When my aunt very first got married, they lived on an indian reservation. She was pretty young and didnt know how to cook, so some old neighbor lady taught her. As a result, she make some awesome tex-mex type food.
3 Cups flour
1/3 cup powdered milk
3/4 teaspoon salt
3 tablespoons baking powder
warm water
something to fry in (vegetable oil, lard, whatever)
mix all the dry stuff, add just enough warm water so that its a dough, dont get it all sticky and watery. make flat roundish things out of the dough (think tortillas). Get it kinda thin, but not too thin, dont bother with rolling it out or the whole thing will just be crispy and hard
now fry them till they're nice and golden brown on the outside and nice and bready on the inside.
Now top it with whatever you want. I use chili, you could use beans, ground beef and taco type toppings, whatever. The bread is good on its own, but i wouldnt want to eat a whole lot of it, so it's probably better to top it.
While i was making this today i thought it might be good to make kind of fried ice cream with it, just pull it out of the hot oil, sprinkle on cinnimon and sugar, maybe some honey, and throw some ice cream on top.
