Just listened to the MEN, UK show and realised during RRNN MCA sings the same verse twice, the first time in the wrong place, although he never threw Adrock off, who followed. Anyone else spot that or just my sad self?

Ive checked the review and no one mentioned it there i'm sure, less im going blind, d'oh!

No, I haven't mentioned it before, but Miramanee and I have talked about it. I think I've heard them make similar mistakes a few times! Mike can't seem to get through 3 MCs without messing up the "Krispy Kremes" line - but don't jump on me, y'all, it just makes the live recordings more fun. :D
krispy kremes! I've heard him mummble his way through that a few times!

Two points here.

1. I believe Yauch did the same thing on RRNN for the Weinie Roast show. I'm sure someone can confirm or correct me.

2. I think that Horovitz changes does the most improv. Not just the words...but the delivery, pace, the style.

Horovitz always has his shit together on stage. It's impressive.

I'd be interested to know who's screwed up the most. I mean making MMM stop the beat.

I heard this one CD it might have been rockslide or something, I forget...
but it was a bootleg...
anyway, MCA messes up and forgets a line at the end of eggman,
and then throws it in in the next song out of nowhere...
pretty funny after you understand what the hell he is doing...
also, my friend saw them and said they had to start over on a song or two.
oh well.
adrock does modify and play with his lyrics alot...
I like it when he does that thing on pass the mic, where he goes
"nowwhatchagonnasaythatIdon'tknowalready" but blurs it all wierd like as if
you were hearing it on hallucinogens.
yea... I'm a beatsie nerd...novice. It's my guilty pleasure. sshhhhhhh...

Yeah I remember hearing that, Mike D catches on quite quickly though cos he says the 'in side the space' line with MCA, and fair play to Adrock for not going into his 'Now let me drop a verse...' line.

I think they're all focused live from what I've seen and heard, if anything i think MCA is on top of his game pretty much all of the time. I mean I know it was a TV appearence so it doesn't count as a live show, but the An Open Letter performance in Rome...well to me Yauch seemed so precise.

Interestingly enough, did you (shazam_21 or anyone else) spot MMM fucking up in Time to Get Ill...it's nothing major but unless I heard incorretly he messes up the beat on the chorus a few times.

I also think it's great how everythings live, from the scratching/beats being played ect to the vocals...so many other hip hop stars of today literally rhyme over backing vocals the whole way through shows while the DJ just stand there nodding his head...it's fucking shit!

i heard mca mess up "so what'cha want" a couple of times. during the weenie roast and the 1st NYAV show.

I've heard him drop the beat for the chorus too early before, at SECC '99, then took it off so you just heard one loud base drum, then nothing else!

You're right bout other hip-hoppers, theres not many that cut it all up live! Roots, J5 De La Soul spring to mind

Yeah mate J5 played at Reading last year and they were incredible live. I'd heard a few tunes like 'Concrete Schoolyard' but hadn't really heard any of their stuff in full, and it was just song after song of quality hip hop.

Just like the Beasties!

And Wints I was referring to the MEN show...I only heard it when it was on the radio, but I'm pretty sure the beat on the chorus was right out of timing with the boys, and I think he was sort of scrathing it up to try and get it right but it still kept coming in at strange spots!

what'ca want' at the NYAV show MCA does mess up, so what it makes it more fun to watch!! also the same show (NYAV) MCA in intergalatic!! but I must say Ad-Rock (check the way i wrote adrock!!--as mentioned about his spelling before), he always has his shit togther on stage!!!

As for Mike D??##!!!.....but he always covers himself, he's just so clever!! at the ICA gig May 2004 I remember him laughing through Root down & forgetting his lines but, Ad-rock is just so sharp. Can you remember that UK competition winners!!

About the MEN 'Time to get Ill' performance; I think BBC played the LTI version underneath the live audio. For what reason, I do not know, and it sounds horrible but I don't think it's MMM's fault. It's just something in the rebroadcast.

I agree with you, Timmie. It would be boring if the song performances were always perfect. In fact, I would say the screw ups and their screwing around on stage are what make a show great and memorable.

and i agree with you agreeing with Timmie, Miramanee! if i wanted a show without somethin' silly goin' on with forgetting lines and such i would just listen to the cd.

- oh, and i have swallowed a cough drop on accident, but it was actually kinda soothing cuz my throat was all itchy. i kinda freaked at first but i just popped another one in my mouth... yeah, off topic, sorry.

back to the subject, mca said a line twice at this one show. he went "from the family tree of old school hip hop, kick off your shoes and relax your socks, from the family tree of old school hip hop, kick off your shoes and relax your socks" - i thought my cd skipped. but mca was the one doing the skippin'.

Yeah that'd make sense...although I had no idea the BBC tocuh up their live recordings, it doesn't seem like the best idea, especially if that is the case with Time To Get Ill. The timing's just off. I do still think though MMM is desperately trying to scrath his way through it so I'm not to sure, but you're probably right.

By the way I love MMM, so (and it may sound like I am) I'm not like looking for reasons to slag him off, I just thought that the chrous on TTGI was a little off. Otherwise a superb DJ!

lets face it, wot he does certainly aint easy! The beasties fuck up their lyrics, so he can fuck up his beats, so what? it makes good entertainmemt for us sad spotters!

I don't think the BBC "touched up" the live recording. I think that during Time To Get Ill MMM was just being creative. He scratched his way through it.

Yeah, I love MMM but it was more of an attempt to scratch through it. It doesn't really bother me that much, but he did fuck it up...again if any other dj tried to do what he does...well i don't think theres any who could pull it off half as good. as this was a thread about mca repeating the same verse i just thought it was relevant to mention something else that happened at the same show.

as for the bbc touching up live recordings, iddin;t suggest they did, i was just responding to what someone else said, that would have explained what happened.

still that show was amazing!
