I've heard, and I'm not quite sure how to search for, that Tony Blair was suppose to step down from being Prime Minister and some other person was suppose to step up over a year ago? And that this new person is more along the getting out of Iraq thinking than Tony is? Is this other person the 2nd in charge of the Labour Party?

Any fill in would be great.

Thanks.

I thought Tony was taking over as the new Ronald McDonald?

Heh, the Gordon Brown - Tony Blair row has been on the boil for a while, apparently. Gordon Brown (Chancellor of the exchequer) has a lot of core labour support (In that he has more links to old-labour socialism than Tony's hard-line neo-conservative 'new Labour') and Tony apparently had a hush-hush agreement with him that he'd hand over the reigns for this general election. According to a biography of Gordon Brown, GB has lost faith in TB, because TB will be leading Labour into their third consecutive term.

In practical terms, there is not too much to choose between them, except that Brown is less messianic.
