I posted this link in another thread about Shadrach. But it probably belongs here too. It was written in November of 1995
Enjoy.

thanks for the link. yeah its been up here before but personally i think its a load of bollocks. I wonder if the author actually knows that the song was made while the lads were doin whippets!

Jeez, that is quite deep! Thanks for the link Laver. I bookmarked the site so maybe I can have the attention span at a latter date to read through some of the others. Reading about their lyrics makes me feel like such a cultural degenerate sometimes.
It makes me wonder exactly how much thought really goes into forming their lyrics or if they're just pullin random shit outta the air, like movies they've seen and places they've been at the time and what not. Or did/do they have advisors, like pop culture agents that scout material for them? Hmmmm......... I swear the Beastie Boys are super human databases of miscellaneous knowledge. (lb)

Yeah, I've thought the same thing for a while. In so many of their songs there are just so many mind-boggling references. Whenever I get a chance I google some of them and then it just adds a completely new dimension to the song once I find out who or what a certain reference is. They are so clever :p

i started a thread like this before, but nobody wanted to talk about it :(
i guess i didn't ask the right questions...
i also admire their culture/pop references but don't have the chance to go on line so much to do the 'googling'
some day i'll prolly understand everything they're saying!

I believe they also have a lot of "inside jokes" in their lyrics.

of course, but they even explain it sooner or later or it doesn't matter all that much
my bigger problem are people references- i just figured out who E.F. Hutton is today
and i still don't know half of the slang and other meanings from HN

Hey ChrisCo, you ought to check out beastiemania.com. They have song spotlights that discuss the samples and references. Good stuff. (y)
