What is the perfect rock song?
Last night I'm in my car driving through the old nieghborhood when all of a sudden the radio goes satanic and blasts out the Rolling Stones "Jumpin' Jack Flash".
It has all the elements I'm looking for in a template perfect rock song.
Spontaneous; Written by 2 guys who've been up all night and were spooked by the gardeners footsteps outside...Kieth told Mick it was Jack Flash, actually his name was Jack Dyer. very spontaneous. Bill Wyman wrote most of this, including the main riff.
Length; Short
Lyrics; Badass, (I was born in a cross-fire hurricane-I was raised by a toothless, bearded hag) those do perfect.
Music: Not candy-assed
Staying Power; Jumpin' Jack Flash has this in spades.
So this is the song that I use as a criteria for the perfect rock song. I know of a hundred others that fit this category, but this one clicks the best in my mind.
What is your perfect rock song?

'Can't You Hear Me Knockin' by The Stones, 'The Ocean' by Zeppelin or 'You Really Got Me' by The Kinks.

This is not my final answer because it's too cheesy and its not cool, but the other day I heard Styx's Renegade on the radio. And no matter what you think of corporate rock in general or Styx in particular, that's just a perfect rock single. You can't hear it without turning up the volume. And you can't keep your head still once it starts rocking out.
It's usually good when a song has a slower or quieter part at the beginning before it starts rocking out. That's something I've noticed.
There's also something about Radar Love -- another song I would never seek out but when it's on the radio, I hate myself for turning up the volume.
Yeahwho, how do you know that about Bill Wyman? I hate him and would prefer to think he's just one lucky bastard. :D

It is vague, but I'm going by songfacts (http://www.songfacts.com/detail.lasso?id=506) website. Any clarification would be appreciated. I kind of doubt he was the lyrics guy, Mick & Kieth have their DNA all over those lines.

Okay, know NOTHING about the Beastie Boys, but I know A TON about the Rolling Stones because I was obsessed in my youth. I'm going to ponder about this Bill Wyman thing.
Bad movie / good scene. Didn't Michael Keaton rock out to the live version of Jumping Jack Flash (from Get Yer Ya Yas Out) in the movie where he and Fonzie are pimps?
I'm not discussing the Whoopie Goldberg movie.
And I prefer the Stones to the Beatles, but what about Revolution?

Rage Against the Machine - Killing In the Name Of
its loud, and has the best guitar Ive ever heard in a song before. De La Rocha was awesome, complimenting that already awesome guitar.
Purple Haze by Jimi Hendrix was a close second actually.

If we're talking Zeppelin, it's got to be In The Evening. Or In My Time of Dying. Or possibly Nobody's Fault But Mine.
Right, I'm gonna go listen to Zepp now.

I'd go for Zeppelin's "Black Dog" or GnR's "Rocket Queen." Lust, desire, etc. all in one soothing package.

I've had a lot of favorites over the years, but that's currently my favorite Zeppelin song.
I have a peculiar fondness for Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap by AC/DC even though it's not really a perfect song.

If it's AC/DC we're talking about, "Beating Around the Bush" certainly takes the cake.

I know the Ramones are more "punk rock" than "rock", but the simplicity and pure rock out value of their music means that I'm going to have to say "I wanna be sedated" is the perfect rock song. Closely followed by Led Zeppelin's "Black Dog" and Jimi Hendrix's "Foxy Lady".
Ohh and AC/DC's back in black is an obvious one too

Jumpin' Jack Flash . . . Bill Wyman wrote most of this, including the main riff.
I was skeptical, but in his pathetic book, Stone Alone, Bill Wyman says that the "crucial riff" was his, that the band all worked on the song and Mick wrote the lyrics, but his riff was the backbone. He says Keith has admitted this in interviews. He complains that he and Charlie and Brian all contributed to songs but that Charlie and Brian would never join him in standing up to Keith and Mick.
I used to love Back in Black but now that it's a theme on the Daily Show it lost its appeal. I prefer earlier AC/DC anyway. :)

It's all Micks the second he shouts out.......1......2, Wyman is out of the equation after that. Charlie's no dummy, just 'cause he plays the drummy. ;)
