Hi,

Can anyone help me with this? I have been surprised lately that Channel 4 (UK) have been using Hey Ladies and Sabotage as the music bed for on air promos they are doing. In particular Channel 4 have been pumping out Hey Ladies to promote the opening episode of JOEY. This surely has to be incorrect??? Since when did the B Boys let their music be used in advertising????

It's not called advertising per se. What I know when someone's music is used on TV shows as background they (TV) have to pay royalties just as when music is played on radio. In Sweden they (different TV and radio shows) use loads of Beastie-music in the background, especially the instrumentals.

I've heard some Beastie tunes used on motoring program Top Gear recently.

That is a very hard question to answerr! Probably CheckYour Head then Pauls Boutique.

I understand about teh royalty thing and I understand it is a promo not exactly advertising, however I would have thought that the B-Boys would have had a say on this... Unless their publishing company hasd final say.. I was very dissapointed to hear theor music on a promo...It is so un B Boy!

I think it's quite cool, especially the Hey Ladies on the Joey adverts.

maybe so but still very dissapointing... After all MCA's raps about never appearing in advertisements....

Just shocked...Thats all!

then what is it????

A promo??? Maybe that is what it is 'called' but the channel are still using the song to get people to actually watch Joey.

To me that is advertising
