those who went to the melbourne show...

i was looking @ beastiemania at the setlists and i noticed that melbourne had 27 songs (including nettys girl which was only 1 line and MMM's scratching) and i couldn't find another gig lately that had more than 24, even shows @ MSG, or anywhere in fact...

my question: for those of you who went and have seen a few beasties shows was that the best? and why do you think they played extra songs? where the 3 just really enjoying themselves?? for me being the 2nd time i saw them (the 1st being only 3 days beforehand) it's hard for me to judge, but a bigger setlist to me says that it was a really really good show...

I've seen a lot of shows, and this was definitely up there as one of the best I've seen. I thought the Horden show a few days earlier was the tightest I've seen on this tour, but this beat that show by a long way in my eyes.

They were having a lot of fun from planning out the intro video through to the actual set, so I guess that's why they decided to include extras etc.

One of the reason they throw some extras was that Melborne is minton's hometown, wasn't it?

I'm really amazed that every show started with different intro video.
And also amazed they don't run out of ideas...does Yauch direct the videos??

Minton promised me several months ago that I would get my best show in Melbourne. I relied on his promise and bought my Festival Hall ticket before I was sure I could even take off of work, muchless get travel arrangements together. The Beastie Boys had to pull this off for Minton. Unless there's a miracle it will be my last show for a long, long time.

I agree with Minton. I thought Sydney couldn't have been better. I couldn't believe how much energy the Beasties had when it was so unbelievably hot and humid.

When I was waiting outside in Melbourne, I worried the crowd might suck on account of all the rain, but the crowd was great. Even when they didn't know everything they were really into the tunes. And it's such a weird space for a concert, I couldn't believe the band could really reach those people in the "family" seats on the side, but they seemed to be on their feet the whole time too. So Melbourne/Festival Hall even beat NYC for me which I didn't think was possible. I think that the Beasties were more funny and had more chit chat, Mike's dance, but also a perfect flow. The intro was the funniest, and the basketball challenge was a hoot. The only thing that could have made it better was a dog show. :)

I seriously walked 45 minutes back to my hotel in apparently record rainfall, past a street the cops had closed on account of standing water, and was humming and singing the whole way. That's how good it was.

And Mike did the line from Netty's Girl more than once, if memory serves, and he said another part of it under his breath but I heard it. For the record.

sydney was a great show, like minton said, but they just seemed to be having so much fun in melbourne. the set list was definately better, and there was much more banter inbetween songs. i was up in the seats, so it was kinda different for me. it would have been so good on the dancefloor
