I found came across this website that week and it's funny, yet at the same time so sad and, more importantly, so scary.

Wake up and smell the fascism (http://www.oldamericancentury.com/14pts.htm)

Yeah, we've seen these points several times.

Don't waste your energy, the right-wingers will confirm these 14 points of fascism with rule #11: "Disdain for intellectuals and the arts" as they type up a fiery tirade complete with spelling, grammatical and punctuation errors.

Bonus points given for valvano to tell people who work at Universities and Colleges: "Go get a REAL job!"

Even as they refute these points, they're only confirming them. ;)

I like your sig (y)

Cool site, too. The parallels between Republican America, Apartheid South Africa, Nazi Germany and all other Facist States are too obvious to need mentioning... but that site does it pretty well.

Gross generalizations. Just like the 14 points.

Dude, I wasn't including you in my statement.

Edit - In my experience you've tried to give an honest refute to how the U.S. wouldn't fall under these 14 points in the past.

I was more talking to the folks who are like: "Fucking liberals! Go to Luxembourg if you don't like how we do stuff!"

The dudes who confirm some sort of authoritarian fascistic line of thinking.

bullshit.

I'm aware. But, just because there's a slight correlation between Republicans who post on this board and grammatical errors, it doesn't mean Republicans are stupid as many liberal posters can barely string a coherent sentence together as well. They may have a disdain for the arts, but that has no correlation with our nation becoming fascist.

No, it's more "fascistic" than "fascist." All-out goose-stepping Hitler/Mussolini/Franco? Nope. But treading the lines. It's much more nuanced than the transparency of '30 fascism.

Take this list as "food for thought" not: "OMG, once we start gassing Jews we're gonna wear the swastika."

we all know they'd start by gassing poor people, blacks, immigrants and gays...wether they wear swastikas, i don't know, but they sure will use jesus a lot.

Look, just cause the U.S. falls under all 14 of those categories, it doesn't mean there is anything to worry about.

I wasnt supporting it, i was just saying.
Even though i agree with some of the points, i wouldnt go as far as calling this fascist america.

You're right... because there is STILL that whole whacky "democracy" thing standing in the way of Bush wanting to do whatever he wants.

HOWEVER... as I'm trying to impress upon you all, the seeds are scarily in place for a fascist regime to be in America.

Gross generalizations. Just like the 14 points.

I agree with statement above, but I also agree with this statement, Gross realities. The fact that the 14 points cause a reaction every time they are brought up on this board (4 times that I know of, with different suspects each time, me once) or on any other board, is quite telling in itself.

A lot of mileage to and fro, yet folks keep driving it. Agree or disagree, I find that one gross reality to be very telling.

What about the others?

Agreed, America is becoming more totalitarian over time, but both the Dems and the Repubs have supported the changes. We're not a 'facist' nation yet anymore than we are a 'soviet' one.

I'm waiting for the camps/gulags to be proposed before I pull out the ****.

Surely you mean the camps *on main-land America*, not Cuba (or Hawaii)?

Nevermind...here's to the comet that takes us all out.

Cheers! (y)
