it down on the bed I was sitting on. (Not a book to be tossed aside...) I was sitting at the head of the bed and it landed at the foot - I mean, I still have respect and would never damage a book like that. I was just so disappointed. But I don't know, it could have just been an off novel. I haven't been particularly interested in finding out though, is what I'm saying.

I've been wanting to re-read Skinny Legs and All for a while, maybe I will do that this summer.

Written by the founder and editor of AdBusters magazine. "Kalle Lasn, editor of Adbusters magazine, argues that America is no longer a country, but a multitrillion-dollar brand. America™ is no different from McDonald’s, Marlboro or General Motors. It’s an image "sold" not only to the citizens of the U.S.A., but to consumers worldwide. "

Sounds pretty good.

Have you talked to the suit tie man yet? I have a crush on the cutie who makes bagels and hot chocolate at the cafe in the morning around here. I talk to him but we're both shy. It's taking a long time to get anything out. He knows my name but I don't even know his. I'm enjoying having it drawn out like this. I was just kidding, I will read these books. I read all the time. I've already started The Cute and the Cool, and I'm still finishing a book on physics and one on hobos who ride the rails across the US. Happy Kitty Bunny Pony isn't a book you read so much as look at.

I wasn't kidding. I read for pleasure. I'm reading The Dancing Wu Li Masters (been reading it for a while, because I read Malcom X's autobio during) and a book called Hobo. Did you know that hobos were riding the rails in the 90s? That's what this is about.
