Hey, is it possible to add an effect to a wave file that makes it sound like a vinyl slowing down? If so can someone explain how to do it please, or suggest another way or piece of software that will create this effect?

Try using a turntable and some vinyl. Play it... and then turn the power off.
AMAZING!

The way I do it is by automating the master track pitch control.
Not sure what software you are using, but I'm using FL Studio... where it has a master volume fader (I'm sure you know what that does). Then next to it lies a master pitch fader... sliding this baby right down will cause all tracks playing to play at a very low pitch but keeping in tempo... so the result is like listening to someone talk in slow motion. And of course the opposite will cause chip n dale talk effect.
Anyway back to the effect. Turning the master pitch right down will give the effect of a slow playing record. You can use the master volume fader along with the master pitch to create a convincing quick vinyl record stop, as if you stopped the disc by hand.
I did this effect on a remix I did of Shake Your Rump which you can hear at my site at www.hoolak.com/landos_dad (http://www.hoolak.com/landos_dad) - the track is the bottom one in the list and the effect can be heard very quickly at exactly 2 minutes.
Hope this helps.
If not... cowabunga.
[EDIT] oops just read that ur using Soundforge. Then for that see if you can automate the pitch over time.

you can use the bender effect on sound forge to get what you want.
my SF has been acting a little strange lately; whenver i save a sample it automatically adds a fraction of silence at the head and tail, thereby messing up the loop. whenver i cut it and re-save or save as, or copy and paste and save in a new document, the same thign happens... any tips/help??? (n)

Are you saving as mp3 or wav?

Where is the bender effect? Do you mean pitch bend?

I had the same problem when saving mp3's, then my Sound Forge said I needed to pay for an mp3 plug in

yes that happens when u save as mp3s in some programs... try using wavs, way better quality playback anyways.

Truth is, save any audio to mp3 and you will get a milli second gap at the start and end. I think it's due to somekind of data header or something.
With mp3 samples or loops, I tend to load them up in a audio editor (Soundforge, Audition etc), trim the silence away and save as a wav file.

Yeah. In SF, go to Effects-Pitch-Bend and play around with it. Below is an example.

If you have a VST compatible sequencer/audio editor host (which I know Soundforge and Acid are) then you might want to give this free VST plugin > Turntablist Pro (http://www.bioroid.com/plugins.html)
It allows you to drop wav files into it and manipulate it as if you were scratching some vinyl. Maybe a little tricky at first to figure out, but it can come up with some great results.

^^^ ha ha...I used a text-to-speech thing to do a remix of Paul Revere cos I couldn't get the acapella and it sounded like Stephen Hawkings dropping rhymes. Had to do it 1 line at a time and save as wav files then adjust the speed in Acid when layering with the beats.
Took about a week and then I went and corrupted the end file. Still have part of it somewhere.....
That was my wierdest remix
