... Before political pressure was put on him to change his mind. Apparently. Possibly... Avoiding the spin and distortions that accompany such a thing.

New allegations have surfaced today about the Attorney General's legal advice on which we went to war with Iraq. The government has only ever published a summary of his advice. We'll be talking to Professor Sands, author of "Lawless World: America and Making and Breaking of Global Rules", about the basis of his allegations and looking at the pressure that is still being applied to the Government for full public disclosure of the legal advice.

ex-foreign secretary Robin Cook says all the advice should now be published.

He said the claims suggested Parliament had only received a precis of Lord Goldsmith's second opinion - and that it was actually drafted in No 10.

This would be wrong even if Lord Goldsmith had signed the statement, Mr Cook said, because the attorney general's advice should be an "independent legal opinion", not subject to "political negotiation of this kind".
