What's the deal with Nigella Lawson (http://nigella.com/)? I've only recently heard of her. I had seen her cookbooks before but didn't think she was such a sensation. She's british, so that could account for her not being as well known to me as someone like Rachel Ray or... Emeril (shudder). How do you pronounce her first name anyway?

I'm not too interested in reading her recipes since most of the meals have meat in them, but apparently she has some nice philosophies on eating and food, and she does have a baking cookbook called How to Be a Domestic Goddess, which looks intriguing. Incidentally, her line of cookware is adorable.

When you said she takes sensual pleasure in her food I just thought you meant she smells it and tastes it with extra enjoyment.
Do you think she plays up her looks and sensuality so much that it overrides her legitimacy as a cook or food expert?
I mean, sex sells and it is astute of her to use her looks and a sexy approach to food, in order to make money - but at what point is it whore for publicity? Do you really think she is sacrificing her integrity? Do you think she's nothing more than a bra with a whisk?

No, no, no. Relax - she's a legitimate chef and a talented food writer. It's popular nowadays to call pretty much anything on the food channels "food porn" but it's pretty much meaningless.

food porn to me is watching a bubbling pot of spaghetti sauce or chili start to bubble... :o

Oh okay right on. I've never seen her show so I have no idea what she's like.
She sounds like the bees knees though. She has a shirt that says ENGLISH MUFFIN I think that's pretty cute.
