remarkable, especially the part about them raising his bond at the end because prosecutors requested it. why would they do that?

I'd like to read the story to see what he actually wrote.

If he really did write about zombies and a generic high school, I hope he is released and eats his grandparents brains.

On Thursday, a judge raised Poole's bond from one to five thousand dollars after prosecutors requested it, citing the seriousness of the charge

I'm glad all the short stories in my journal are about brutally raping unamed women.

It does on the face of it sound ridiculous, and I am inclined to believe the kid. But, it's hard to know without seeing the writing what the real story is.

I do find it perplexing that the kid's grandparents went directly to the police, and not talked to the kid himself first.

Also, how can something be 'making a threat' if it's in a private journal? Wouldn't you actually have to put it out there for an intended audience for it to be a threat? Some who knows more about legalish stuff is going to have to clarify that for me.

Well, it would be the same as thinking about it I think. And if it's in writing then I would expect there to be actual threats, and not "threathing" words. Might aswell start arresting people for Think Crimes.

i was gonna say something about that, but i bit my tongue...i was thinking it though

i guess you can make a threat in a private journal, like if you write "tuesday i'm going to kill john smith, i really mean it". although he has no idea, he's certainly being threatened.

it doesn't sound like he was naming names or being specific though. and even if he was, they were zombies! you have to kill zombies, that's the rule

They probably did, only the school district had figured out D&D wasn't a threat by then...

I would have agree with Ms. Peachy and ask why the grandparents didn't ask the kid a/b the journal before involving the police. So far we only have one side of the story.

There are three sides to every story: Your way, their way, and the truth.

nah, you'll be ok, just don't set it in a high school. make it a police station or something instead

resident evil 2 (the game) was set in a police station (among other places). you murdered legions upon legions of zombie cops. i had no hesitation about it, they were trying to eat my brains for god's sake

But I live in Oklahoma. I could probably only get away with it if the zombies ate a bunch of lesbians. Actually, I'd probably still get arrested, just for different reasons.

I think may have infringed on the rights held by the zombies with your shoot first, ask questions later attitude, after all they are citizens. :D

we already do; they're called hate crimes. sure, there's an actual crime involved, but it's enhanced based on the alleged motivation (i.e. thoughts) of the defendant.

you should be ok, just make sure you've clearly defined "eating"

is it a hate crime if i kill a zombie? i really am prejudiced against them, i'm going to be open about it. they just shuffle around the streets all day, looking for brains to eat, not contributing a jot to society. get a job already!

i'm more concerned about whether you can be charged with murder for killing something that's already dead.

You could argue self defense. I mean, these things were trying to devour your flesh! You had to shoot to save yourself.

The kid in question may have a strong vocabulary (or the use of a good thesaurus) and used words that the police officers or the grandparents were not familiar with.

Education has sealed his fate.

Nah, if I am going to flee, I'm just gonna leave the country. People like us can do alot more in a place like this than we could in an already liberal area.

http://www.theregister.com/2005/03/08/high_school_zombie_threat/

An 18-year-old US student is today behind bars after police uncovered his plot to raise a zombie army and attack his high school. The wannabe Papa Doc Duvalier's chilling plan was uncovered after the youth's grandparents discovered his written proposal for the outrage in Winchester, Kentucky, lex18.com reports.

Mercifully, William Poole was cuffed before he could execute his macabre scheme. He faces a second-degree felony terrorist threatening charge after investigators discovered "materials at Poole's home that outline possible acts of violence aimed at students, teachers, and police".

Naturally, the fledgling Baron Samedi has claimed that the writings were nothing more than a short story he penned for his English class. He said: "My story is based on fiction. It's a fake story. I made it up. I've been working on one of my short stories, [and] the short story they found was about zombies. Yes, it did say a high school. It was about a high school over ran by zombies."

"It didn't mention nobody who lives in Clark County, didn't mention [George Rogers Clark High School], didn't mention no principal or cops, nothing. Half the people at high school know me. They know I'm not that stupid, that crazy."

Despite his protestations, the authorities have wisely decided to cage the miscreant youth. Winchester Police detective Steven Caudill noted: "Anytime you make any threat or possess matter involving a school or function it's a felony in the state of Kentucky."

Accordingly, a judge last week reflected the seriousness of threatening your high school with annihilation at the hands of the undead by raising Poole's bond from one to five thousand dollars at the request of prosecutors. He is currently reflecting on his folly in the Clark County Detention Center. ®
